If you actually want to survive a crash landing, there's almost no reason to ever have your gear out. Just belly land. "Don't try to be clever...if you've got a damaged aircraft, land on your your belly and you'll survive... " - Jeffery Brain, Royal Air Force Mosquito Pilot.
Love the yellow distemper and markings - even though the 109 is a late model. Is that the Channel map you are on? Will be interesting to see how IL2 Battle of Britain scrubs up in VR and 4K.
Is there a penalty for death in DCS? Can't you just load up another plane? Or do you do it more for the role play/immersion, GS? (Forgive the ignorance. Non-player here, but love the WWII DCS content.)
Think the Triple A got him. You could see they was very close and going off near him. I think that what made him go what looks to be side ways at 10:41 it looks like his wing is digging into the ground. Think he picked a place to close to the Triple A. Crew is yelling. We got a Kill we Got a kill, lol
What is your plane armed with? Sounds like MK108, but the tiny explosions indicate it's MG151/20 at best. MK108 should basically 1-shot Spitfires, 1-shot tail/wing removal were the british test results of MK108 (wing hit didn't remove the wing, because the plane was stationary, but it was deemed structurally and aerodynamically lethal by the experts) vs Spit. Also the explosion should be pretty substantial, MK108 carries over 100g of TNT equivalent.
Hey could you do a video where you share your VR settings? Not sure if this has been done or not yet but I would love to see how you have it all optimized.
Is there any good way to play DCS / IL-2 WITHOUT head/eye tracking / VR? I've tried joystick with the mouse to look around, but it's incredibly difficult and frustrating that way!
Why not ? That yellow signs were only for identification for friendly planes and Flak batteries on the ground . Ordered by the RLM to prevent friendly fire .
@@5co756 Well yes but they havent been used after the battle of Britain and the Bf-109 K-4 was introduced in 1945 where every good visible paint would be a imidiatly death sentence for any german pilot.
Excellent principle to consider primarily flying for the faction that has the least pilots to keep things balanced and therefore more fun for all players. Commendable, though all players should aim to do this.
I've heard that early Mosquitoes didn't have air brakes, so they would drop their gear as dive brakes when dive bombing. If gear down is the "I surrender" sign, would that be like doing a Banzai Charge while carrying a white flag?
Not sure on the Mossie but the F4U has a dive setting on it's gear (main gear down, tail wheel up, fairings closed) for dive brakes. Also it's not terribly hard to get your hydraulics shot out, and one or both gear can drop. You see it a ton in period guncam footage.

You need to paint a black tulip on the nose and big green heart on the left side of the cockpit. Because you're that good.
these WWII videos are by far my favorite, 109 is my favorite... Couldn't be happier
Man, DCS WWII has come a long way.
Nav lights on usually means you want friendlies to spot the dogfight and come in for help.
Yeah, if there are lots of Allied aircraft, you should play the other side. Because, you vs. 15 might make an even match!

Gears down also means I'm going to bleed so hard to get a line of sight on you.
