"Moderate" fight competitions were the begining of the decay in effectiveness under pressure, a fight competition must be like Vale Tudo min rules max intensity, the great Hélio Gracie fought during 03:45:00 with no breaks, I doubt myself or anybody these days can fight full sparring this amount of time. I liked the Wado Ryu techniques in the video
M. Yahara has followed the original concept of karate as developed on the Ryukyu Islands for centuries which is a fighting or combat art as in the 20th century there were those who tried to "civilize" the art in order to make it popular but it should not be forgotton what Karate really is.
Just went through episode 1 and 2. I like your work as usual, I've watched a couple of your documentaries through the years. I would, if you may, share my thoughts with you. In my opinion, I think kyokushin was highly overlooked, there was only a quick mention when it came to competitions and that was it. I feel like the mentality and training of Kyokushin are part of the budo mindset and could probably have had a bigger part in episode 2. Also, I think other styles could have been integrated such as yoseikan ( I find the roots to be interesting, Minoru Mochzuki was a direct student from Funakashi, Ueshiba and Kano) but I understand there are so many styles, it could be hard to choose. Thank you for your work :)
Steve Bellamy Please keep your rumors for yourself. Yahara-Sensei just doesn't have the best control, that's all. There is no malicious behaviour here. He reported himself on his website, that he broke 3 ribs of one of his students during his 8th DAN exam. If he was malicious, he wouldn't do so. He is just too much into it sometimes! And just so that you know: almost every JKA instructor has false teeth! That's how intense it is there! You loose concentration for one split second, you loose your teeth! What we're doing is pure amateurship!

Very Good the Trailer. I like Wado Ryu Karate. But not exist many Videos on the Style.
This warrior budo is best in the World Series

Karate in Okinawa is famous for its rigorous practice.
It's a great move.
And that Okinawan karate is not Hollywood or sport karate.
Bought it!
It's pretty good but a little bit too expensive :)
Karate saved me twice
