This is exactly the solution I was looking for! We don’t need bottles anymore because we put in a filter system, but missed out on immediate hot / cold water with a built in Keurig. Thank you!
Thank you for this wonderful idea! I was looking to supply the water cooler from an osmosis water filtration system. This is definitely the easiest way.
You are very welcome. That should work great as long as there is at least 30+psi going to the solenoid valve it should fill the cooler tank quickly enough (cooler has a fill timer so it knows when the water level is depleted, i usually just open and close the door to restart fill timer if i have used a bunch of cooled water too quickly - like filling 1/2 gallon jug non stop)
Thank you so much for this! It was exactly what I was looking for. Works great! Question for you, what does your relay sound like after an extended period of pouring? Mine seems loud and excessive, is that normal?
I did the exact same thing! Similar model also. I was thinking of making a video, but you beat me to it. The sound of the pulsing solenoid is gratifying. Perhaps a link to the 12V solenoid would be helpful. I bought 3 for backups. So far, after 6 months, no problems. I will flush it out with a mild bleach solution and then with citric acid in a few more months.
Hello DDD curious if you are still using this setup. Its 2/3/23 and ours is still working perfectly and have saved approximately 180- 5gal bottle refill/exchanges so far. So happy with it, we hated lugging those big bottles back and fourth. Yes agree that solenoid pulsing is sooo gratifying. I will look for that link and I think it was from amazon (cant remember if i originally added it to video but i think so)
@Mac Aroni Still working with the first solenoid. I run some mild bleach solution every couple of months from the water filter through the cooler. I add the solution into the housing with the filter removed and then flush it through. Otherwise, there will be "lily pads" growing in there. 😆 The old bottles are gathering dust.
I will been trying this, hopefully this Thursday coming up. I got the part from Amazon. So the water pump is not needed anymore because of the water pressure coming from water line.
Thats great to hear, hope it works perfectly for you. *** remember to connect the correct (in/out) sides on the valve and use a 12vDC valve. Good luck.
great video, is it possible to instead of the water line coming from the home, it will come from a big 30 Gallon Water Barrel that I can fill with a couple of those 5 gallon bottles?
Thanks, and sorry for the late reply. I think in your setup it would still need the (fill pump/motor) since there's not enough pressure to fill the cooler tank.
I did the same but not sure why the out put I am getting in the 12v is list between 0.5 and 1.5v, Not sure why. Will it be issue with the door switch or the board or something else? Do you have any idea?
Thanks for the hack! This worked great except now the cold side keeps freezing up the water. My gut feeling says swapping out the pump shouldn't be related to the cooler but that is the only thing that I've modified. Now we need to shut off the cold side to let it defrost then it'll dispense water. We've defrosted the cooler a few times now. Anyone have any suggestions on the fix? I cannot see anything that would turn up the temperature so that it doesn't turn the water into ice.
Hello, yes the pump will be removed one way or another either partially or completely (i removed mine from the cabinet as its no longer needed) and yes water will drain from pump and tubing so place a bowl/bucket until drained. Hope you had success with your setup.
Thank you for this video! I did exactly as you said and everything worked great. Except every once in a while the dispenser makers a really loud buzzing noise that can be heard in the other room. When I press for the water to come out it sometimes stops. It didn’t do this before. Any ideas how I can fix this? Thank you
Hello 👋🏾 it’s a great video and very helpful I just have one question is the red light always blinking and can I still get the water cold/hot when is blinking?
Hi Omar, sorry for the delay but no the red light should not stay on (reset it by opening, wait 5sec then close the door) and if the light is on the cooler/heater will not run until reset. If red light happens frequently, it may mean there's not enough water pressure, water valve or filter clogged.
I have the same water cooler and am trying to do the same thing to mine. I ordered the same valve you used and installed it but the water ends up filling up and draining out of the overflow tube. I re checked everything to make sure the water was going the right direction and everything was correct. I figured i just had a defective valve so i ordered a new one and installed it but got the same result. I thought maybe the line just had too much pressure so i turned the pressure way down. Same result. I have no idea what the problem is. Anything i may be over looking?
Did you figure this out? Mine also overfills despite changing direction of the valve, swapping wire terminals and changing the water pressure coming in.
Is it possible to do this with the pump still attached? I would like to use a reverse osmosis filter system, but I'm worried that the water pressure will be too low.
simply because the pump has no way to positively shut off water pressure going into it but the solenoid valve does do this. You need a way to kill the water flow when the cooler knows its at full level.
I wonder if putting a shutoff valve in line with it where you could turn down the pressure would keep the timer from overflowing the unit? We had an issue at our office when they tried to run an RO water line to a coffee machine. Depending on how much water had been removed from the system prior, the pressure was always fluctuating in the line. The coffee machine just used an adjustable timer to fill coffee pots. We found that sometimes we would overflow coffee pots and have to catch it with a 2nd one, and sometimes they would only be half full if someone had used water from the water cooler next to it before coffee was made. We ended up getting a gravity fed machine because it required someone to watch every pot be made in case of overflow. We adjusted the shut off going to it as close as we could, but the pressure changed too often.
The fill timer is the circuit boards built in clock to shut off filler (on power) which is usually the pump so that if the tank level isn't filled in that time (aprox 1min) it thinks the previous source (5gal bottle) is empty and shuts off pump and cooler.
When I installed as per your direction, my water is passing through too quickly and dropping from all sides, then I changed where attached black and red cable. It got the error message. Could you please guide me what am I doing wrong
Sorry so late, I don't think so since the top load may use vacuum on bottle to stop fill flow as where the bottom?pump fill uses electronics and logic circuits to achieve this effect.
no because the pressure in the feed waterline will continually fill the water cooler tank and will overflow. There is nothing there to shut it off so the pressure just keeps filling
Hi Brittany sorry for the late reply. I don't know about those coolers but just a guess (common issues) water freezing at spout or outlet valve broken. If freezing leave unplugged for most of the day and see if any starts to flow and will need a thermostat most likely. Hope you issue is resolved by now tho.

Did not the water dispenser not heat or cool anymore once you converted it?
Thank you, this worked perfectly for my Primo dispenser. New well so we don't need bottles anymore, and we still get the hot and cold water.
I also have primo. What sort of things I have to buy for this. Can you please tell me with name

@@macaroni2415 I don't know. The filter flow is not that great. I'll let you know the results.
Did this very same convertion with the adition of a filter and it has been 6 months without issues and without changing watter bottles twice a week.

Probably the pressure is too high, try controlling the flow from the source valve.

@@averysimer5601yes. I ended up ordering a brass valve instead of the cheap plastic one and it fixed my problem. Ill post a link in a min.
After i put this on it actually would stay closed and not over flow the tank. Havent had any issues with it at all so far.
Do you still get hot water coming out after modification.
Is it possible to do this with the pump still attached? I would like to use a reverse osmosis filter system, but I'm worried that the water pressure will be too low.
I guess you will have to use both, the solenoid is for stopping the water flow when the tank is full.
I'm wanting to install a reverse osmosis system to my primo dispenser
Why can't we use the original pump on the dispenser?
simply because the pump has no way to positively shut off water pressure going into it but the solenoid valve does do this. You need a way to kill the water flow when the cooler knows its at full level.
UNFORTUNATELY I DID THE EXACT THING ON A PRIMO MODEL 601125 AND IT KEEPS OVERFLOWING THE RESERVOIR TANK.. ANY SUGGESTION? THABK YOU IN ADVANCE…😊
Same thing for me on the Primo Model 601292

Does the hot water work didn’t see you test it?
Yes, the hot water works too. It fills from the same source. Thanks for the question
How hot does that solenoid get? Does that cause any issues?
Sorry so late, the solenoid should not get hot or even warm if done correctly.
It won't get hot because it gets electricity only when the tank needs water.
Can u be more specific about the fill timer?
The fill timer is the circuit boards built in clock to shut off filler (on power) which is usually the pump so that if the tank level isn't filled in that time (aprox 1min) it thinks the previous source (5gal bottle) is empty and shuts off pump and cooler.

I would really appreciate the help here
I have the same problem when turning water on after changing filter. It seems to be the float isn't working correctly.
@@rottydog01 yes most likely float stuck or frozen over will also prevent its operation.
@@macaroni2415 turns out my pressure was to strong for it to close. Added an on/off valve to adjust water flow an haven had a problem since.
Does this work on units that are top loaded ?
Sorry so late, I don't think so since the top load may use vacuum on bottle to stop fill flow as where the bottom?pump fill uses electronics and logic circuits to achieve this effect.
Couldn't you just put a coupler on the supply line for constant feed without the solenoid??
That's kind of what I was thinking. Have you tried it?
How are you going to stop water flow when the tank is full? That's Solenoid's job.
Couldn't you just hook the water line to the existing pump?
no because the pressure in the feed waterline will continually fill the water cooler tank and will overflow. There is nothing there to shut it off so the pressure just keeps filling
Why couldn't you just hook the warexisting
Do you know anything about the quench bottles water cooler? I have one but the water is not coming out.
