Her lower register takes her into Elvis territory. Many might not know that Elvis sang this and actually first began singing 'Gospel'. Never heard a young girl being able to sing continuously in this low, low range until Angelina did this.

It's also why she doesn't usually try for the ridiculously high notes that many pop singers can reach (sopranos, of course). It's also the reason her cover of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" was such a stretch for her. BTW: she gets down to a C3 in this, but I don't think she ever gets to a B. And her D3 early on is remarkably solid (note that most altos can only reach an E3, or maybe even F3). She looks maybe 12 years old here, so if this isn't amazing enough imagine 10 years from now (after she's been through her final voice change). Where will the bottom of her range be then?!
Yes. Agreed on all counts. The lowest note here actually sounds a bit lower than C3 to me, but closer to that than a B2. I think she was actually trying to come up from _below_ the note, as crazy as that sounds. I believe this was done with Ivan, which, if true, would definitely make her 12. (In his interview with Alan Papier, he said they only worked together for a few months, and he mentioned "the Elvis song" without being more specific, which could refer to "Always on My Mind" or to this one, since he did well known covers of both songs. But if he was referring to AOMM, which I think is very likely, there's still a chance he played on this one, because he mentioned that "about 10" of the songs they did together had not been released [to his knowledge], so this might be one of those. At the time, this refactored version of HGTA had only been out for a few months and the original upload disappeared shortly after it was posted [plus, IIRC, it was posted to the Fanclub Mosarz channel, which he didn't even know was run by her family, so he wouldn't have been following closely what was being posted there], so that might explain why he didn't know it had been posted.)

She opened the concert and imho was the best performer there by a large margin. You should check out his enhanced versions of her singing in concerts. Without Boris we would be missing a major chunk of her early stuff! Enjoy!

I listened to this when it was uploaded on her grandma’s channel, around Christmas/New Year 2019, and Angelina said it was a greeting to her fans for the new year. Note that Angelina has a long neck due to her height (estimated as 6' give or take an inch) and may have a larger larynx (i.e., voice box) than the average woman. (1) Angelina is probably a contralto with the possibility of singing at a higher level. A contralto is what the lowest female singing voice is called. This vocal range is rare. The range typically falls between the F below middle C (F3 in scientific pitch notation) to the second F above middle C (F5), although, at the extremes, some voices can reach the D below middle C (D3) or the second B♭ above middle C (B♭5). Since Angelina has made so many covers of many types of songs, it may be possible to determine her effective singing range, or the range she is willing to comfortably sing within. This would require analyzing the notes she sang across the spectrum of songs she has sung and published. (2) So where does Angelina's beautiful voice come from? Let us go over how a voice is produced per a summary of tutorials provided by the National Center for Voice and Speech. The NCVS conducts research, educates vocologists, disseminates information about voice and speech, and provides referral services to help people around the world enjoy healthy and effective vocal communications. The NCVS has a nice tutorial on voice production based upon their book "Principles of Voice Production" which goes into scientific detail that they said should include knowledge of basic acoustics and some familiarity of college physics. (3) The human voice is classified into various types, based on pitch, timbre, and various other factors that influence our perception of someone's voice, or how that voice can be used. It appears that one critical aspect of voice production has to do with one's fundamental frequency (i.e., Fo). Baby cries have a Fo of around 500 Hz (roughly corresponding to the note B4). Child speech ranges from 250-400 Hz (notes B3 to G4). Adult females tend to speak at around 200 Hz on average (about G3), and adult males around 125 Hz (or, B2). (4) As one would probably assume, one's larynx is quite important to voice production. The larynx is the hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs and holding the vocal cords in humans and other mammals. It sits at the back of the throat, above the windpipe (trachea). The larynx is supported by rings of cartilage, which in men (and occasionally a woman) form the bump of the Adam's apple. The vocal cords are stretchy bands of tissue attached to the inside of the larynx. Air passing in and out of the lungs is pushed through these cords. Everyone's larynx grows during puberty, but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does. In fact, a man's larynx grows roughly 40% larger (taller and in length) than does a woman's larynx. This larger larynx gives men deeper voices than woman. But there is a tad more involved than just the size of one's larynx. (5) Note that the 40% size difference of the larynx between men and women does not account for the roughly 60% difference in production of the Fo. Thus, there must be something else. The key variable is the length of the part of the vocal folds within the larynx that is in vibration, which is called the effective vocal fold length. The difference here between men and women is about 60% and we have some indication of where the pitch difference comes from. (6) Along with pitch, another variable used to classify voices is their quality, or timbre. Timbre is related to the length of the vocal tract. Different vocalists have different vocal tract lengths. To a limited degree singers can control the tract length by raising or lowering the larynx. A longer tract results in a 'darker'-sounding voice, while shorter tracts will make the voice sound 'brighter'. Note that the length of the vocal tract is largely determined by nature. Some of us are born with necks that are swan-like, while others are quite short. (7) So, it appears that Angelina has been gifted with height and both a longer neck and possibly a larger larynx than the average woman. She thus has lower pitch to be able to produce a lower Fo, plus has a longer vocal track to produce a 'darker'-sounding voice. Add to this the fantastic breath control and a wonderful sense of musicality, and one has a singing prodigy. We all are fortunate to be alive to witness such a rare combination that, in my opinion, is producing a new singing genius. Contralto - Contralto and alto originally referred to the same voice. But some people today use “contralto” to refer to a female voice that is even lower than a typical alto

I understand why she might have removed it from her channel. Some of the phrasing was not quite perfect, I think, and she missed a low note (ran out of voice) at one point. Maybe should have gone for a second take! That aside, her two choruses of "Now sing my soul" were exquisite, which more than makes up for any blemishes.
Dom, thank you for the genuine amazement that accompanies the beautiful interpretation of Angelina. This slow and measured version of her, but so emotional and heartfelt, moves me every time I listen to her again, even if I'm not a believer. She makes me float, detaching me from the ground and always leaves me suspended between the notes of her voice. She has done the Willie Nelson Patsy Cline song Crazy where she spends a lot of time in lower, not as deep but she definitely uses that lower reg to blend her voice to match.
Where is she at? She's where Elvis was at! I think on the same key Elvis sang it at...? It took me several times to be able to actually hear this. Then one day my gut went with it and my heart opened up to this outrageous prayer done exactly this way. I don't know why she did it and don't know how I got to loving it but I do love it now .. and deeply. (no pun intended but hey .. pun nonetheless!) All I know is that if I close my eyes, I totally get the devotion in a clear and true way. Amazing. (Confession: it took me a few more time before I could take the little girl "Bye!" at the end .. but even that I love now .. and wait for it.)

Mahalia Jackson was and still is the greatest gospel singer in the world. My mother used to play her albums when I was in grade school and That Old Rugged Cross was my favorite. I’m a 72 year old white guy and I bought a CD set of every one of her songs years ago. As for this performance by Angelina I can diffidently hear her doing a gospel album and taking over that whole segment.

It appears that one critical aspect of voice production has to do with one's fundamental frequency (i.e., Fo). Baby cries have a Fo of around 500 Hz (roughly corresponding to the note B4). Child speech ranges from 250-400 Hz (notes B3 to G4). Adult females tend to speak at around 200 Hz on average (about G3), and adult males around 125 Hz (or, B2). (4) As one would probably assume, one's larynx is quite important to voice production. The larynx is the hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs and holding the vocal cords in humans and other mammals. It sits at the back of the throat, above the windpipe (trachea). The larynx is supported by rings of cartilage, which in men (and occasionally a woman) form the bump of the Adam's apple. The vocal cords are stretchy bands of tissue attached to the inside of the larynx. Air passing in and out of the lungs is pushed through these cords. Everyone's larynx grows during puberty, but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does. In fact, a man's larynx grows roughly 40% larger (taller and in length) than does a woman's larynx. This larger larynx gives men deeper voices than woman. But there is a tad more involved than just the size of one's larynx. (5) Note that the 40% size difference of the larynx between men and women does not account for the roughly 60% difference in production of the Fo. Thus, there must be something else. The key variable is the length of the part of the vocal folds within the larynx that is in vibration, which is called the effective vocal fold length. The difference here between men and women is about 60% and we have some indication of where the pitch difference comes from. (6) Along with pitch, another variable used to classify voices is their quality, or timbre. Timbre is related to the length of the vocal tract. Different vocalists have different vocal tract lengths. To a limited degree singers can control the tract length by raising or lowering the larynx. A longer tract results in a 'darker'-sounding voice, while shorter tracts will make the voice sound 'brighter'. Note that the length of the vocal tract is largely determined by nature. Some of us are born with necks that are swan-like, while others are quite short. (7) So, it appears that Angelina has been gifted with height and both a longer neck and possibly a larger larynx than the average woman. She thus has lower pitch to be able to produce a lower Fo, plus has a longer vocal track to produce a 'darker'-sounding voice. Add to this the fantastic breath control and a wonderful sense of musicality, and one has a singing prodigy. We all are fortunate to be alive to witness such a rare combination that, in my opinion, is producing a new singing genius.

I understand why she might have removed it from her channel. Some of the phrasing was not quite perfect, I think, and she missed a low note (ran out of voice) at one point. Maybe should have gone for a second take! That aside, her two choruses of "Now sing my soul" were exquisite, which more than makes up for any blemishes.

It took me several times to be able to actually hear this. Then one day my gut went with it and my heart opened up to this outrageous prayer done exactly this way. Mahalia Jackson was and still is the greatest gospel singer in the world. My mother used to play her albums when I was in grade school and That Old Rugged Cross was my favorite. I’m a 72 year old white guy and I bought a CD set of every one of her songs years ago.
As for this performance by Angelina I can diffidently hear her doing a gospel album and taking over that whole segment.
