There's the problem. Hoda says, "How do you keep them from hating you?" Parents need to be less concerned with their kids hating them. Once you worry about being your kids friend, you lose the parent battle. I used to say to my kids, "I am not your friend. I am your mother. You have enough friends." Being their "friend" comes later in life.

Our girls had no phones until after the age of 16 and no online content either. I addressed the dangers of how wide and vast the net is and the predators, being open and honest and giving them tools is the only way. Funnily enough they are hardly ever on the socials as adults 28 and 26 now.. they are more social and go out with friends.. I’m so glad we stayed strong and tough!

Good for her! None of my teenagers have had social media and they’ve been awesome about it. Why don’t we let them have it, because we truly love them and care about them and it’s my job as their mother to try and guide them and help them the best I can. My current 16 year old son asks every now and then and we just simply tell him it’s pointless and not good. He gripes a little but he knows it’s true, so he thankfully doesn’t put up a fight.

That is so true I have a son that just graduated high school and a daughter that’s going to be a junior they never had social media. Neither did I or my husband and they are so thankful. Especially my daughter she thinks me every day. 🙏🏽
It's not good for ANYONE. I haven't been on social media (IG, FB, TikTok, Snap, etc) for 4 months now and it's amazing how much my life has changed for the better.
I remember 12 years ago, 2012....Social Media was a more safe place than today...Of course we all used it smart...But now, negativity is everywhere...I'm an adult who cannot stand how much people bully everyone online...For their looks, style...people are bullies online and in person...It's scary, I don't remember seeing any hate comments in 2012...

I couldn't agree with her more and plan on doing the same with my kids when I have them. There is nothing positive about social media and it's ruining everyone. I myself have been off all Facebook and other social media for 5 years and it has improved my mental and emotional health.

Noone as self-conscious as young teens should have access to the entire world ..
Mine got phones when they could afford to do pre-paid on their own. After they proved to themselves and to me that they were responsible enough to handle it, then I started buying them minutes for b'days and Christmas, Easter.... They learned how to manage, and prioritize the time they had available.
I agree with her 💯 there needs to be a limit and let the kids be kids before getting addicted like everyone else is!

Her kids are little and it makes sense to keep them away from media trash. Also because of all the negative comments and articles written of their parents relationship and Jennifer Lopez. Kids should not be poisoned with trash. 🥰
To add to this: This also applies for screen exposure for children under the age of 2! It modifies a child's ability to distinguish reality from fiction, AND it rewires the reward center of their brain before they even have the opportunity to decide for themselves what they actually enjoy.
So with her. Just say no. It is your responsibility

Kids are wired to beg and plead. I think parents forget that it’s our literal job to make decisions that are in their best interest. I don’t understand why it’s so hard to not let your middle schoolers have social media. The ones that do have so many more social problems and do more poorly in school.
My daughter is only allowed to play Roblox for a certain amount of time. She is not allowed FB, TikTok or Snapchat. We did have a talk about the dangers of social media. It’s ruining kids today. I wish life was like it was in 1990 where people talked on the phone and at dinner time.
I just told my sons no phones until it is absolutely necessary and you have jobs and can buy them yourself. Social media has never been a big deal to my sons. 😜
