- Are you riding a sportive or gran fondo packed with killer climbs? Want some tips and advice from a climbing expert? I jumped on a call with Simon Warren, author of the popular 100 Climbs books, to get some tips on how best to ride an event packed with climbs. Like the Fred Whitton Challenge I'm doing next weekend!

David good luck, enjoy!
Outstanding content. Do more of this!
OMG. I did the Dave Lloyd Mega Challenge. Glad you mentioned it. Part of me thought I had dreamt it because no one else has heard of it. It poured down all day. Took so long.
Second up the hill ❤
Great video, Dave
Thanks 👍
See you at the Fred (hopefully say hello this time) :)
Ah enjoy some of my club mates are doing again.
Can't say I saw many out the saddle going up Hardknot (while I walked up it). In the rain that would be even more interesting. As for being the equal of the Marmotte, that Telegraph, Galibier combo is a LOT of climbing and often in 30 degrees plus. All opinions of course and an interesting listen. Good luck with the Fred, David.
Everyone fixed on 'good times' - use your own stopwatch for cycle time not vertifcate times. It is only ever about how honest you are. Does having a 15min cup of tea and chat with famliy discount the other 8hours on the bike? Anyone everyone enjoy and keep safe. Cycle the Nation has done some great videos for the descents.
1. Push your Fitness level over the limit
2. Cadence stroking technique
3. Never ending altitude trainings
4. Then you realize this is too brutal and unhealthy for your body to absorb.
First!
I don't get the hate for having your nutrition for the whole event with you, depending on the event the feedstation don't have gels or have stuff you can't handle, and honestly carrying 2kg more will only cost you a bit over 1 minute on a 10km 8% climb, depending on your power, not getting proper nutrition or getting stuck in the feedzone will cost you way more....
So basically you just talked about racing around the Fred Whitton sportive...
Thanks for the heads up. 10 minutes in, and I was getting suspicious I was wasting my time, as I've no intention of ever doing it.
No they didn't!
They spoke about surviving and enjoying it (if that's possible).
No - and I don't know why anyone would want to do so much climbing......There's no skill, all about fitness. The descents are where it's at.......a true test of skill.
Any smart person would do it on an E-bike........
