I love the Symbaroum setting. Thank you so much for the insight, Geek Gamers, Ma'am.
I don't GM D&D 5e but i think it's usable for Shadow of The Demon Lord which i prefer more.

I do think it could be used/ported elsewhere though I don’t know Demon Lord at all, you’re no doubt right!

I grabbed this because I love the setting but really dislike YZE, so it was a perfect fit, despite it being 5e. It has some very cool flavor!

Symbaroum doesn’t use YZE, it uses a d20 roll-under system.

@@juliochavez1109 I did not know that! Since it's Fria Ligan I assumed they used their YZE. Thanks!

@@alejotm000 it was made by a company called Järnringen (the iron ring), that later merged with Free League (i think they were friends, the scene in sweden is small). But i still dont consider it a true free league game. its mostly the same people that still work on that game that was in development way before they became part of fria ligan. Its been in the works for several decades and has nothing to do with the year zero system. :D
They way i see it, Symbaroum becoming part of free league was a good choice, because of the exposure. But it still looks like they are doing their own thing. And the game was already out when they joined i believe. Järnringens other game, Coriolis , IS year zero engine - but maybe it became finalized after the merger. Im not sure.
But i do much enjoy that Symbaroum is its own thing. I often feel that Free League games can feel a bit to much from the "conveyer belt". Like a template with different skins to a certain degree, alot of the same rules not just YZE. I feel that the Free League catalogue is broad (but maybe a bit shallow?) , but Symbaroum is DEEP with all the books, lore and specific rules. Those i believe will keep coming to "Ruins" (already out for the base game, that is neither 5e or YZE)

ok... i'm just gonna go and ask here...
i'm very interested in playing Symbaroum and Ruins of Symbaroum 5e, but i can't decide which to choose...
    I play some DnD (sparsely)
which is easier and requires less purchases?
which is more rewarding for very small group? (1v1)

I personally preferred Symbaroum but I am not the one to answer … if your group is just you and another why not look at the rules online to the extent you can & decide that wsg

Thanks a lot, this is a great review! Is it called "Ruins Of" Symbaroum just to differentiate it as the 5e version of Symbaroum?

I know this isn't the most proper way of asking/reaching out but it's a burning question I've been having so I only felt right to ask here. So as a new player to TTRPG's and Solo being my preference I've been wanting to use the 3 core books of Ad&d 1e with Trilemma compendium vol 1, fever dreaming marilenko, Deep carbon observatory and another module I can't think of as of now to make a solo campaign. Is this something I can do? I've asked around but never got a concrete answer but I REALLY want too learn and use Ad&d 1e I've used OSE but don't really like it so is this something you could see being done? I know none of them are settings though necessarily

I'm not Geek Gamers but i will help answering your question.
Sure you can. AD&D 1E has great and comprehensive rules but i only have Trilemma Compendium from you list.
You can use the AD&D 1E rulebooks as the adventure generators and when our PCs have to delve and visit a place you can randomize which place of interest do they encounter using the Trilemma.
To spice things up and surprise ourselves.. we can randomize the number and kind of monsters and NPCs on that site too.
What do you think, Yahweh? What do you think guys, Geek Gamers, fellow fans?

I have a couple of board games coming up. I am glad you like the way I treat them. I am always on the lookout for games to treat, but sometimes it is challenging to find something that hasn’t been over done or where I can provide what I think is a unique take on it.

It’s an RPG revival of sorts with the short rule sets and RPG zones and OSR movement. Lots of creativity happening... more so than I see on board games these days where so much seems like just more of the same
