Hi-Fi RUSH is a new action game from Tango Gameworks, creators of The Evil Within & Ghostwire Tokyo. It was announced and released on the same day for PC and Xbox, just under a week ago, and I've been playing it ever since.
This is structured like a typical Devil May Cry type of action game, except the twist in this one is that you time your attacks to the beat of the music for extra damage (and score). No matter when you press a button, your attacks will always land on-beat (visualized by your floating cat friend, 808, and various other things in the world... even the UI), so you should always be trying to time your button presses right instead of mashing. It's a unique concept that they've executed brilliantly. And of course the graphics are fantastic, the animation is incredible, the characters are likeable, the story is enjoyable - everything is just great.
This is a run through the Rhythm Tower, this game's equivalent to Devil May Cry's Bloody Palace. The only criteria that matters for an S-rank is your time remaining (you need around 8 minutes), so don't spend too much time trying to build up your combos. You gain time by timing your finishers and parry followups correctly, and killing enemies and clearing floors with a high style ranking. You can exchange time for items in Korsica's shop, but I don't use it.
I use the Pick Me Up and Hibiki skills in this run. PMU is good for healing, and Hibiki is a super powerful AOE attack that'll make quick work of any floor. I'm sure there's a more optimal setup once you're super familiar with everything, but that's a good, all-purpose combo to start out with.
As for my chips, I'm using the two that give you a 20% chance to get reverb and healing items for each parry (both at level 1), and the chips that power up Peppermint's electric shot to stun additional nearby enemies and increase how long they're stunned for.
I'll start doing a full S-rank campaign playthrough on Rhythm Master next.
(Will add chapters in a few hours)

Beat 'em Ups (e.g. Final Fight): • Beat 'em Ups
2D Action (e.g. Metal Slug): • 2D Action
STG/Shmups (e.g. Dodonpachi): • STG Replays
omg................. they have their own version of Bloody Palace from the DMC sereis and I LOVE IT
Who knew Tango Gameworks is gonna just suddenly produce something like this, of all people... Mikami, you insane executive-producer.
The shark costume just made this game a must own. But that music, smooth animation, the amazing footsteps sound, also played so cleanly - feast for the eyes and ears. Great work on the climbing.
I wanna share something neat that I discovered when browsing the steam community for the game: You know how enemies with blue energy barriers don't start fights with them active, but instead do an animation to put them up? That's because you can parry when standing next to them to break the barriers instantly without using Peppermint. It's especially good for the big enemies with extra tough barriers. Likely quite handy for rhythm master too.
Oh my gosh, yes! Iconoclast playing HiFi Rush!
Looking forward to your Rhythm Master S-Rank series!
Man, you are killer good at landing those multi-assists. Quick changing is hard!
You can quick WHAT??
@@Aflay1 I meant it’s hard to quickly cycle assists mid combo
@@quailron1581 Not too hard to just throw 'em all out at once though
Its not hard if you just keep your index fingers on the triggers-
Oooh, those are some gorgeous finishers!! I got a lot of studying to do.
Dang man! You wasted that Samurai Bot like nothing! They are the hardest to me. Well done!
Awesome! I love this game, and I'm starting to get S-ranks like you.
Oh man, I wish I'd seen this before trying to get an S Rank. I through getting S Ranks in all floors would do it, but ended up with an A :(. At least I know what to aim for now! Thanks!
I knew it, i knew you will play this game since you are a Master of Ninja Gaiden 😎👍❤
If you don't mind spending one bar of meter, you can do a 4 hit aerial combo into Macaron's Jam attack to break big armor instantly.
“I’m going to get a rank in rhythm tower dressed as a shark. Ask me anything”
Th-the fucking fist that Roquefort dumps in the pile of coins can PARRY HIM?! Oh my God that's an insane detail!
Btw idk this game can do character swap middle the battle, nice twist🤘😎❤. Oh well, time for me to get this game and feel some mashup rhythms 🤘😎👍❤
Someone should call Xhl Gladiator and tell him to get in on this!
(I'll tell him if no one will...)
Who would win: 50+ Waves of Deadly Killbots or One Very Sharky Boy
Skin of shark, i loved!!!
I was already on board with this game, but I was wondering if it has cool higher difficulty settings. Didn't even think about a bloody palace type mode, but that's great too. I'll watch this later once I've played the game. I hope Rhythm Master changes enough so it doesn't seem underwhelming to me compared to something like Bayonetta's hardest setting.
I'm playing Pizza Tower for the time being. You interested in it, iconoclast?
Yeah, Pizza Tower looks cool. It went totally under my radar, I'm going to buy it when I get a chance.
From what I could tell by playing through Hard & Very Hard, the enemy placement doesn't change across difficulties. I haven't started Rhythm Master yet but I'm expecting the same setups. It's a bit disappointing if that's the case but it's still fun regardless.
@@iconoclast575 Yeah, that’s a little disappointing. Oh well. Thanks for letting me know. I really like your play btw. I’ve been following you since I looked up The Ninja Warriors Once Again gameplay.
Didnt know Kaggyfilms/Shallot was playable.
I got to the last phase of the guy who turns into a werewolf and ran out of time 😔. Going to try your chip set up next time
@clipCommander what chips and level
@@taurrinbelton659 i got to level 49 and i used maxed out invincibility on parry and level 2 damage on parry
Good, i managed to 31 floor, gonna try again
I need see the korsica costume You earn
I recently got 21:50 left to spare with no items!
Nice gg! Did you unlock anything at the end?
If you beat it twice u get a chai skin that makes him look like he’s in a manga
i still don't know how to get so much time, i can't pass the first boss couse i run out of time, aways get there with 1 min only
Perfect parry, jam combo/counters, perfect beat hits etc give you extra time, along with high style meter and killing enemies.
I'd say the focus is on beating enemies as quickly as possible while parrying everything because that gives a lot of style meter
I beat the boss with only 45 seconds entering.
I just try to break one fist asap, you can parry the fist slams and punish immediately, when you break his face just hit the weakspot as much as you can. You can also parry the stun floor, iirc it’s only one hit in all phases so you only gotta parry once
Pro
What is the chip combination you used to get there I'm still stuck on boss 1 I'm always running out of time
How do you keep getting the 5 second+? Is it because your reeverb meter is full?
The +5 seconds is for perfectly timing the final hit of a combo. A perfect parry gives +1.5 seconds, and the assist followup afterward is another +5. Plus some other bonuses, it's all related to timing stuff correctly and your style ranking. (This is off the top of my head, can't check my video at the moment)
Does rhythm tower still count the rewards?
hey, are there any additional dialogues after you finish the tower?
I don't think so. There's just the rewards for completing the related challenges in the wall art section.
what chips are best for rhythm tower
Pick Me Up and Hibiki are a good mix of survivability and damage.
@@iconoclast575 I could see how those would help with survival. I’ll give that a try. But what about the chips? Are you using the increased meter? Or combo duration?
@@SIRKSELASOR21 the one that increase style meter + the one that add invincible frames with perfect parry
the one that increases reverb gain.
If ever a game's awful trailer managed to completely turn me off from any game, it's this one. Maybe I should reconsider though? Looks okay, if a bit unexciting for an action game...
Seeing and playing are two different experiences, your final thoughts might change once you actually play it.
@@CarbyGuuGuu Yeah that's what I'm hoping as well - and most trailers tend to be garbage anyway, though not usually to that degree - how is the enemy variety in story mode? Bloody Palace is one thing, but does the game vary up enemy encounters well? Wish there was a demo. Hope I'm not bothering you!
What’s wrong with the trailer? It’s good.
Wait, what is wrong with the trailer?
The entire game is trying to replicate the feeling of a 2000's/2010's 3D animated cartoon, ya know like Slugterra, max steel etc, and the trailer was faithful to that premise
