His main influences are the compositions of SD Burman, Himangshu Dutta, Rabindranath Tagore ( in several ways , especially the way he has used Kirtan in his compositions, and the way Rabindranath creates problems and negotiates and finds elegant solutions for them in his compositions), DL Roy, Dilip Kumar Roy, Nazrul, Nachiketa Ghosh, Robin Chattopadhyay, Sudhirlal Chakraborty, Aloknath De, Jnan Prakash Ghosh, Anupam Ghatak, OP Nayyar, Pankaj Kumar Mullick ( the compositions of Mahisasur Mardini have to be mentioned) and several of the "Ramyageeti" compositions, Padabali Kirtan and many others . Kabir Suman has further chiselled and modernised the modern singing pronunciation of Hemanta Mukhopadhyay in his singing and amalgamated that with the singing style of Shyamal Mitra.

There are only three more songs in Kabir Suman's entire oeuvre which are translations of Dylan , Biday Porichita and Gaanola and Ami Jaake Bhalobashi. Just three among more than five hundred. What about the rest???? ( how is Dylan even remotely related to them?) ........Palligeeti, Geet Gobinda, Hindustani classical ragas, in addition to the influences I mentioned in the previous comment and many others

I recently discovered Anjan Dutta and KS together. Not sure why I couldn't find wow-factor in KS songs while Anjan Dutta ranges from every genre.
Suman is original, controversial, straight forward. Whereas Anjan is inspired, influenced. Both are romantic and has a special place in our heart.
