He used straws sometimes to make the strokes more evident and he most of the times he used old of his paintings to paint on top,he was painting very fast not to loose that light and he was always looking for that special lighting (like in Japan). He is brilliant, self-taught and committed to his journey
Once the initial brown background, drawing and blocking-in is done, it’s about layering colour with either texture (colour, direction of and impression of brush strokes) lines or blending to define the edges, with occasional redefining shapes, drawing and blocking-in. Also the more you layer the lighter colours the better perspective is what I got from this technique.
Hello, I like Van Gogh and it's a pleasure to see how you paint. As I'm looking for a painter, I'd be interested to know if you use a medium for plain air painting and if so, which one. Thanks for your reply.
i have an observation to make about the sky. i personally would have worked on the sky more, about its tormented aspect. i don't know, it's just a suggestion. in any case, well done, very pleasant to watch.
Hi! I'm watching this video one year after posting but I hope you will check my message. I have to do a Van Gogh painting and it would be really nice if I could use the oil technique but I haven't try it so I need some suggets. How many time takes you to do this work? Have you waited after every step to make the color dry or it's not necessary in this "fast application" technique? Are the colors you used took directly from the tube or mixed with some medium? I heard that use linseed oil makes it difficult to work on many layers (velature) but do you think in this kind of painting could work better? In the video seems like you have mixed color without anything is it real? Do you use turpentine ore something like that for the canvas color, mixing or washing the brush? Just asking to know what may I need to buy to start working like you, love it!
Hi, glad you like my video. I think it took me about an hour to finish this painting. it's done in wet in wet technique so, I didn't wait for layers to dry. You have to use fat over lean or thick over thin technique. so you can start with paint directly from the tube with thin layer. don't go paint over paint at the beginning. you can see I have done that on the sky part at the start of the painting. put paint separately one next to the other. than when you are building up your painting start applying more paint and you can start using a bit of linseed oil (that's what I do). yes it can still mix a bit with underlayer but you can get away with it, just apply thicker paint. try imagine how Van Gogh painted (fast, confident and with thick paint). try avoiding mixing different colors on canvas and making muddy colors. get your edges visible and with good contrast. hope this txt helps a bit cheers
Wonderful work! Thanks for sharing this awesome video! I’ve always wanted to know how to paint like Van Gogh and you seem to have captured his technique and process quite well. Well done !
Well done. And I'm glad you played Moonlight Sonata with the panting. I've often associated it with some of van Gogh's paintings but no this one.. I learned some tings from watching you paint, Thank you,
fully agree, I have always listened to classical when I need to get things done or doing anything creative...actually it seems like all the time I play it. hahahaha
Love your channel ! It nice to see how you start your paintings and the end the result. Out of curiosity what paints do you use ? Brilliant video , please keep posting more 🙂
best van gogh style video of seen, you’re a great painter for sure, also very satisfying video format, the painting angle is nice and also the intro 💆♀️
I'm glad you like my channel. I try to present my work in the best and clearest way possible. I hope you will look at my other tutorials as well. cheers 👨🎨😊
love what you do, however i would have chosen a somewhat happier music. i know van gogh didn't have a happy life, but the marche funebre is too lugubrious for me...
thank you,I am glad you like it. I usually prep the canvas with some earthy color mixture mixed with some linseed oil (I paint when it's dry on touch.) but this time i didn't prep the canvas. this is just a regular canvas surface what you get when you buy a canvas.
hello! what did you use to prep the canvas and what material did you use to thin the oil paints out? I’m new to oil painting and this video is very useful to me, thank you!
read the other comments, esp. the ones when Samir replies. Friendly suggestion, is to check other comments prior to asking, a lot of times your answer may be there, more over, get other useful info. This goes for anything on YT, sadly people dont read enough of the comments and great info is there. Sidenote, Most Creators will only answer questions right after posting up to 24-48 hours after. It helps with the Algo. Typically this far after posting, most dont get areply. Just some hints and findings I have seen and/or heard/do.
Bonjour.
What brushes did you used? Because I'm learning and I don't know what type of brushes to use when painting a Van Gogh style or Monet's style, so I would appreciate to know what to use. Great video and wonderful painting btw.
YOU *ALL* MISS THE POINT A COUNTRY MILE, WHAT I LEARNED FROM THE VIDEO WAS THAT VAN GOGH'S SECRET WAS THAT HE LISTENED TO FUNERAL MUSIC WHILST HE FLUNG PAINT AT THE CANVAS - NEXT TIME, CHILDREN, PAY ATTENTION - LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS - GOOD VIDEO, I ENJOYED WATCHING YOU PAINT, BUT PLEASE, NEXT TIME PLAY SOME STEVIE RAY VAUGHN OR SOMETHING - LOL!!!!!!!
not even close. there is a huge misunderstanding here. he is sweep,ng the brush on the canvas while in Van Gogh techinque, there are brush strokes with thick paint on the canvas.
Thanks. The one in the Met, this one, is said to have been painted from life, but there are solutions to problems Van Gogh would never employ, and unresolved areas that are inexplicable. in the sky especially. That Prussian blue mountain dead center is awkward. And the yellows appear ocher, not chrome. Many things, such as the mountains, and oddly formed. What do you think?

I am not in love with acrylics, they don't give you freedom like oils. so I think it is harder to get the same result as this in my video.
cheers
@@PaintingWithSamir wow thank you very much for your immediate answer! I’m gonna try it! 😁

Do you know how to paint the big plane trees by Vincent von Gogh, I want to learn it for my project

what kind of color do you have as a base?
Did you use medium or paint thinner to layer the colors?
I use linseed oil, just dip the brush from time to time

This is not how Vincent painted. Lots of things wrong here but he didn’t tint his canvas and he didn’t use medium.
You "copied" a forgery. Try the one in the UK.
