If Cyclops can block his lasers with his eyes then does that mean his eyelids are almost indestructible?
No, his powers don't hurt him or his brothers. Same when Havok or (other guy don't remember the other brother's name) use their powers on each other.
Odin Magnus Convenient
Odin Magnus Vulcan
+ananthusarat or his powers don't activate until he opens his eyes
+ananthusarat actually in astonishing X-men he showed that he could control his power and hold it back but it takes a lot of energy from him.
it was a pretty cool moment
"Welcome to Comic Misconceptions, a show that does... stuff, I'm your host... me" - I would subscribe right after that line if I weren't already.
Raziel Qwazar Hahaha. Man, this was a long time ago.
*****
Yeah, I decided to catch up on this show of yours :)
Love how this list flows almost seamlessly from one point to another, by the way.
Raziel Qwazar Thanks!
***** Omg animorphs I just had an entire segment of my childhood given back thanks scott liked and subscribed
***** you mentioned the book series Animorphs. I love those books I'm officially announcing you as the most awesome human being I've ever known.
Storm is my favorite fictional character of all time. She's beautiful, regal, graceful and fierce. Smart and strong enough to lead the team (and she has, numerous times), but also willing to depend on her friends when need be. She has the most compassion out of any X-Man alive today (behind Nightcrawler now that he's back from the dead), but she can still fight and kill when she needs to.
She was also the first black female superhero, but she never let that define her, instead becoming a strong character in her own right.
Very well said!
My fav x-men is Kitty Pryde, Storm, Phoenix(Rachel or Jean), Wolvie, Gambit, and Psylocke before she became ninja.
Probably in that order, too.
(I was also more fond of Gambit before he started using playing cards)
RubberyCat That's interesting, because I was much more of a fan of Gambit when he uses playing cards. Mostly because I used to be an amateur magician and collector of MANY different decks of playing cards. I still have a box full of different sets, but I got rid of a lot of them.
RubberyCat
I think Psylocke acted more like a ninja before she became one. Weird, no?
Also, Gambit only didn't use his cards for maybe, what, one issue? Two, tops, before they became part of his arsenal? I don't remember his personality changing all that drastically during that time, except that Claremont fleshed him out more.
Curt Clark
Between Psylocke's return to action and her capture by The Hand, she first was with New Mutants a while in a pink outfit of some sort, and then donned a purple outfit with grey armor and cape with hood.
Not very ninja-like at all.
I'm unsure how long Gambit went without using cards, but as he met Storm when someone had somehow turned her into a child, and there was an entire Shadow King story thereafter ....
And I don't remember Gambit using cards until a fight in Japan that followed directly on a weird stint featuring Plasmawraiths (perhaps for the first time), Mojo, and Wolvie and Jube in an extreme far future.....
I doubt Claremont made that mess.
It is possible Gambit started using cards way before that though, due to two reasons, unless I reread the issues, I don't remember much from that time, plus, I read comics that was republished in my country, in my language, at that time, and those publishers skipped issues, and mixed x-titles because they preferred to publish what they thought were the best issues or at least necessary issues.
I know! Haha. Honestly, I was very short on time. I had to research, record, edit, and upload in about 12 hours. As soon as I finished editing I thought of many more facts I could have put in there, but who says we can't do another X-Men fact episode somewhere down the line? There's a lot of stuff there!
Colossus was and is my favorite x-men. Growing up I had Eastern European parents so I had a bit of an accent I was 6'8" when I was 14 and was the strongest one in my school so I of course could relate to him. That's why I like the x-men, there is literally a character that everyone could relate to. I'm new to this channel and watching some of the videos and I like them you have a subscriber here.
Fadil Prelvukaj Thanks for subscribing!
OOOOOOOOOOOHHHH!!!!! Sheldon just got slaaaaaaaaaammed!!!!
I think that incorrect fact was a set up for the joke that followed
They killed Jean! Those Bastards!
it been 10 years! dude the reason they kill of her because they no more storyline for her she was used up in way LOL
Sophia Wilson
I only know her from Marvel vs Capcom 3
Sophia Wilson
Many times they kill her because she is well... dangerous being pheonix and shit :3
Technically they have never killed the real Jean... they have killed clones, psychic duplicates, telekinetic effigies, cosmic copies, and extra-dimensional counterparts. Jean always turns out to have been in a protective cocoon or mentally projecting her consciousness or off in seclusion at the time.
Scott, I realized something: The X-Men's powers can sometimes be the exact opposite of what they are. For example, Cyclops' personality is usually calm, cool, and collected. His powers, though, are fiery and uncontrollable. Logan really wants to be a normal person with a normal life, on the contrary, his powers are that of a savage animal. Mystique wants to look like and fit in with everyone else (more so in the films), but a side effect of her powers are that she's blue, yellow eyed (with no pupils), and scarlet-haired. There are more and more examples of this.
I thought the x-men were named after the mutant "x" gene. Guess not.
*shrugs*
That's what I thought, too.
same as well
the mutant X gene came in later issues I believe
same
Retcons
Angel lost his wings as a result of being pinned to a wall fighting the marauders - harpoon I believe. Juggernaut is professor x's step brother, no?
My faves growing up were Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue and Nightcrawler. In the 90's the girls had all the best powers, like almost all male super heroes had super strength or something melee oriented like that but the girls had beastly strong powers by comparison. Nightcrawler was just cool, I also liked Iceman but the ways he used his powers made him look weak even though secretly he was one of the strongest.
I definitely agree with you on Kitty Pride. Also a huge fan of Sage, who I think needs some adaptation love somewhere, even if a technopath doesn't lead to exciting action scenes.
Gambit, Mystique, Magneto, Deadpool, Wolverine, Bishop, Cable, and professor X. I wish I had read more of the comics. I got one about an ex-soldier who was hunting magneto for killing his brother. It was very good. It did a quick overview of most of the events of his life and talked about the madness that eventually won over. Did anyone know that Magneto was once turned into a baby by his own student and somehow found a way to overcome that obstacle. I don't know how though. The comic didn't go into too much detail.
Finally, some love to Kitty Pryde.
I've always liked Psylocke the most, thanks primarily to Marvel vs Capcom 2 at the skating rink my best friend's aunt owned, which was my introduction to most of both of Marvel and Capcom's characters, outside of ones like Mega Man, Chun-Li, Spider-Man, and Wolverine.
However, X-23 has been growing on me too, she's a very close number 2, followed by Rogue, Surge, and Jubilee.
I loved the Animorphs reference.
***** Of course!
One of the books.
the absolute only reason i hit the subscribe button
Shawn Legend Thanks? Haha
P.S When you become morph-locked, you become a nothlit. That's the word.
The character in Animorphs who got stuck as a Red Tailed Hawk, was named Tobias!
I freaked the heck out when you mentioned animorphs. That was my jam back in the day.
Guy's name was Tobias, btw. Who couldn't change back any more.
5:17 Holy shit, Animorphs. That was the greatest thing ever when I was 10 (alongside Goosebumps).
Wow. Even Xavier attempted a pun but unlike other puns IT STUCK. FOREVER.
I'm with you on the Animorphs reference, his name was Tobias
You're awesome!
NIghtcrawler and Iceman have both been very cool and interesting characters. Their powers are very unique--especially Iceman who seems to be very OP when it comes to controlling heat--and makes them fan-favorites.
ice man and nightcrawler are bad asses lol
i saw posters for FBP and Suicide Risk back there i offically love this channel that is all
Patrick Dryden Hahaha. Thanks!
I loved the Animorph series!!! It was so sad when Tobias got stuck
Well, my friend spend only 4 month in England and came back with a strong Yorkshire accent, so I think it depends :D
I love how one person answered two red halves of 3d glasses to the answer for the trivia question lol
I always thought the X-Men were named after their X-Gene and that was it. Not cause they had Ex-tra power or whatever... That's still basically the same though so Imma just shut up....
Squidney Bean I'm positive they've gone back and made it the X-Gene. I was just pointing out the original reason.
***** Well, The X-gene was named after Professor X/ Xavier. That's why they're called the X-MEN.
I liked this episode so much I decided to subscribe. My favorite X-men decades ago was Xavier. Later it was wolverine.
My favourite characters from Xmen are rogue and gambit but the rogue in the film didn't really do justice for the comic rogue😣
I got the animorphs reference and the kids name was Tobias who was turned into the Hak
My favorite is wolverine and Cyclops, night crawler
My favourite X-Man? Nightcrawler, of course!
prof x has the same weakness as the OLD daleks
My favorite X-Men is Storm of course. And the answer to the weekly trivia challenge is It's from Invincible, another Robert Kirkman comic. One of the fictional comics in that comic is called Science Dog, and that is it's logo.
Xavier has the same weakness as ED-209.
LOL @ 2 "red halves of old 3d glasses"
That is the best answer!
Gambit is the best. New X-Factor is great.
Good call! I dressed up as Gambit for Halloween once. I still have my pvc staff that I spray painted silver. It looks terrible. haha
Storm, Wolverine, Emma Frost, Xavier, and Nightcrawler. But no one X-Man is more interesting than the group.
I am inclined to agree with that. I think the best part of the X-Men is their dynamic as a team.
***** Nightcrawler for world leader. I cried when he died. Then cried when he was in Logan's head in Wolverine (2010) 'Wolverine vs. the X-Men'. Then screamed when he came back.
I'm starting to get the feeling you're a fan of Mr. Wagner.
Tebigong101 What's not to love about a beer-guzzling blue-furry elf, who, when he went to heaven, only really cared about the beer?
Wolverine was first introduced in a Hulk episode. He was going to be a one hit character
.
Nightcrawler is my favorite xman
Mine too
I actually remember that Animorphs issue
So, BBT got the reason for the teams name wrong? That makes sense, seeing as the people who've made that show actually know nothing about science, comics, video games or how nerds actually act.
When I was younger, I liked Cyclops more, but over time I grew towards Wolverine.
My favorite qote in the x men is "I'm the Gugernot b***
Nightcrawler was always my favorite. Then Wolverine, and Colossus.
Wait a minute, you've read Animorphs?!
+FrankLightheart Animorphs was my favorite but they closed my favorite book store and I was unable to finish the series.
Thaddeus Thompkins Oh, I was bigtime into Animorphs back in the day. Big fan.
I never finished the whole series though because... well, I don't know, I think I eventually grew out of them.
+FrankLightheart - I finished it and far out did it end in a depressing way. They kill off Rachel in the second last book (Jake's brother while infested kills her), they win the war but are tried as war criminals (they get off but still; dark). Tobias flew off for years to be alone after the loss of Rachel. Jake's brother has escaped in the blade ship and later seems to kill Ax, this prompts Jake to get the team back together (except Cassie who has married in this time and stays behind). So Jake, Marco and Tobias head off after the brother. The last words of the book are Jake saying "ram the blade ship", so we can assume they all die.
Allana S Damn. What a sendoff.
I jumped ship about five or so volumes before end finale, but I still hold fond memories of the sci-fi adventure stories that captured my imagination as a teenager. I even read them to my little sisters as bedtime stories.
+FrankLightheart - They were awesome books. I couldn't believe the ending was so dark and full of character death!
Don't worry bro, I got ur animorphs reference lol
Go home Scott, you're drunk.
Also, my boy Cyclops!
He not drunk
For the last several months, I've been reading the original Uncanny X-Men, beginning with issue #1. I'm on Issue #40 now. Can't wait until reach Giant Size X-Men, when my favorite superhero (Storm) is first introduced. I've known about her origin since I was a kid, but I've never actually read about it. ☺
I read that the X-men were called that because of the "x" gene that made them mutated
Marco Morales That was added in later. The original reasoning was just because they had eXtra power.
Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me.
Marco Morales No problem!
No its because of Xavier the X in one movie someone told him that they (referring to mutants) can be your X men
I mean you can't really go by the movies more than the comics
OMG Animorphs reference!!! YES!! Tobias is the bomb!!
TOBIAS! 😭
That's awesome! A friend of mine asked whether the first appearance or the first full appearance would be worth more. I like to think the first full appearance would be. What do you think?
Urgh! I can't wait to tell my Big Bang Theory fanboy friends that it doesn't stand for Xavier! I am not a huge fan of the show,so I can't wait to tell them what it really means.
What's that? Big Bang Theory said something that's factually wrong? No way....
Honestly while I don't mind watching the show to kill some time, it is by no means educational. For every one fact they spew that's correct, they state 5 other things that are just demonstrably wrong.
YEAH! Kitty Pryde is the best!
Cyclops is the best he's not the in the x-men he is X man
About the bone claws. I always understood those differently. Earlier he did not have such claws. Then he got his adamantium skeleton coating and claws. After a while, the adamantium claws were so "normal" to Logan, than when Magneto removed the adamantium, Wolverine's regeneration powers regenerated the claws that have by now become "normal".
Here is a fact for you. The latest xman is named forgetmenot. His mutant power is to be forgotten. His backstory is that he has been on the team since day one but nobody remembers him. This blew my mind because he might have been on the team we just don't remember the fact that he exists.
Jordan Cosma So he is a Silence?
Wow I forgot about Animorphs! That took me back! Haha.
Truth Missick It's on Netflix if you want a flood of nostalgia. Haha
are you drunk? please don't drink before filming...
I don't drink at all.
+NerdSync the Animorph you're thinking of is Tobias
+NerdSync respect ✌️
I actually thought he was drunk, too. Guess Scott was just tires during filming.
+Q-Nao why was he tires hehahhha
Got lots of fave X-Men so its really hard to just pick one. Magik is pretty cool though. THAT SWORD!!!!
I really like Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine and Nightcrawler. I absolutely adore the Weapon X Saga!
You... You're awesome for that Animorphs reference. A new subscriber you now have.
Cyclops and Gambit will forever be my favorites
Animorphs wow. That series was out when I was in elementary school.
Tobias was the kid who got stuck as the bird. Fun fact the actor who played Iceman was in the live action animorphs.
Love Kitty too ^^ She's so cool and sweet and her powers... Just awesome!
First of all the reason that they were known as the 'X-Men' was because the editor told Stan Lee that he could not call his series 'The Mutants' so he simply improved a title which knowing Stan Lee was most likely because it was Charles Xavier X men. After all he was campy like that. He did do names that matched the first letters in many occasions, such as Jonah Jameson, Peter Parker, Sue Storm and so on. His influence of the X-Men was to make another story arch like the Fantastic Four that was published about a year before. There was a failed series that influenced him called 'Doom Patrol' which was about a guy in a wheel chair with a mutant team. One of the people that worked on 'Doom Patrol' also worked to make the first 'X-Men' who weren't much more than a remake of 'Fantastic Four.' Then when Chris Clement starting working on the project he made the X-Men who they were today. The reason for the characters being mutants was because Stan Lee got to a point where he had done gamma ray, radio active spider to a point where he said, well maybe they were born this way. Then that idea progressed to the idea of the mutation being a leap in evolution.
This was actually one of the facts I had written down but forgot to say. Thanks for contributing to the show!
Rogue, Polaris, Psylocke, Kitty, Gambit, Wolverine, Havok, Jean, & nothing beats the team.
Please do an episode on Wolverine's healing factor. It always annoys me that it's become this defining thing for the character, when back in the day it really just meant that he healed a little bit quicker than normal humans and was not a death-defying limb-regrowing deus ex machina for why they can never kill off the character.
It bothers me that Wolverine has become this hugely popular character when all of the other "All-new Giant X-Men" are just as interesting. I often have to explain to younger people that if the "X-Men" movies were made in the 70s/80s that the team would take precedence, or at the very least the story would have centered on Cyclops & Jean Grey or Storm, as before Frank Miller's run on the Wolverine limited series and the Weapon X comic he was a pretty uninteresting thug (still kind of is, in my opinion, but that's what opinions are for), and before Hugh Jackman he certainly WASN'T as sex symbol.
I also miss the days when Spider-Man could easily take down all of the X-Men (save for Professor X) single-handed because of the way his agility meshed with his spider-sense (their fight was the best part of the original Secret Wars) and made it seem like there was a reason he was Marvel's number-one superhero (before Wolverine got popular).
omg yes! you are 100% rigth!!
+Michael Adams (ARCWuLF)
Yeah, I remember that Wolverine as well.
I also remember how his "mysterious past" was a minor issue, and how he tended to have a sense of humor.
Also, that one time Cyclops beat him and Nightcrawler in a fight.
Good times.
"It bothers me that Wolverine has become this hugely popular character when all of the other "All-new Giant X-Men" are just as interesting."
Agreed! Nightcrawler and Colossus are just as good if not better characters. Cyclops is definitely a better character. I think X2 X-men United really tried to capture the essence of Clairemont's Characters. Definitely the best X-men movie yet and a nice rendition to God Loves, Man Kills
Kitty Pryde def my fave! Along with Rachel Summers/Grey and Hope.
My Top 3 X-Men (In no particular order)
Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat
Nightcrawler
Wolverine
I remember animorphs! Those were the golden years
I laughed too much at the stairs thing.
Thanks for correcting that glaring mistake from the Big Bang Theory. I have a comic where the origins of the original X-men was discussed & I distinctly remember the page you showed as proof that Prof X named them X-men for the "eXtra power" they have.
My favorite X-man is Magneto. I'm pretty sure that counts, in some stories he was an X-man
Great video. Always awesome to see other nerds like me.
My all time favorite X-Man has always been Colossus. He's just a big ol' metal skinned, pure-blooded Russian, teddy bear. Except for that one time when he had a well motivated heel turn and joined Magneto's Acolytes. Oh! We can't forget about the time he got the power of the crimson bands of Cyttorak!!
awesome,,,scott summer is my favourite x-men
His name was Tobias. The red tailed hawk
Kitty's my fave too. Ever since Professor Xavier Is A Jerk. April 1983 clinched it. Good times.
I love Kitty Pryde too! :DDD It's sad to think that all the movie-watchers think Wolverine is the one and only star of the show when the original X-men were so incredible...
But Wolverine joined before Kitty Pryde.
I just noticed that there is one incorrect (but hillarious) trivia answer among all the correct ones in the beginning. That made me chuckle. :)
Wolverine, Storm, Jean, Rouge, and Polaris, I loved them.
Animorphs reference! I think I love you. ^^ I loved that back in the day...
1:05 Haha 2 red halves of old 3D glasses! XD
Thanks for the AniMorphs reference!
I appreciated the animorphs reference nice job
My favorites are probably Wolverine, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Cable, and Psylocke. . And Magneto is one of my favorite villains.
boredXsomethingXIDK Magneto is the best!
Morph/changeling was always my fave.
You should've talked about iceman's omega level mutant powers so people can see what he can really do. Also shadowcat is my favorite Xmen and superhero/heroine period, and u should talk about her some too. Genius (or close to it) level intellect, computer wiz, she's been taking college level courses since 13.5 yrs old, went into the past, saved the world in days of future past originally, plus all superheroes, avengers, fantastic four, etc. all die due to the sentinels! And she's Jewish isn't she?? Iceman is also a certified accountant, Angel helps his dad run a multi million dollar business.
My favorite quote from the movie is when wolverine sayed" the whole world's thing to hell and your just going to stand there?" My favorite person it's lock head
I really like Night Crawler and Warpath personally
I remember that scene when Tobias stays as a Red Tailed Hawk
What about when Professor X had a major crush on Jean Gray. (Also, my favorites are Kitty Pride and Colossus)
Rouge, Kitty Pryde, and Jean are my favorites.
gambit has always been my favourite
Hey wait! I think there's a different explanation about savage wolverine. I think Wolverine's healing factor was keeping him from regressing into a savage beast. But when the adamantium was stripped from him, his healing factor was burnt out. Therefore, he could no longer overcome his physical degradation. Well thats how I understood it. You say his healing factor was overwhelmed by the adamantium, so when it was removed, his healing factor could proceed as intended. Kinda opposite of what I say. But you're a better expert than me. I could be wrong.
. . . I love your nerdiness lol . Im watchin x men like right now as I watch this video . Lol you're so cute .
