Yes they could do something different like maybe think about switching around books like that fourth wing is in high school and a romance in middle school
The other infuriating part about this is that no one is forcing kids to read these books when they are in the school library. Do these book banners think that school librarians are shoving them into kids’ hands? And forcing them to read them? And what do they believe will happen if a child reads one of these books? That suddenly they will be irreparably corrupted and forever traumatised? These book banners need to go outside or something. They have clearly spent too much time indoors worrying about nothing-especially the ones that do not even have children in these school districts. Are they not about parental rights? It does not seem like it when they keep visiting other school districts and trying to tell them and the parents there what is and is not appropriate. This is so enraging.
I was in middle school back in the 90's. So the tail end of the Satanic Panic. I remember the day they banned all Harry Potter books from my school library (now, bare in mind, this was before we knew she was a țèřf. We just thought she wrote cool wizard stuff). My parents were able to afford buying me the books but others weren't so lucky. And a nearby public library wasn't built in my area until the early 2000's. For many kids, school libraries are the only way they can access free books. You take books out of that place and they will probably never be able to access them until they're old enough to travel on their own but by then their interest might have faded for good.
This reminds me of that Smosh sketch, and it was just too funny not to quote: "I think it's only fair that I speak for myself. We've heard a lot of accusations today about this man you call Lasercorn. A lot of horrible things were said. I'm an 'arsonist'. I'm a 'murderer'. I 'kill people for fun'. I 'choked Joven in the courtroom minutes ago'. But the thing you are forgetting, ladies and gentlemen, is that... you'll never catch me!" Aka, lady, you are standing there banning books in a courtroom... and then you claim you are NOT banning books. WE CAN LITERALLY SEE YOU.
This is why reading is fundamental. So you can understand how your ideas, morals, and values are only relative to everyone else's.

And that's reading comprehension is important and the old lady needs to read more.
