Just a note here. This song was written by me, Rob Carlson (with an L) as one of a series of songs written as the soundtrack for a film about the old time Gloucester fishing industry. It was called "The Gloucestermen", directed by Mary Feldhaus-Weber and produced at WGBH, public television in 1973. To my knowledge there never was a folk group by that name. One lyric nit pick, it should be "he slept and he dined and he liked it fine" in the second verse. Thanks to Tom Roush for covering it with this excellent performance.

Rob' My apologies for the mix-up on the lyrics. I was given a very poor recording for the melody and lyrics.
