Gathering Winter Fuel

We invite you to see how we gather wood fuel to heat our space and water.
Wood is sustainably harvested from our woodland which is part of a Higher Tier Countryside Stewardship Woodland Agreement and is managed in line with an approved a five-year woodland plan. We harvest approximately 20 tonnes of wood annually, this amount is more than replaced by new growth each year as we work with our woodland to maintain light levels, keep it in good health and promote natural regeneration.
Our focus is very much on creating habitat for flora & fauna so we retain standing deadwood wherever it is safe. We select trees for felling where they are dead, dying or dangerous, where there are competing trees, or they are part of a thinning programme to allow more light into an area.

The splitter is a Wallenstien 20t and my chainsaws are Stihl just in case you are interested! If I was going to give a little (unpaid) promotion it would be to Englebert Strauss for doing stretchy chainsaw trousers that fit girls :)
