One time in college a friend and i accidentally activated the fire alarm of the photography area. There was this switch that honestly didn't look so different from a regular light switch so we pushed it and boi was it loud, we immediately turned it off and ran away. The thing is, there were stories about a ghost girl in there, it was around halloween/day of the dead (they had put an ofrenda/altar for her) and no one saw it was us, so everyone was panicking

In year 13, I was doing an A Level Textiles mock. I was on the sewing machines doing some embroidery, but the machine kept on unthreading. I tried grabbing the thread but I accidentally dropped my foot on the footpedal and I sewed into my finger. It felt like a paper cut but it looked worse. The needle broke and was stuck in my finger. My first thought when I looked at my finger was "I'm gonna be on TV!" because the nearest hospital where I live is where a documentary called 24 Hours in A&E is filmed. I had to go to Accident & Emergency, but lo and behold, the cameras weren't there. I was extremely disappointed.
The needle only broke my nail and I had to wear this weird finger sock for a week.

wow since we're sharing embarrassing art stories let me share my bit!!
so in seventh grade i was in my school's art club. one day we were leaving to go home, and i ended up having to wait by the door since too many people were going out at once (like when a funnel gets stopped up). since i was tired, i leaned on a table next to me and put my hand down on it, quickly realizing how cold and almost wet it felt. i looked down and discovered i had stuck my hand on a canvas that was painted over completely in fresh white paint. i panicked, so i slapped my hand down on the side of the table to get the paint off. my friend behind me saw and looked with wide eyes as i suddenly bolted out of the room with the rest of the class and to the bathroom.
the next day, my teacher asked us if the room looked different. when no one said anything, she pointed to the table and an empty space on the wall saying "my painting is gone and there’s a handprint right there!" i pretended to look shocked as she said someone must have stolen it, and for the whole week after, i faced dozens of people talking about the missing painting. someone even suggested going to the forensics teacher (which made me fear for my life). soon after, the painting turned up (it had fallen behind some cabinets), but the teacher still has no idea that i, one of her best students, left the handprint on her table.

I can relate to the portfolio one for sure! Last year, while I was waiting for my ride on campus, the wind was picking up so hard that my portfolio was literally dragging me off the ground. People around me where just looking at me fight against the wind and portfolio,a sight to see I guess xD Finally, the wind suddenly died off and I got smacked so hard by the portfolio I tripped and fell down against the fence. At that moment, my ride arrived and I quickly got up, picked up my stuff, and got in to a ride full of explaining and embarrassment... The wind is not an artist's friend I quickly learned xD

When i was in sixth grade, i was SUPER selfconsious about my art. (I mean, i still am, but its not as bad as it was in 6th grade :p) well one time, when i was going to the art wing of my school, i tripped on this weird platform my art class had outside of the wing and when i fell, the folder filled with my unproprtionate, terrible anime art was scattered everywhere. It doesnt seem that bad but since that school was filled with really bad kids (plus i have really bad anxiety and depperession :/) i was scared everyone would laugh at me. So i immediately started tearing up while trying to pick up all my art and art supplies. I eventually just broke down and had to go to the office to be taken home.
(Fun Fact: my anxiety was so bad in that school, i had to be taken home on an average of every other week and im currently being homeschooled!)

Same for me!! My anxiety was so bad I had to be homeschooled. What did it for me was the beginning of 10th grade, I was in this computer class where we had to photoshop our faces on a person standing next to our favorite celebrity for an assignment. My teacher took pictures of us with his camera and uploaded it onto our computer in the computer lab. When he uploaded my disgusting face on my computer it took up the entire screen! So everyone walking by could have a clear view of all my insecurities. I panicked and instinctively scrambled to cover my picture with both hands from prying eyes, while my teacher was laughing hysterically at my attempts for some reason.
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't shrink the picture. And if that wasn't bad enough, my teacher let random students pick up his camera to scroll through all the photos of everyone. Looking, commenting, judging, and laughing to themselves. I begged him to let me not do the assignment but he said I'd fail if I didn't. That very day I told my dad I'm homeschooling and idec that he got mad and screamed at me for it. I remembered crying alot that day and wanting to kms.

Both hot and cold water are good for cuts, just don't use both of them on the same cut, choose only one.
The best option for a bleeding cut though is to apply firm pressure on to it, that will stop the bleeding far better than water.

When I was 5, my uncle was digging a well in my backyard for a charity, and I really wanted to help, but my mom didn't want me to cuz she thought it'd be dangerous, but I kept insisting, so she let me, but she strictly told me to avoid anything sharp. So, here I was, my 5 year old self, digging with my uncle, when suddenly a glint of sunlight catches my eye. I walk over to the source of the sheen, and crouched down to it. It looked so enticingly smooth that my 5 year old instincts kicked in and I knew I just HAD to rub it. So I gently caress the suface of the object with my index finger. Only for it to start gushing blood. I screamed as loud as I could and started crying as nearly every adult available rushed to the scene. Turns out, I cut myself almost down to bone on a piece of glass.

I went to a graphic design school, and for every project we had to mount a printed out version on this black board, and we had to cut off all the white edges the printer left, and we had to do this with an x-acto knife, the first project we had to do this for (like the purpose of the project was to teach us how to mount because that would be so important in our careers as graphic designers) my friend cut the tip of his finger off. it wouldnt stop bleeding, i had to perform first aid. this wouldnt have been so bad if it werent like 10 min before the project was due. Someone else had to finish mounting the board so he wouldnt get a grade deduction, and his project ended up getting to class before he did because we were still in the bathroom trying to stop the bleeding.
and now the students dont have to do mounting anymore because the school realized that no one outside of the school did it

I also had a thing happen to me similar to the cut story... one day in the middle of class my nose started bleeding out of nowhere, and this was the worst nosebleed I have ever had in my life. It was bleeding so much and I was really embarrassed, so I tried to just cover it with my hand and ask to go to the bathroom without anybody noticing. But that didn’t work out, there was so much blood that when I asked the teacher if I could go to the bathroom she freaked out and the whole class started staring at me. So I can understand how you felt.

The paper cutting one really hit home for me.
My foot is actually in pain right now just remembering it!
We used to have about 3 acres of land that sat next to the woods. It wasn't straight up wilderness, every now and then you could just faintly hear someone playing the sax or clarinet on the other side of the woods, but it was still pretty dense when you consider the rest of the area (town and such). We actually had to stop going into the woods a couple years before we moved because there were coyotes that had taken up roaming there.
In any case! I divided up our property into three parts of what I considered each 'acre'. Horribly inaccurate. There was the acre along the woods and also where out house sat, there was the acre of pretty open land (literally one apple tree and the pirate ship-esque swing set my dad built us), and finally the acre with my mom's garden and the garage. Which was detached and at the end of our driveway, only useful for the vintage car my dad had (he inherited the family's chrysler dealership. I miss that place, haha!) our bikes and a whole lot of yard work/gardening stuff. It was like walking into an abandoned hardware store (it was messy as all hell). There was a teardrop driveway between the acre with the woods and the acre with my mom's garden. With three acres comes A LOT of trees, and therefore, A LOT of leaves. What did we do with them? After we raked them, we'd get them in the tractor, then our dad would dump them in the woods. We had our own supply of mulch/compost! One year, my sister and I were assigned to loading up the wheelbarrow with the decomposed leaves and take them to the garden where my mom and brother were spreading it along with other work that needed to be done there.
I was using a pitchfork to do this. Great. Fine. Well, up until we finished filled the wheelbarrow. I told my sister I'd wheel it over. I stabbed the pitchfork in the ground and walked over to it. Well. I tried to. I instantly fell onto my hands and knees. There was a moment of confusion, I hadn't realized what had happened. It wasn't until I went to get back up that I moved my foot back and it came out of shock. I put one of the tines in my foot! Luckily it was old and blunt, it hadn't gotten to the bone. *Just my artery*. While my sister, who was known to over-exaggerate my injuries to our mother, ran to get help, I was there screaming bloody murder. It wasn't until she told her it was bleeding like a fountain that our mom picked up the pace!
That's one of my best stories to exemplify my all around bad luck xD
Just a little extra bit; I wasn't taken to the hospital until a few days later when my nurse aunt said it was starting to look a little gangrene-y. And even then it was just the clinic we went to. Good times, good times.

That cutting your thumb story brought back a very strange memory of mine from secondary school. Very similar situation.
It was in a Design Tech class in year 9 - we were making a lamp from scratch (ended up failing that one because it almost electricuted my teacher) and we were using scalpels to cut out some fine plastic material. Much like Hailey, I slipped because I was tired and cut a huge bit of my thumb open. Unfortunately I wasn't so lucky and it went about halfway into my thumb before I had time to react. Now, take into account I've had social anxiety for as long as I can remember, and this teacher, though he liked me very much, had a history of flipping out at the smallest of things. He threw a chair at across a room because my friend forgot his planner. Luckily for me, he was very nice to people who were quiet and listened, which I generally did. Unfortunately I was still too scared to ask for help immediately and absolutely HATED making scenes because a few students in the class were a part of a massive bullying problem for me, so instead I followed him around for 10 minutes whilst he finished off talking to some other students and turned around
"Now what can I do for you?", with a lovely smile on his face...
And I just lifted my now blood soaked arm, sleeves dyed red and skin stained, and I'm not even kidding when all the blood drained from his face and he went
"OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE BLEEDING" and literally jumped over a chair with me being half dragged half thrown across the room to the sink and started washing it for me and panicked for a bit before telling people to go get the nurse before laughing at the situation and going
"Why didn't you make a scene??"
And I just shrugged and he just went
"You don't have to be scared of me"
And from that day on, I never hid any injury from him again. Ended up trusting him more than I did the school nurse after that encounter.

My dad got me one of those shrill protective alarm things for Christmas except the thing with that one is that the string part of it is what makes it go off. You’d think it would be the massive button on it to set it off, no, you have to yank the string out of the little machine and it is the LOUDEST thing I have ever heard. I can’t imagine what that had to be like. That’d be so hysterically mortifying and shocking, I don’t know what I’d do if that happened to me in class. 😖

The second one is too relatable! I'm a fashion student and while i was freehand machine embroidering, I accidentally sewed through my finger! oAo The freehand foot is higher off the fabric than the straight presser foot so you can move your fabric more easily, and it's really easy to catch your finger against it...That's what I thought had happened until the yellow thread I was embroidering with started turning orange and the girl working on the machine next to me pointed out that I was bleeding all over the shirt I was working on ;;;. I'd managed to sew through my finger just above where my fingernail ends...Thankfully the rule was that if the needle didn't break off and/or if it went straight through, you wouldn't need to go to the hospital, so I basically had to rinse the blood off my hands, then walk down 5 flights of stairs from the studio to the ground floor to ask the first-aid desk for a bandaid LOL
I managed to fix the shirt too and hide the bloodstain so everything turned out okay LOL

But my first thought wasnt "oh no my phone is ringing!"

    • @lillianbvalley5548
      @lillianbvalley5548 6 років тому +3

Chris Clarke I don't do much animation, but after watching other people I suggest using references to draw things, and trace over them if you need to. If you're also having problems doing smooth movements, try drawing your character before, after, or during the movement, then in the animation software draw in any lines you think you need to smoothly connect the picture. Think of it as sort of connecting the dots, it may help you get the animation where you want it to go with a clear and easy path to follow. Don't hesitate to take notes on how you want parts to move, too! And have as many layers as you need. Don't animate everything on one layer, you want to be able to move different parts without the worry of messing up another part of the animation. I hope I helped you!

I cut my hand open with one of those blades, as well.. .but mine happened at work and I had to go to the er because a fountain of blood went into the air like something out of a cartoon. I ended up being rushed to the ER because I had to get stitches. The flashbacks are horrifying. Thank goodness it was not my drawing hand. Interesting to know I watch an artist who has gone through bad cuts too :')
