Thyagaraja swami in this requests Lord Rama to keep him close by appointing him as his royal guard! Hamsanadam is an exclusive audava ragam, with 5 notes and does not contain gandharam and dhaivatam, as it is sung in current days and thus it is a janya of 60th Melakarta Neetimati. In olden days shatsruti dhaivatam(D3) was there in the scale compared to current usage (that is,shadava scale with 6 notes in ascending and descending scale), with a vakra prayoga (zig-zag) descending scale! Here, Mahati did present a good recital with a brief Raagalapana, a beautiful niraval @ raama naama mane vara khadga mivi n swarom . She maintained a high tempo throughout as entailed by the Keerthanam with a balanced tone. , never raised voice while the singing hauled forward!!!
Thank you very much Sir for expressing your in depth knowledge on the subject.
Very Good Analysis. Yes. In the olden days, Dhaivatam was also there. I believe , Hamsanadam of old notes is far more pleasing and divine.
SUPERB MS. MAHATHI. YOU ARE NEW TO ME. WATCHING YOU ON "BHAJAN SAMRATILE" ON SHANKARA TV. HEARD YOU FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. GREAT VOICE & WONDERFUL SINGING. YOU LOOK VERY PRETTY AS WELL. MeenaC
