It's honestly sad, how the earliest version of Hello Neighbour basically a Pre-Alpha, not even fully textured or animated yet, has better neighbour AI mechanic's than the newer versions. The fact that you could set up traps, push drawers in-front of doors and all of that to try and keep the Neighbour out as long as possible, was honestly much better than what we received in the full game. It's such a shame how they focused on lighting and the neighbours house, more than the neighbours AI mechanics.
Exactly. At the end when the garage door closes and the neighbor just jumpscares the player is terrifying, i think we can all agree that more newer versions come out, the games gets less scary and the older the games were the scarier they were.
I'd say the prototype is when things started to change. Then Alpha 1 came out and was a massive difference. But when they released Alpha 4, lets say that the game wasn't scary and instead was a game that helps your brain by solving random stuff. Can't wait for HN2 full release
"helps your brain" shit no how the fuck am I supposed to figure out that you slam a shoe into a closed off lever at a specific angle to flick it? And the worst part is that I did the CHEESE METHOD the real method is just so bad
can we just talk about the very early gameplay for a sec? that was so cool and would genuinely be so scary, the way he barges in through the window when you lock the door, and also the way the player can move things around like that? itd be so much more scarier if it was finished and textured. i hope someone remakes it.
oh yeah, and also the mechanics for the neighbour, he was actually smart and did things to stop you, while i think pre-alpha, prototype, and alpha 1 and 2 were scary, this wouldve topped it. he closes the door, blocks entrance ways, ect. he was actually realistic, this would make the most sense for a horror game.
I am currently creating a Horror game inspired by Hello neighbor, my goal is to make the game like Hello neighbor but more realistic and add that Horror ambience to it, just like the Old Days.
Omg the 1st one had so much detail! The hand moved when it grabbed items, And hello Neighbor jumped thru the window! And he closed the garage door! He also blocked the other door. I’d day it would be an awesome game if the graphics would go up and the rendering and some color would make it awesome! Plus the prototype had an awesome animation with the hammer braking the boards.
I liked everything through alpha 2. The pre-alpha was a bit of a disjointed mess when it came to puzzle solving, but showed off the then impressive AI for the house design. Alpha 1 expanded on the house and puzzle solving, creating a large, but still believable exterior, but a world of fun and wonder inside, especially the unknown in the basement. Alpha 2 had a story expansion, and while gameplay wise, this is where things began to take a turn for the worse, the lore admittedly had me intrigued, and I liked the much more realistic approach to the house. Everything after that was just too unrealistic for me to a point where it just wasn't as enjoyable, especially with all the bugs and poor gameplay.
The prototype (pre alpha) version and alpha 1 had one of the scariest background music when hello neighbor was chasing you , gives any one nightmares .
@@Voidkool_Edits it was a test animation, it’s not actual gameplay, it was made as a idea for what the full game could be It was made a year after the game started development, the reason it is mostly just white and red is because they didn’t add textures to the animation (since it was just a test)
It was simple tho, and it's when I started playing the game I'll never forget the beta and Alpha 1, they were straight to the point (to see what is in the basement).
i didn't know the game gained so much hate.. i mean i never played it, just watched it on youtube and i really found it a fun and interesting game, with all the puzzles and details that contribute to the deep and emotional sad story... yes i totally agree the game was meant to be a horror stealth game and truly the first versions were scary and thrilling, but I don't mind what it turned out to be.. it's so complex
The older versions were better for us older fans because it was actually tense and challenging. There was the claustrophobic feel to it and the neighbor's emotionless face which made him seem inhuman. The house now is just a clusterfuck and the neighbor is just an annoyance and isn't really that intimidating.
The game looked really nice until alpha 3. The pre-alpha, alpha and alpha 2 had good animations and 3D models. Then suddenly alpha 3 was a glitchy mess with weird animations.
Alpha 2 was the best, it was nice and simple and it really was just seeing what was up in your neighbor's house. Not find out what's going on in your neighbor's thousand feet high atrocity.
alpha 1 is probably the best (publicly) playable build. great atmosphere, challenging ai, and an incredible artstyle to boot. boy i sure hope they dont screw up every aspect of this in later builds
Is it just me or is Hello Neighbour 1 and Alphas Very Nostalgic! Makes you think of the good times as a kid and also watching DanTDM play Hello Neighbour while Turkeyboy420 helps him. gosh the good times
Alpha 1 and everything before it was actually good and scary. The style the games were going for seemed good. Sadly, popularity got the best of the game and it turned into what it is today. A puzzle game with a tedious AI that attacks you, but 99% of the time can't function right.

Not that I don’t love the early versions as they looked more realistic I think what they have now really boosted the games popularity and difference from any other games you’ll see. Also the grafics are becoming much better as they move onto hello neighbor sequels and prequels with better Ai and stuff that really show through pc and Xbox versions of the game :).
No man, the game has gone down in popularity. Alpha 2 was literally where the cartoony style started but it still managed to be scary. Now it isn't scary, puzzles are crap, story is crap, graphics look good tho. But still
but the thing is, you can make a cartoony style, a different style. Like little nightmares, and make it horrific. But they just, lost the horror on the way, the AI in the official release is absolute trash, and I hope they'll fix everything for HN2
Tbh the full game should have been a finished pre alpha house with a finished basement. Would have been more scarier and make more since compared to the madness full game

Personally, I quite like the game that Hello Neighbor became. I personally do believe it went from a horror to a puzzle game, but I love the puzzle game that it turned out to be. The game certainly was buggy but they must've patched it because I went back and played this game just this year and I barely ever ran into a bug except for the occasional crash that happened during long play sessions, and even when the game did crash, the auto save function would prevent me from losing too much progress. The AI isn't half bad either, it's not pre-alpha levels of insane but it is certainly better than your traditional "chase the player" enemy you see in a lot of games. The Neighbor can set up bear traps and cameras and can notice things like flashlights and things that are askew in his house and become more aggressive as a result. The Neighbor has a routine where he does things that any human would do, like sleeping and using the restroom. Sure the earlier alphas had most of this stuff but that's the point, this is some really cool stuff that they didn't cut from the alphas and is still very present in the full game. I do know that they cut stuff, but the stuff they kept with the new stuff isn't even close to bad, I would dare say it's great. One thing I've noticed is that in a lot of reviews they point out how not scary it is, and no it's not scary and yes they should remove the part of the description where they say it's a horror game, but if you go into it expecting a puzzle game with the occasional little scare, then I think you'll have a pretty good time! It's not a horror game, but that doesn't mean it's not a good game.
hello neighbor is just amazing! you always feel the sensation in your skin of being hunted by someone (in the case of the game, your neighbor). I say stealth because it has certain elements of it. The horror of the game is not even mentioned, this game is simply great!
The fact that the prototype coming out before pre alpha has better graphics more mechanics better aptmosphere, better sound design and so much better animations than THE ACTUAL GAME shows how tragic this game is
Heres my combination Music and sounds: very early gameplay House: prototype Ai: pre alpha/alpha 1 Puzzles: hn 2 Story : alpha 2 Visuals and textures: prototype Models: pre alpha
the pre-alpha is probs the scariest because when you trick the neighbor into leaving his house, the sound affect, "Near" plays unsettling music while it also plays feet walking on wood misleading the player into thinking the neighbors still in the house
The early versions of the game were much better. Pre alpha to alpha 2 were the best. The versions after that felt really wonky to play. It also decided to add alot of parkour in the game even though thats the most wonky mechanic in the game.
I personally think that the “Prototype to Alpha1 Era” was the best of hello neighbor. The game was much more scarier than what we have got, the sound design, simple premisse, Actual good AI , the house design itself And most importantly, the neighbor seemed more creppy and was a actual threat that you wanted to avoid It actually makes me sad that this game had so much going on but then the final game compared to the alphas was a big downgrade
Then from 2014: Neighbor: I WILL CATCH YOU AND KILL. Player:OH SHIT I CANT ESCAPE. Now: Neighbor:O you out from my territory with all keys! its nothing. Player: Lol.

man I loved the old versions of the game so much more scary I it looked like a real horror game back then honestly, I feel like when alpha 4 was realized it didn't look like a horror game anymore to me. the old AI in the game was different and u could break it easily the game looked more real back then to me.
The early prototype gives off an old shiver down ur spine making u realize the good memories you've had over the years...... I miss that old feeling that calming music. Everything was much easier back then...
I remember finding out about hello neighbor ever since the prototype
It's honestly sad, how the earliest version of Hello Neighbour basically a Pre-Alpha, not even fully textured or animated yet, has better neighbour AI mechanic's than the newer versions. The fact that you could set up traps, push drawers in-front of doors and all of that to try and keep the Neighbour out as long as possible, was honestly much better than what we received in the full game. It's such a shame how they focused on lighting and the neighbours house, more than the neighbours AI mechanics.
my god, the red neighbour in the very early gameplay is terrifying. especially in the thumbnail of the video
The thumbnail was very creepy
literally, something about very early prototype things freak me out, like the graphics and like everything else about it. just very creepy

@@janvertonghen14 defo
can we just talk about the very early gameplay for a sec? that was so cool and would genuinely be so scary, the way he barges in through the window when you lock the door, and also the way the player can move things around like that? itd be so much more scarier if it was finished and textured. i hope someone remakes it.
oh yeah, and also the mechanics for the neighbour, he was actually smart and did things to stop you, while i think pre-alpha, prototype, and alpha 1 and 2 were scary, this wouldve topped it. he closes the door, blocks entrance ways, ect. he was actually realistic, this would make the most sense for a horror game.
@@tembelssgmod he didn't do anything to stop you while chasing you, only chase you nothing else. only after he caught you.

Omg the 1st one had so much detail! The hand moved when it grabbed items, And hello Neighbor jumped thru the window! And he closed the garage door! He also blocked the other door. I’d day it would be an awesome game if the graphics would go up and the rendering and some color would make it awesome!

I share your opinion with you. I don't see this game as a horror either, for me it's just a puzzle with an enemy. I saw it in the very first versions.
The older versions were better for us older fans because it was actually tense and challenging.

I love how the very early development of hello neighbor came in 2014, along with fnaf
The 2014 one looks WAAAY more horrific
More like he’s a supernatural monstrosity
While Alpha 1 really shows his ability to adapt to your crap
hello neighbor is just amazing! you always feel the sensation in your skin of being hunted by someone (in the case of the game, your neighbor). I say stealth because it has certain elements of it.
The horror of the game is not even mentioned, this game is simply great!
I like the 2016 one most because that’s when I started to play it
To see something from 5:36 go to 19:41 is crazy the quality jump is insane but I wish they kept the original alpha style it seems much more scary
The fact that the prototype coming out before pre alpha has better graphics more mechanics better aptmosphere, better sound design and so much better animations than THE ACTUAL GAME shows how tragic this game is
The fact the pre prototype 1 hello neighbour is smarter than the hello neighbour now

Music and sounds: very early gameplay
House: prototype
Ai: pre alpha/alpha 1
Puzzles: hn 2
Story : alpha 2
Visuals and textures: prototype
Models: pre alpha
the pre-alpha is probs the scariest because when you trick the neighbor into leaving his house, the sound affect, "Near" plays unsettling music while it also plays feet walking on wood misleading the player into thinking the neighbors still in the house
The game was much more scarier than what we have got, the sound design, simple premisse, Actual good AI , the house design itself
And most importantly, the neighbor seemed more creppy and was a actual threat that you wanted to avoid
It actually makes me sad that this game had so much going on but then the final game compared to the alphas
was a big downgrade
