May I ask what the point of covering hotkeys are, when playstyle is a much more obvious way to tell which player is which? ^ ^

You're on to me inspector gadget.
The point of hiding chat box and hotkeys is to utilize the "dead space" of the screen to highlight stuff that matters like HP / Buffs / Meter.. etc... without people breaking their eyes to see every small buff change and pre-burst casting.
