    I was ECSTATIC when I saw this uploaded! I've been fascinated with combinations for years, and desperate to make my own- as an exclusively skirt/dress wearing person, they seem like an ideal practicality- but being a very beginner sewist I was rather daunted by the prospect of essentially scaling my own pattern. It's a relief to know that any mistakes I do make in the process will be lower stakes than an outside garment, too. 😅 Absolutely can't wait to make these, I've already got the fabric ready! Thank you so much for your work!!!

    I always learn so much from your construction videos! Currently I'm making the sewing kit, I downloaded your pattern taking Inspo from your patchwork design, I used a bunch of quilt squares from my grams sewing stash to make mine into a patchwork design as well. I too included the additional pocket, every new sewist should make one, it's such a good skill builder. Always ❤ Thanks Ora

      I love that you're able to use pieces that have sentimental value in your sewing kit! Thank you for sharing that

    Oh, thank you for this pattern, they're so cute! Combinations always seem really practical to me - a slip *and* shorts to prevent thigh chafing? Yes please! Plus in the right fabric (and with a closed crotch) I think they'd make a lovely summery playsuit/jumpsuit 😍
    Oh and yes, I like having the centre front line there 👍

    I'm going to make these as-is, as a combination chemise and drawers, and then I may convert them into a combination corset cover and petticoat. Thanks so much for this pattern!

    How 'historically accurate ' are museum pieces. They are the freaks which survived and are deemed exceptional enough to be on display. I would imagine that the roughly put together and simple combinations were the most authentic.
    Also cotton flannel was used for winter weight combinations; my great grandparents literally had to cut their scullery maid out of WOOL combinations.

      Thank you for that insight! I had minute or so in this video that I ended up cutting out about a similar idea. While beautiful, the Met museum combinations that have been recreated countless times on UA-cam are not representative of the vast major of combinations worn historically.
      Cotton flannel sounds wonderful for cold weather!

    Do you have any tips for working with a rolled hem foot? The fabric often seems to get away from it when I use it. I guess I don't know how best to hold the fabric while guiding it.

    • @Ora_Lin
      @Ora_Lin  Рік тому +3

      My best tip is to be aggressive in the way that you hold and guide the fabric. It should already be in almost a single fold hem when it goes into the foot, think about holding the fabric in a full “C” curve rather then just up in an “L” shape.

    Beautiful job... Except please don't pull your work through the machine it wears out the teeth in the feed dog; the tension may need to be attended to if your work is not flat.

    Video quality is nice, but I didn't watch it all the way through, just skimmed, because there is a lot of "tell" but minimal "show," so it's really impossible to follow. You don't even show the pattern pieces or how you put them together (the most important part in my opinion), you just talk about how to finish each seam, with no visual reference to help with comprehension, and it's hard for most people to follow verbal instructions alone. In particular, I wish you would have shown how the open crotch works and looks, not just the pretty modeling. You're on the right track, the video quality is beautiful... but try having someone you trust to be honest, who is a less advanced sewist than you, watch your videos and give some feedback about where they get lost. Perhaps I would have been less lost if I didn't skip through, but my ADHD brain need visuals to hold my attention and understand what you're talking apart.
