I bought an OG Gameboy yesterday and ever since then ive been searching for Gameboy lights which was racking my brain, then i came across this vid and it solved all my problems which is half or even a quarter of the price of these actual Gameboy lights so cheers buddy 🙏🏽You might not see this comment which is 8 years later 😂
Nice, I prefer this to front light mods, those destroy the contrast and colors. The only better alternatives are a GBA 101 (hard to find in Europe, and expensive) or a GB Boy Colour.
ShadowUmbreon I love my GB boy colour, I modded mine. GBA D pad and rubber pad from it. GBC rubber pads for the buttons, and a custom screen protector I made from a iPhone 6+ screen protector. Also custom painted with a charizard theme . It turns heads when I bring it out. lol
I really like this better than backlit/frontlit mod, especially for original dmg and pocket. When mod these, it will remove 'retro feeling', remove the nostalgia feeling of dot matrix display, because everytime i played on dmg or pocket i just imagining played game on old calculator but with bigger display with sound, or feeling when play "game & watch" old handheld. Backlit/frontlit mod only better with later generation like gameboy color and original gameboy advance
DMG backlight mods are pretty easy to set up and don't mess with the original hardware too much, GBC and GBA backlights on the other hand involve physical work on the shells of the consoles (some people will take issue with this) and, in the case of GBC ones, they involve using glue to hold the shell together. I've given up on backlights now and worm lights are the way to go imho, get some eneloops and you're set
If I remember correctly they actually made a light that plugs in directly to your Gameboy color at the top connector and it does exactly the same thing, albeit not as bright.
Cool idea. Just one question. Is the backlit GameBoy biverted or not? It seems a bit washed out, I installed bivert module on mine and it has much better contrast. Thanks.
@@KenVersus Yeah I backlit/biverted few of them, but IPS v2 displays are the way to go. 5 times the price of backlight, but worth every dime in my opinion. :) Thank you.
There's a few kinks. The led light it self is STUPID bright so say if your playing in public and at night. it would look kinda weird. Backlight Screen mods usually look way better and sharper, also it might look kinda bad because you're using an original Game Boy (take that with a grain of salt). Look at this video from The 8-Bit Guy and you'll see what I mean, he uses a Game Boy Color. ua-cam.com/video/WG8loyh-kFw/v-deo.html And yes modding the system is a little hard, especially if you hadn't done it before. And one more thing about the Game Boy that's in the Description... THAT'S ILLEGAL!!! Yah, I know there's a bunch of clones of old systems and that's fine, but when this has UNLICENSED ROM PRE-INSTALLED ONTO IT, that's ILLEGAL. The GB Boy Colour has versions of it without unlicensed roms on it... YOU SHOULD GIVE LINKS TO THOSE. Some people like the GB Boy Colour better than any Game Boy (not including GBA) because it has a GREAT backlight. So why have links to all of the other stuff when you can go and just get a GB Boy Colour for below $40.00.

Hey, glad this idea worked out for you. Enjoy the gameboy!
Oh my god, thank you! I really don't want to mod my gbc and this solution is even better then front light!
When you said dual lock I thought of DuLoc from Shrek
Nice work using the dual lock, that's smart
That looks great, i wouldn't like to ruin the original console's hardware.
Excellent idea! Im going to do it for my original GBA.. i only need the light cos i already have the battery pack.
Really great idea! I have done backlighting and front lights but this is a super simple and inexpensive way to do that
great great idea for people who don't wanna break or mod the console! really like it!

Ruben MV if you bivert it and ass backlight the contrast is amazing

I actually had one of them. But they were very dim. But back in the day any light was better than nothing.
True
Yes, but this mod is a much better light: it covers the whole screen. Also those pluggable lights cannot be used for the original DMG Gameboy
Cool idea. Just one question. Is the backlit GameBoy biverted or not? It seems a bit washed out, I installed bivert module on mine and it has much better contrast. Thanks.
No it's not biverted in the video, but I have upgraded it to a new modern screen now.

I have them for my gameboy color and dmg now too. They are very nice.
That's a great idea, although, I would hope the power bank doesn't overheat the Game Boy being so close to it
Try that led on a gba
Where did you get that game boy pocket shell???
+Daniel Valdelamar hi it's a clear case that I painted white.
What size for the dual lock exactly?, on amazon I see 1 x 10 ft, 1 x 6 ft etc, that specific listing in the description is gone.
1inch by 6ft should be more than enough.
@@KenVersus Oh crap, I got 5 inch X 1 inch, I'm sure that'll work too though right?
Does it work for the gbc
Yes it does
Can you do the same thing but with the original GBA?
Yes. That will work too
this is pretty neat, i might try it out uvu
Another question: how long does the light last connected to that battery fully charged?
Nevermind. I just read the description of the video. LOL Thanks!
Yeah it's a long time. 10 hours or more pending on the power draw of the led.
Thanks man
the one my game color came with led light but it sucked i got my game boy color back in xmas 2000
What is the case do on your gbp?
It was a clear case that I spray painted white from the inside.
love
Has anyone tried this with the original GBA?
Yes it works with gba
Or buy a worm light on Amazon for 7 bucks that plugs into the gb
The original worm light doesn't produce as much light as this, it's globe's weak in comparison
Has anyone modded a worm light with a modern, brighter LED?
Yes i did it and it works really well
@@williamdowning3857 with what LED and where did you get it from?
My light plug broke so easly

Just get a gameboy light from japan or a modded dmg. This is ghetto
It works lol and doesn't drain your as batteries
When you realize you could buy a modded Game boy
