Spoiler! If I'm remember right, the timeline for original Cale was after he made a deal with God of Death. Original Cale's death was cause by the war with White Star. He volunteer to go to war to revenge for his family. While in the battlefield, he saw White Star said to Choi Han about the fact to time around him was twist. That is when original Cale realize that White Star had his mother's power because in the past, his mother did talk about she could see something that could determine their life and death, I don't really remember that part. She also did said that original Cale had "time" twist around him (Cale's mother did not said time, I think it's something relate to wood but also work the same at time), which would happen in the futute because the deal happen between orginal Cale and the god of Death. After that, original Cale was die because of the war, meet the God of Death, had a deal where original Cale switch body with Rok Soo in the past at the time before he meet Choi Han, in exchange original Cale would know the true behind mother's death (which was because she took off her Ancient Power by break her plate). So if the timeline for original Cale was after the deal between him and God of Death, that mean he already know his mother had Ancient Power (kinda suspicious that original Cale already know before the war because his mother talk about it sometime. Tho, I'm not too sure that he just know but don't think about it much. But it's certain that he know his mother had Ancient Power after heard the conversation between Choi Han and White Star) and also know the reason behind his mother's death which mean original Cale wouldn't surprise as he see his mother had Ancient Power. In fact, the thing he didn't had right now is theory on why Harris Village being target by White Star as it's was after he switching body and read "The Birth of a Hero", he see and read "the Birth of a Hero" because Rok Soo was read it before the switch. I don't really remember original Cale know that his mother in Rok Soo's world was after or when he still work on the deal with God of Death because I think original Cale did had another condition to the deal aside from know the reason behind his mother's death. Basically, back on Earth, Kim Rok Soo’s friends (pretty much family) died and he kinda blamed himself because they died protecting him. It didn’t help that the God Of Death told him that he was the only one supposed to die, not his friends. Throughout the novel you can see how that affected him, he’s willing to cough up blood and faint, stab himself in the heart, as long as no one else gets hurt it’s fine, one of his worst fears is that he’d be the only one to survive again, stuff like that.
