My grandpa owns a Colt Python. He showed it to me for the first time a few months back. One day I hope to inherit that gun, but hopefully that is no time soon!
same here in Denmark we are not allowed to own any handguns and if your a hunter you can not own any weapons that can hold more than 2 rounds and the magazine has to be welded to the rifle and all military style rifles are illegal, and if your a target shooter like i am you can only shoot with a 22 rifle
Back in the early 90's, I actually carried the Colt King Cobra as a backup piece to my H&K .40 cal when I was a Deputy Sheriff/ERT. I had the revolver previously to carrying it as an ERT member. This was back in the day where the average guy stood a chance at affording a Colt firearm. Now, they're priced so high that most people with regular incomes cannot afford them without taking out a second mortgage.
Excellent guns. By buddy and I each bought Anacondas the first year they came out. Lots of fun at the range and hunting together. But .357 has been my primary carry since the 80's. Now it's the S&W 327NG. Sootch, you are the man. I always think about you for a minute when I've got a cigar around the fire.
I bought a 4" back in September of last year for 785 bucks! Great gun and it a keeper for sure I also have the box + manual for it too. These have low production numbers far fewer made than the Python. That value on these is increasing a lot!
Took me a while to realize the King Cobra is a target version of the Lawman. Well, the Trooper was too, but the KC snub looks like a target Lawman (snub version of Trooper) cool gun. I have been curious to know what shape/size grip frame the KC has. I love wooden panel grips and I don't know if the KC can have them or not? Lawman has them, so does the Python. This one may be a different shape.
I have been wanting this revolver for a few years now but living in California and it not being on the roster just makes it that much more difficult to find, and when found the asking prices for them are outstanding. (1600+ at times)
OMG was the ''Dirty Sootchy'' at the end there? Love the vidz! Keep em coming! I just wish your vidz were 16x9 so they could fill up my big screen without the black bars!
Hey Don I have on that was bought in 1986. it has a 6 inch barrel. was gonna sell it and several people wanted to give me no more 350 bucks, I just laugh at them and walked away. gonna keep it now!!!!
Man I heard from Weapons education on YT that they had you guys register your weapons and then a few months later practically knocked on your doors and demanded you turn them over. i honestly don't know what I would do if that happened here in Texas!
I had the 4" version in 89 and I couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with it. Never had that problem with my ruger security six or my S&W 686. I think i paid $300 for it back then. Wish i still had it even though i couldnt shoot it well lol!
The King Cobra was the only gun I ever sold, and I'm sorry I did. I bought the 4in SS KC years ago for $379 new, and last year I sold it without the box for $1600. I have been kicking myself scene.
I'm sure you know this... but I'll point it out anyways! You stated that a Ruger (along with a Charter Arms, Smith, and Taurus) all have a "push forward" rather than a "pull backward" release. Ruger actually has (my favorite type) a "push in" release. I find it faster than any other, and it doesn't torque the gun in my hand at all. With that said, to each his own. Thanks for the review, I always enjoy them!
How many calibers of guns should you have. And should you be like me and try to collect all standard calibers and a few oddball caliber of extra ammo to sell or trade?
Beautiful gun. I agree it is a collector's item. I could not tell from your video where the firing pin is located. Is it on the hammer or frame? I think the sw 686 rivals this gun in quality.
Tight! Old ones are definitely better as are most guns, at least colt and S&W revolvers. However, I do kind of like the new 3 inch KC even though it barely resembles a real KC, but I'd like to have a new one, bob the hammer, put on the old style wooden panel grips, polish the shit out of it and put a red bead in the sight. That's about it. I'd use it for carry, one to leave in the ride. I'm not paying like 900 bucks for one though. Screw that. If I'm gonna spend over 600 bucks, I'll just pay more and get an older one. I just bought a late 60's Colt Agent and it's beautiful, mint condition and the only difference between it and a Cobra (other than the name) is shorter grips. I put full size grips on it and it looks identical to the old Cobras. Nice bluing on the steel parts, nice blackened look to the aluminum frame and it had the box and papers and is mint mint condition. A new Cobra or Night Cobra are over 800 bucks. I got my Agent for 630 plus tax! How is a beautiful older one going for a couple hundred dollars less than a new Cobra?? I'll gladly take the older one. It has the exposed rod and it was from that couple years where Colt used a S&W-like roll pin to hold the firing pin on the hammer. 67-69 I believe. That's crazy. Most old Colts are going for more, but they had a mint blued 3rd issue Detective Special with shrouded ejector rod with original grips for about 750 but a guy working there bought it. I've gotten some really nice S&W revolvers from there too, several of them and they were ALL under 800 bucks and ALL looked beautiful. Couple really nice ones too I stupidly passed on. I saw a Mod 60 no dash for about 550ish, there was a nickel 49-1 or 2, had Uncle Mike's rubber boot grips and no pinned barrel, but it looked brand new for about 500-600 bucks. I'll take the older guns for sure. Nice gun. I'd like to get a blued and nickel pair of them. Anyone know what the grip frame is like? I love panel grips and always wondered if any colt panel grips would fit it?
I'm sorry for the spelling errors! I'm Navy military and I live in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. I have 2 Pistols for CCW and self-defense (PT138PRO Taurus .380, 15 +1 & Springfield EMP .40, 12 +1). Now I intend to buy a Taurus Revolver (also for CCW and self-defense, but I am in doubt about 2 models: RT88CI (3 inch Barrel Reinforced and Ventilated, 6 shots .38SPL +P+, like this video) or RT838 (4 inches Barrel Reinforced Recoil Compensator, 8 shots .38SPL +P+). Please, give me your opinion! Thank you.
Very nice firearm. Would live to have one. Last gun show I went to the four inch King Cobra was marked $1450.00 which I felt was high. After your video, I understand why.
Very good video, clear, detailled with the kind of explainations i like to know ....you're not putting yourself forward, and present the gun under all sides and angles, and you're easy to understand, (i'm french...) So thank you and keep going....
“The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive”. “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants”: Thomas Jefferson!!! i only shoot and realy pay attention to rifles but shouldnt the barrel have a crown? or do hanguns never have crowns? ive never looked at one long enough or just forgot to look
Great reviews!! i watched almost all of your videos in one day! My father gave me his colt king cobra 4" as a present. It will be my first revolver, after watching this video i cant wait for the paperwork to be done...How big is the recoil? Is ir difficult to shoot for someone not very experienced in short arms?? had one, 6 inch barrel, wish I had bought a s&w 686, mine got crushed by the UK government in the hand gun ban, live free and protect your rights, because there is none here in the UK
Why Colt doesn't start making their double action revolvers again. If companies like Ruger, Smith and Taurus can make and sell such guns profitably I see no reason why Colt can't do the same! I already have a King Cobra. But I like to think of it more as something I can use than just some collector's item. I would rather know that my gun is replaceable than that it is going up in value!
Technically, Ruger revolvers don't have a push-forward cylinder release. It's a button-press release, which actually brings the button backwards. So Rugers are probably the closest to Colts in that respect.

How could you give up a gun like that? I don't care what the govt. said, I would have hidden mine in a wall or someplace like that along with plenty of ammo. I could never give mine up, especially if a Government said I must. By them demanding I had to would just make me more determined not to. You must have guns stashed around the country that the Government doesn't know about. Surely you have people over there that wouldn't just roll over and comply. Sucks when the people fear the Government.
Which I guess is good to know if you are either are shooting individual rounds loading one at a time, want to carry on an empty chamber (not sure why since these are not SA), or are cheating at Russian roulette. ;)
Colt makes great guns, but they don't know squat about business. It is a struggling gun company with a checkered business history in recent times, start making these babies again, and they will make a bundle.
Colt has totally lost their direction, and are in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy AGAIN. The Python, original Cobra, and Diamondbacks were the best of the snake guns. At one time Pythons were price competitive with other guns to the point police departments issued them as duty guns. Colt can no longer do the workmanship they used to. Satin stainless is easy compared to mirror polishing a gun and then salt bluing it to a deep purple blue finish. Colt's AR stuff is now Mexican made. The Korean made Colt stuff was exceptionally well made (1911s and M16s/AR15s) for the South Korean military, made under license. Colt became an embarrassment in the mid 1980s. Their quality slid so badly the US government yanked their contracts.
Colt revolvers are awesome! I wished they hadn't stop manufacturing them. Go ahead Make my Day!
Colt Python is the Rolls Royce of revolvers!
My grandpa owns a Colt Python. He showed it to me for the first time a few months back. One day I hope to inherit that gun, but hopefully that is no time soon!
MY FAV Revolver .357 King Cobra 4'' (Its a POWERHOUSE!!!--Powerful Gun--I LOVE IT!!!!)>3 >3
lovely. The "King Cobra" on the barrel.
The Colt King Cobra is one of my favorite handguns.
Boy that brings back memories, I used to have a Colt king cobra with a 6'' barrel in nickel plating, back in the 80s.
I like the clint eastwood bit at the end
same here in Denmark we are not allowed to own any handguns and if your a hunter you can not own any weapons that can hold more than 2 rounds and the magazine has to be welded to the rifle and all military style rifles are illegal, and if your a target shooter like i am you can only shoot with a 22 rifle

I feel lucky to be able to watch such entertaining and informative vids. They make my day!
hi Sootch00,i'm a revolver guy,and every time you do a revolver video,i really enjoy it. thanks for the video.
Congrats on owning that beautiful heirloom. What a prize
awesome good thing i kept my 4 inch barrel 1 my father gave to me about 10 years ago. Now i won't ever let it go.
I really enjoy your vids! Greetings from Norway!
I have the 4 inch Blued Model made back in 1992. Great Revolver! I also have a 4 inch Blued Trooper MkV.
Beautiful gun! Thank you Sir!
And it’s back!!!
I truly wish Colt would bring back the Python and King Cobra. Great guns, and I can't imagine them not selling well if they returned! maybe one day...
Nice shooting revolver. I have one with a 6" barrel.
That has got to be one of the most beautiful firearms i have ever seen, good video as usual Sootchoo.
Man I love wheel guns, and thats a real beauty.
Great vid man, thx
Dude I love your reviews. So informative and a pleasure to watch thank you so much for them all. Keep up the great posts and defending The Second!
I bought a 4" back in September of last year for 785 bucks! Great gun and it a keeper for sure I also have the box + manual for it too. These have low production numbers far fewer made than the Python. That value on these is increasing a lot!
A 2.5” King Cobra would be right at home in my collection.
the gun colt should have brought back
yeah in the wrong caliber lmao
This will be the next one mark my words... maybe they will make more variations of the cobra first but the next model is the King Cobra
They just came out with the new version!
Another difference of the Colt is that the cylinder operates clockwise, unlike S&W which are counter-clockwise (shooter's perspective).
I liked the video. I'm picking up two Colt Pythons this weekend. I am so excited!
Took me a while to realize the King Cobra is a target version of the Lawman. Well, the Trooper was too, but the KC snub looks like a target Lawman (snub version of Trooper) cool gun. Great video sootch.. Sweet gun...
OMG was the ''Dirty Sootchy'' at the end there?
Love the vidz! Keep em coming!
I just wish your vidz were 16x9 so they could fill up my big screen without the black bars!
I will forever regret trading in my King Cobra years ago....It was my first firearm. Such a great gun.
Bought my 6" King Cobra back in 98. My first handgun. Will never give it up willing!
What a good looking revolver. Too bad the new Colt King Cobras look like garbage. Colt should've kept the same look
Can't argue with you there. Have a newer version and though functional, it looks so cheap.
Dammit, I was just going to buy one of these and now everyone is going to want one
Sounds like a beautiful rifle. Good luck with it!
Hey Don I have on that was bought in 1986. it has a 6 inch barrel. was gonna sell it and several people wanted to give me no more 350 bucks, I just laugh at them and walked away. gonna keep it now!!!!
The King Cobra would be right at home in my snubby collection. I’ve never seen one for sale, and if I did, I’d need a bank loan to buy it. Ha!
Man I heard from Weapons education on YT that they had you guys register your weapons and then a few months later practically knocked on your doors and demanded you turn them over. i honestly don't know what I would do if that happened here in Texas!
Great vid mate
Any suggestions on a good IWB holster for a 2” king cobra?
I had the 4" version in 89 and I couldnt hit the broad side of a barn with it. Never had that problem with my ruger security six or my S&W 686. I think i paid $300 for it back then. Wish i still had it even though i couldnt shoot it well lol!
Hay sootch, thats a beauty, God bless Kevin
if that ever happened here in america; one word...REVOLUTION
The King Cobra was the only gun I ever sold, and I'm sorry I did. I bought the 4in SS KC years ago for $379 new, and last year I sold it without the box for $1600. I have been kicking myself scene.
" Whats in a name " ?
In this case ... everything !
Just a classic Bad Asp !

I wish I had that Colt but next week I am buying a 9mm that you recommended. As always great video.

The timing of the cylinder latch is way early...look at the drag line, it's constant around the cylinder!
Ty man !
colt python is a smooth car but the colt king cobra is smooth tank...
Love revolvers!
very good vidio,thanks....

cheers for the invite mate, too busy working the bolt on my 7.62 Enfield Enforcer sniper rifle, far safer than a pistol !
God damn commonwealth. I live in Australia and its the same for us here. no freedom, no second amendment
i only shoot and realy pay attention to rifles but shouldnt the barrel have a crown? or do hanguns never have crowns? ive never looked at one long enough or just forgot to look

EXELENT REVOLVER!
BY THE WAY HAVE YOU USE A PUBLIC DEFENDER???????
where did you get it i have been loking for a airsoft king kobra revolver for a while thanks
hows that recoil with 38 special's?
Any plan for a Dan Wesson review? Fun show!!!
Thank you for your videos and keep it coming!

OHHH-Almost forget to mention My .357 is a Magnum ;)
had one, 6 inch barrel, wish I had bought a s&w 686, mine got crushed by the UK government in the hand gun ban, live free and protect your rights, because there is none here in the UK
Great..! I have one! Its very beautiful !
Great gun, very difficult to find!!!
With the Colt Anaconda, King Cobra, Detective Special, M-16, Peacemaker and 1911 how does Colt not rule the world?
Nice Don. What do you think about, Colt Single Action Army ?
Peacemaker. :)
The push-in cylinder release is quite a bit different from the pull-rearward cylinder release.
what do these sell for in 2016 (nice condition)?
Saw one the other day in a shop for 1,240 just like the one in the video.
i see. that's almost reasonable.
Not if the gun is collectible and in some rare configuration (rare barrel length or finish such as bright stainless or royal blue).
I don't bother even shopping for Colt wheelguns because the collector prices attached to them. To find a cheap one you end up with a well worn or beat up gun..and Colts do not take abuse well and wear out of time more quickly.
Nice vid bro
Nice revolver
In 3:18, is a Colt Anaconda ?
Leonardo Oliveira trooper mk 5
Did you get the idea to do this vid from bigdaddyhoffman? He just uploaded one on this gun yesterday lol
KING COBRA
3 inch on a magnum at least, Good review.
why do you always have the guns I want but can never find/afford?
They recently brought this back with a 3 inch barrel, so do with that information whatever your bank account allows.
