Can't wait for your tunic sew-a-long! I've felt my purchase of The Tunic Bible had been one of my worst sewing purchases for all the reasons you pointed out. You have created a gorgeous tunic and I'm so relieved there may be a resolution to my buyer's remorse. Thank you!
It looks really lovely Janine and I agree with you about wearing drab colours in winter, it's depressing. I live in the sub tropics in Australia where it's bright and sunny most winter days but the stores are full of horrible dark drab clothing. I started sewing for myself two years ago and last year made a bright pink, long, Harper cardigan jacket to wear in the winter. I love it and it brightened up my outfits and my mood every time I wore it. Now I wear colourful outfits all year round and I'm so much happier being me.❤
The trim is a great look. Love that you found this trim and placed it in 2 places that make your tunic looks really great. Great fit. Love your happy dance too😊
Janine, your tunic is gorgeous! It fits you so well and the elongating neckline is very flattering. The fabric and colors in it are so very attractive on you. I love the velvet trim. Perfection, Janine! Yes, it seems the older I get, the less tolerant I am of the long hours of darkness and cold. As a point of interest, around Christmas time we get approximately 8 hours of daylight. I love happy colors for winter. Hang onto that pattern. Happy sewing! 🥰Bernadette
I love your tunic. That fabric is so pretty. I prefer the ribbon trim exactly the way you used it. I haven't done any garment sewing in years. This is very inspiring Thank you
Pretty tunic for the cooler months, my favorite colors too! The only thing that I would change on my body, is the length of the front slit. It looks to me that it is cut deep. The trim made your tunic very dressy, your husband has a great imagination.
Beautiful tunic! Love your husband story because my husband of 38 years is now learning how to help me measure myself. While we were watching The Voice with so many singers experimenting with finding their style very publicly, he even learned what it means to say "Wow, that (fill in the blank) is sure wearing them." Good bless the sweeties of sewists! 😊
Wonderful make Janine. Those are some of my favourite colours. Now I’m concerned about your comments about grey! I made my tunic in tone on tone greys! But I love it and I hope you do too. See ya tomorrow. ❤ 17:37
Thanks for the inspiration. That book has been on my bookcase for 10 years. I know what you mean about the weather in the PNW. We call these months "The Big Dark.". It forces you to get to all those projects inside.
Janine, I live in your city and so glad you have a sewing channel! I remember when the book was published (two sewists). You made it your bible now. This looks fabulous (color & fabric) on you and looking forward to more interpretations. Will check out Rick Rack.
I Love how nice your tunic turned out. I am also someone who bought that book but never used it. I will be following along with your sew with me. Your fabric choice is very flattering on you and I love the ribbon you added.
That corduroy is just gorgeous - you would never guess what it is from a distance in terms of the kind of fabric - the ribbon is the perfect touch, too! You'll be warm and pretty - can't beat that. I'm hoping to get to the Tunic Bible after Christmas - everything is going to happen after Christmas...😄! My friends and I who are retired are all so busy we wonder how we found time to get things done when we worked. Well, there wasn't much sewing going on then, for one thing...
Mary, what I wonder is how people manage with a job, kids, partner, house and yard. And some of them cook and sew too! 😂 I still can’t manage to keep the house clean AND cook.
Beautiful tunic! Thanks for sharing the changes and choices you made. You could just do a hidden hem stitch for the plaquette. placket? However you spell it... :) If it were a solid color, you could do a decorative top stitch.
You did a great job with the tunic. I love the colors and the pattern. I want to make a tunic . However right now with all the medical things I’m going through and possibility of surgery I’m keeping it simple. Just finished altering a skirt pattern and I’ll probably cut out a muslin tomorrow.
I have that book also, but I've made several very similar tunics, all using cotton fabric, with See and Sew pattern B5548, which may no longer be in print. I also have Kwik Sew K3870, and Simplicity S9130 which I have not yet tried. I have been reticent about attempting the book pattern, so I will look forward to your video.
I actually cut out a sleeveless tunic yesterday…the cut out fabric (with interfaced pieces), and the pattern are currently in a garbage bag waiting for deliverance. Even though it was viscose or rayon forget which one (I really hate both) when I picked it out of the remnant bin the fabric content said “mystery fabric” after cutting it out the endless slipping and sliding… I was already sick of it bur soldiered on . When I thought it was finally done using allot of fabric Tetris (pattern called for 2.4m…I had 1.8) I realized I only had one set of front placket and NO MORE FABRIC except teeny tiny scraps. About ten pm I WAS DONE and had to get it out of my sight hence the garbage bag for it including the new look pattern… but as I’m sitting here away from my condo I’m rethinking it…. Going over my stash in my head thinking there might be a save in an alternative fabric mashup in my scrap bin. The print on the fabric is just weird enough it might need to be saved…. Somehow
Your tunic is beautiful Janine. I love the velvet trim you added and your husband nailed it with the suggestion of adding it to the collar.
Loving your tunic and the fabric colors are very vibrant … FIESTA 🎉 🧵 🪡
Tunic absolute home run, very feminine and pretty!

This tunic is perhaps the most favorite thing you have ever made!!! The trim is just what it needed and I particularly like the neckline.
Those colors are beautiful on you!
Janine, I love the fabric you chose to make your tunic. The ribbon trim is "just enough". Great make!

Hi Janine, your tunic is fabulous and the material you chose is just perfect. I am happy to hear you are enjoying retirement. 🌸
You're too kind! I'm finally able to sew more!
Your tunic is beautiful, Janine!
Your tunic is beautiful. Maybe a purple turtleneck on the cold days to cover your wrists would work.❤
My goodness! This tunic looks amazing on you!!!
Wonderful make Janine. Those are some of my favourite colours. Now I’m concerned about your comments about grey! I made my tunic in tone on tone greys! But I love it and I hope you do too. See ya tomorrow. ❤ 17:37

Your tunic is very becoming on you. I agree, I'm so over gray. Enough already!😅
Gorgeous fabric, pattern suits you very well.

The ribbon was an afterthought! I didn't think it would work, but I'm happy with the result.

Thank you for sharing, the tunic fit and color looks great on you. I was excited when I got the book but I have never made a garment.
That looks absolutely gorgeous on you
Thank you so much!
❤❤❤
You should probably run back and get some of the red ribbon for your stash! You never know….
