JYP's overseas auditions are really sketchy. I've been to one. It was held at like an old warehouse/factory and the only thing that made it legit was the amount of people who came to the auditions. If there were less people it would be even more sketchy. I would say SM has the most professional legit auditions because they actually rent out an auditorium or a whole building floor with enough chairs and room to seat everyone coming to audition and they hand out cute little booklets with all their groups and artist pictures.

In the past, before k-pop became this big, they wouldn't care if you can't dance or sing. But, nowadays, every kid auditioning is almost an expert in at least one category, they spent years practicing just to audition. It's really amazing to see how much things changed.
That's kind of true but most visuals are casted this way actually. Walking down the street and scouters see a pretty face they get a business card.

Funny thing or interesting enough, Nickhun's recruitment story is famous throughout the San Gabriel Valley and Rancho Cucamonga in the Asian American community. Everyone is so proud of him.
In fact, there are rumors that korean recruiter are everywhere and go to our high school sport games.

Tbh constantly hear about kpop street casters doing this with todays idols. When kids say no they continue to follow them around for a while until the kids give in. Its so normalised nobody gives weird reactions but you cant pull this sht on kids in other countries. Mad creepy

I really love that Nichkhun shared this story. I didn't even know he was from Rancho Cucamonga bc if you live in SoCal but outside of LA, you just say you live in LA so you don't have to explain to ppl where you actually live. And being almost the same age as Nichkhun and also living in SoCal, I can imagine his life before he became a trainee. This was absolutely interesting though, definitely not your typical audition story that you normally hear from idols. Man, I feel like a boomer with Nichkhun talking about life all those years ago. Also, props to Eric Nam. He is so personable and I also enjoy watching him interview, he really knows how to engage with the people he's interviewing.
Eyy, Nickhun! Not expecting this. We're now getting into the generation of idols when I started listening to Korean music. Also I think the first Thai idol in Kpop.
Not just first Thai, Nichkhun was the first foreign Kpop idol to debut in Korea. He literally opened the gateway for all the other foreign kpop idols today.
@@seputehsalju i thought that the first foreign idol was hangeng from super junior (2005)? so much so that SM didn't even know about the laws and hangeng had to wear a mask while performing bc of visa issues. as a foreigner, he could only perform on certain channels and was at risk of getting fined/kicked out of korea. (not to knock nichkhun's contributions!)
@@esvete844 True. I forgot about Han Geng lol. He WAS the first foreign idol. And had to go through a lot just to perform with SuJu. Although later on he was with SuJu-M more, right? Still Han Geng was the OG. But to be fair, after Nichkhun debuted the KPop industry became much more open to foreigners, so much so that he was deemed as the pioneer because he was literally everywhere in Korea.

Nichkhun is the reason why Korean entertainment company go to scout and audition in Thailand.if not have Khun we wound not see Lisa Bambam Minnie and a lot.After khun in 2pm.every one is like eh Thai people can speak English a little . eh if idol is Thai you can sale his work of them in china and japan and get less bad feedback than another nation
It helps that Korea already has steady cordial diplomatic relations with Thailand...whereas it's a bit more tricky with China (especially after THAAD) and to a lesser extent Japan (depends on how anti-Japan the ruling government is).
I never get tired of hearing this story.
This was one of my favorite eps. He was very talkative and willing to share, it was a great conversation and I learned a lot. I hope Nichkhun visits the podcast again!
I believe Nichkhun is born to be a star. It's not a coincidense that he's being scouted and for whatever reason he accepted it, it's his destiny to entertain the world being a #2PM member, being an artist. We may not see it, but his company might not have debuted him if his not deserving of it. We don't know the whole story. All I know is that I'm so happy to have known Nichkhun and the rest of #2PM Taec, Jun.K, Wooyoung, Chansung & Jhunho. I thank JYPE for debuting 2PM 😍.
His voice is actually really good.It's just not on the powerful or intense voice but more like soothing and soft voice. You can go and check out his solo songs, my favs would be either "Story of" or " Mars" :).
Nickhun is like my ult bias in KPop. How come he still looks like the same Nickhun when he debuted. He still looks like he is still in his early 20's too
