- [4K] Congo River Rapids at Alton Towers, join us on this water adventure at Alton Towers as we bump, spin and splash our way around Katanga Canyon and take a look around the Katanga Cargo Company Shop
Congo River Rapids is a river rapids ride manufactured by Intamin . The ride first opened in 1986 as Grand Canyon Rapids as part of Aqualand with the entrance located where Mutiny Bay is today. The area was renamed Katanga Canyon and opened up in 1992 and the attraction was renamed Congo River Rapids. The Runaway Mine Train was added to the area at the same time.
The Congo River Rapids passed through a section with waterfalls on each side, but these were switched off in 2017 possibly due to safety issues with people standing up to try and avoid getting wet.
Guest must be at least 1.1m tall to ride Congo River Rapids and if riders under 1.3m must be accompanied by an adult.

I love when the runaway mine-train coaster goes through when a river rapids boat is going by.
Yeah, I know what you mean, hard to explain but its like a special moment
I remember at the end of the ride I was getting off and I slipped back into the water. Not even joking. A man jumped over the barrier in the queue and pulled me out .

I'd die of fear the second i touched the water. I have a big fear of the water in water rides like this. Well, not the water itself, whats UNDER the water scares me. All those pumps, gears, jets, raft blockers..

This ride looks and sounds like a relaxing ride.
They have just turned the waterfalls back on after many years so might be a bit wetter these days.

Did they have ride announcements about the waterfalls as the boat goes round, it said something like 'this ain't no Jungle Cruise skipper, time to face these waterfalls head on' or something along those lines. This seemed to indicate it was going to be a permanent switch back on

Great video, but what a disappointing ride! The theming is abysmal. Ooooh let’s go through a dank, grey tunnel! 🙄

There were waterfalls and more rapids but people kept standing up to avoid getting wet, so it's all been removed and is more like a lazy river now. There are rumours the waterfalls are coming back this year though, many thanks for watching
@@PlanItPark yessss waterfalls will be back summer, they were meant to be in this season, but due to storm Eunice it caused damage inside

Yeah, it has been toned down over the years, we have footage from about 10 years ago and it was a lot better, but there have been a few accidents on these types of rides so it's a gentle river ride now
Why is it that almost all of these rides have some variation in one way or another around the country, like Thorpe Park. Seems like the only original ride location is Blackpool Pleasure Beach these days? Even Thorpe Park's Stealth is faster than Rita which is a bit slower than a 1000cc motorcycle 😂
Merlin own the biggest parks in the UK, so they have some similar rides between those parks, Blackpool is independent and puts up a different variety of rides to the others. Stealth was the fastest coaster in UK but Hyperia is reported to be now slightly faster
So this is why Waj wanted to wage jihad
