The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the premier late night talk show on CBS, airing at 11:35pm EST, streaming online via CBS All Access, and delivered to the International Space Station on a USB drive taped to a weather balloon. Every night, viewers can expect: Comedy, humor, funny moments, witty interviews, celebrities, famous people, movie stars, bits, humorous celebrities doing bits, funny celebs, big group photos of every star from Hollywood, even the reclusive ones, plus also jokes.
It's refreshing when Al doesn't demonize the other side, and discusses interactions with them as colleagues and not as enemies.
So agree! I just learned something from him. Disarm difficult people at work by joking with them and taking them out for a meal.
I also learned that in his book, Al Franken: Giant of the Senate, he talks about the importance of level-headed leadership!

every senator does this... seriously.
I think senators are, usually, pretty civil with one another. It's just that all we hear about them is when policy is brought up and naturally they land on two opposing sides.
That humorless senator impression has me in tears, holy god. Politics haven't dulled this man, they have honed him.
That's because we all know people like that congressman.
I miss Al in the Senate! His unique blend of satire, humor and intellect is what we need during these tumultuous and challenging times.
He should have refused to resign
@@1223steffen If Franken didn't do anything wrong, why did he resign? When the going got tough, Al threw in the towel. He IS an intelligent person and although I'm from the other side of the aisle, I think he was an articulate and dedicated Senator. However, in this era, it was just too easy to flush him away.

The saddest part of his ouster is that no one stepped up to be a voice for the Democrats in the Senate.

@@valentinelove8029 I still don't know why this is such a thing, here. Maybe it's just because farming is so prevalent. But, I still see it more here than other agricultural heavy states that I've been to.

He was trying to do the honorable thing, unlike the republican (Roy Moore) that sexual deviant that was in the spotlight around the same time as Al Franken's so-called "transgression". What Al Franken did wasn't nearly as disgusting as Roy Moore, and yet Moore fought tooth and nail to stay in office, despite the fact that he preyed on underage girls. There was no comparison between the allegations of the two of them. I so wish that Al Franken hadn't resigned.
@@Turtleproof He did what he thought was best for the country and the party at that moment. Kirsten Gillibrand made the calculation that it was worth it to throw one of the strongest progressive voices in the senate under the bus so that they could fill a senate seat in Alabama with a Joe Manchin-esque Democrat for two years. I am relieved Joe Biden didn't pick her for VP. I don't think I could have cast a vote for her after throwing MY senator under the bus. I hope she gets primaried.

First time I ever saw Al Franken was on Saturday Night Live, where he played a psychiatrist who was trying to help Al Gore through his loss to Bush. Absolutely hysterical! He really should get back into politics. The USA needs him!

I'm a democrat and huge fan of Franken from SNL but he was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. We need to contextualize things and not summarize things without painting the entire picture.

I'm surprised that he didn't mention Sen. McCain of AZ. That guy was absolutely hilarious. He had an opening monologue on SNL that was well timed & uproariously funny. So much so he was invited back.

People don't realize that satirists are very intelligent people. They walk a fine line between being liked and hated and being funny versus alarming. To dum-dums he's just a comedian, but in reality he's the perfect type of person to be in politics. Someone who recognizes the seriousness of politics, while appreciating the humorous and absurdity of it.
It's hard to make a comedian legit-laugh, but Franken got Colbert here. Well done.

I'm heartened to learn that, according to Senator Franken, there are some Republican senators who have a sense of humor. It's enlightening to see the connection between the lack of a sense of humor, and the nearness a conservative is to the extreme right side of the flat earth they sincerely believe they live on.

Just got through listening to the audio version of Al's new book, which he narrates. Loved it!
I would love to visit the alternate reality in which Al avoided making the stupid mistakes that tanked his political career. He seemed so brilliant as a politician and really appeared to be in it for the right reasons. I wonder how much further he could have gone.
