Wow. U not only travel. But also educate us. Even I, Indonesian, still didnt know about some things about Bogor botanical garden but after I watch this video, I know that. Thanks. Fun Facts: Bogor Palace used to be a 3-story building housing riches plundered from across the archipelago. Then sometimes it collapsed due to earthquake caused by nearby Salak Mountain eruption, destroying everything inside, from the precious artefacts taken from across the archipelago to the European antiques imported directly from Europe. So they decide to build sturdy single-storeyed building in anticipation of future earthquakes, and reduced it from a Palace to a Villa.
I was amazed at the diversity in the Botanical Gardens and the little research I did do really helped me appreciate the many years and dedication that so many people had put into creating such an amazing place.
@@TravelwithSimon sorry, Simon. Bornean here. You can find several species of Rafflesia here in Borneo, but I don't think Rafflesia arnoldii is one of them. I know that Indonesia's neighbors like to claim that they have the largest flower in the world, but if we want to be precise, then it's not just any kind of Rafflesia. The fact is Rafflesia arnoldii is the species with largest single flower of any flowering plant in the world.
Initially this botanical garden was created by Prabu Siliwangi (the king of Sunda Kingdom) between 1474 - 1513 ,it was meant to be a man made forest .......in the mid 18th century the Banten Sultanate took over .......then in early 1800 when Britain reigned ,Thomas Stamford Raffles (Governor General) ,lived there ,and developed the forest into a garden .........in 1817 after the Dutch defeated England ,and Philip van der Capellen became the Governor General ,he collected all sorts of plants around the area and planted them in the garden .....he then invited the minister of agriculture ,Prof.C.G.Karl Reinwardt ( a German scientist who became Dutch nationality) in 1817 ......Reinwardt collected more plants ,especially those which are used as traditional medicine ,he made a research until 1822.......but research and study kept on going by many other European scientist ,also Japanese scientist (1943-1945) ........in 1951 Prof.Ir. Koestono Setijowiryo ,manages and collects plants from all over Indonesia and also from other countries ......now this garden holds more than 2200 botanical species.....
