Beau has an incredible memory for that. I have always called him a "llama dictionary". I, on the other hand" can't even remember all the names of last year's babies yet. I'm still studying them with a flip chart 🤣 Thanks for watching, Kirstin
What a great looking crew of kids. I can see a project for 4 11 Grand. Your wife did a great job of explaining your process and how to apply pressure. Master Jedi Trainer.
Thank you for, yet another, great episode! At what age do you generally not call them cria anymore? And how is cria training, in your experience, different from training with older llamas?
They are technically "weanlings" once you take them from mom, then once they hit one year old they are yearlings. Young llamas learn more quickly, and are easier to manage because they don't have the body weight to throw you around, if they get nervous. They also learn a life long respect for humans when they are young, that can be very difficult to replicate if you break them when they are older. Older llamas, If trained from a young age, are very easy to train to do new things. They trust you and most llamas love to learn new things and go new places. They love the adventure. Thanks for the questions friend!
Hey kids, IMO y'all should give 1 of your male lamas the "Dandy Randy" name. Seeing as how Marcus is taken already. Excellent vids, keep up the great work.
We just picked up a 5-month old male llama today! Is it too early to work with him everyday? My goal is to have him halter trained, and safe to trim/sheer as required as he grows up with our goat herd. Thanks!
That was fantastic!! I'm going to try and not sound too dumb. LOL!! Compared to other domesticated large animals (horses, mules especially), is it easier to train Llamas? How do their minds work? I know it's a vague question and every Llama had it's own personality, but I don't know how else to ask.
Llamas are very smart. They l learn things very quickly, as long as their directions are clear. With that said, they also learn bad habits quickly... 😆. I think training llamas is similar to training most other species. Although my experience with other animals is limited, so I could not say accurately.
Remarkable you guys know all these guys names and all the others, plus bloodlines. Great looking group of young ones!
