I agree with Thomas below. Maybe the best install I’ve seen. Working on my own design and plan to incorporate this into it. Honestly Ant…your strong suit are the how to videos. You do really shine here. Impressive like your musCles 😂
Sid, Your Battery compartment is impressive. If you have a problem it will be easy to identify and resolve. Having two B2B is a good idea incase of failure of one. I can see that you tale a lot of time to ensure that the job is completed to a high standard. Take care
Hi Tech but keeping it simple. Those little thermostatic switches can be purcgased in loads of values C and they are robust simple switches. easy to fit and with so many uses. We fitted two on our engine bay blower and sucker. It keeps the bay cool and stops all that heat in the summer. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
Hi, Greetings from Belgium and thank you for the verry usefull video’s! By watching these i was able to perform maintenance on my heath exchanger myself which saved me a bunch of euro’s to spend on a lifepo4 upgrade. I am also looking into Victron Orion’s to charge the lifepo4 batteries. I have a Bavaria 37 2007 with the factory 110a alternator. I guess it is the same as your alternator? Will this alternator keep up with 2 Orions? What is your experience with this setup? Regards Gert
Gert. Hi the standard alternator should be 115 Amps max. Two B2B chargers works ok but they do get hot even with the fans on. If we did it again I think we would fit an external regulator to the alternator. It may be an upgrade we do at a later date. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
Hi Ant just looking at installing a Victron b2b and am wondering if when you charge from mains shore power does the B2B come on when the starter battery charger goes into bulk mode. Ie: it senses 14v. Hope you’re both doing well. Phil
Nice job Sid! Is there a way to drive the B2Bs with the starting battery and have one less AGM? Also, given this is getting old do you have a summery somewhere?
Yes you can use the engine starter battery as the buffer. We may do a battery update in an upcoming video as we are fitting electronic fan controllers to the B2B chargers in a few weeks time. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
Very nice video! Just curious, did you consider running the fans directly from the output from the chargers (without switches)? I don't know if that would work or if there is some reason not to do it that way (besides running the fans when the chargers are not hot) but it seems like then they would only run when the chargers are running and there is no chance for the switches to fail. Not that it is a huge concern since you have two of them. Also I'm not saying you should have done it that way, mostly asking because comments help with the algorithm. 🙂 And thanks for the chalk on the file tip! Very good idea.
Hi Jim. I did think of the same solution feeding the fans from the B2B but the cables to the Lithium remain "live" so it would be on permanatly. The little green dongle is actully a link working as a switch looking at the Victrom blurb it may be possible by using a small diode to use this as power relay to switch on the B2B fans. A couple of days in and I think I will make some more mod's..... Stay tuned. Thanks for watching and great comments! Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
Nice video. I'm getting closer to deciding on the Boat Builder for my Next Boat, and right now I have a joint top of the ,ikely list between Bavaria, Dufour, and Jeanneau, a d I think Bavaria have nudged ahead, as add ons I want, e.g. Raymarine Instead of B&G (Nothing wrong with B&G, but as much of my life I've been a Software Beta Tester, Raymarine are already looking at introducing some of my Recommendations for Features, it's a Relationship I'd like to continue developing ), the Rear Cockpit Solar Arch .I'm after the Agent will have no problem with supply and fit, plus what looks to be a very nice feature, the Position of the Generator Space (I won't be having a generator) looks to be perfect for housing 800 amps of House Bank Battery Storage, and nice and low in the boat, will act as a fair bit of weight offset to the Solar Arch above it. Also nicely positioned for electronics in the Back of Both Aft Cabins, either side of the former Generator Compartment. With Cabin Fans instead of Air Conditioning, At least one extra Fuel Tank under the Rear Berths, more low down weight as well. I'm really liking the look of how things have been done in your Bavaria, so any thoughts after you've lived on board one for a while now ? Keep getting Better, and best wishes to you both, I think we're up to Drinks, a Meal, and some nice wine (I'll try to pick up some nice Galician Green Wine on my to the Med). Bob. The Quicker the Price of Silver Takes Off, the quicker my Boat Order goes in. Thank God I bought it Years ago as insurance. 👍
@@SVImpavidus Thanks guys much appreciated, and will do. Must admit am getting more than a bit anxious to get Afloat again, it's already been too long. Best Wishes, Fair Winds and Sound Anchorages to you both. Bob. 👍
Hi Ant, Hope your both well. I am installing a Victron b2b Orion charger and wondered if it starts up when shore power charger starts to charge the starter battery. Do you have to manually switch off the b2b or is there a work around? Thanks Phil
Hi Phil. Ours is connected to an AGM that is disconnected from the mains charger. So it's a bit different from your set up. The B2B has an auto detect built in that starts as the engine starts. As with your set up the B2B will. stop charging when the batteries are charged. (Basically it will go into float) So you cannot over charge the the Lithium. Hope this makes sense? Sail Safe mate. The ambient temperature here during the day is 34c and 25c at night so that's not going to happen. The operating temperature as measured in a later video is up to 70c The full output of 30 Amps per unit is still achieved. BTW The units are fused with a 30 Amp fuse internally. The ANL fuses are there to protect the cable not the B2B. This is why Victron recommend 60 Amp fuses ANL type that have a fusing factor of 125%. So I can't really see the points you are alluding too. Would you care to explain?
Ahhh Gemiler island... It's a nice spot to drop anchor out of season. 😀
Loved it! 😁👍

@@SVImpavidus I installed the Nordkyn VRC-200. Currently it is configured to limit at 50 amps. Looks promising for now.

Yes they only charge when the engine battery volts go over 14V. Sail Safe mate. Ant & Cid
You want the dcdc to be under 25c to have its max output... that 30amp plus 25%
