- At least two hundred companies in the UK are now doing this - and they're not even cutting workers' pay.
Around 5-thousand people will take home the same salary - with the vast majority working a 32 hour week - rather than 40 hours.

An extra day off will help the economy. Giving people more time to go out, shop, travel, and so on. When the Saturday was first given back to workers. It gave a huge growth to the economy.
My God where do these callers come from? The level of debate is like a conversation with a typical The S(c)um reader. "I didn't work 4 days a week so I don't think anyone else should" 🙄
These people are idiots… everyone can do a 4 day week… You just have the company employ people on alternative shifts. Maybe the issue with the country is how utterly stupid some people are and not how “productive” workers are.
I agree I see this myself where you have part time workers but they dont do a rota so then they end up with shortages. Like use a rota system to plan out so that theres always 2 people for the 5 days. Common sense is like deodorant nowdays those who need it most never seem to use it 😂
You've hit the nail on the head. This country suffers from gargantuan levels of idiocy.
We are undereducated. A minority of people are smart and sail through school and the biased, rather easy curriculum.
The majority struggle, especially from illiteracy- google the figures.
School fails these people by not teaching them how to read and analyse. They want the population stupid enough to be placid in the face of exploitative injustice, so they are dumbly happy to be cogs in the capitalist machine, making massive sums of money for their overlords while they scrape a meagre existence. And they're too stupid to see the exploitation.
In school basic things like politics, economics, ethics and philosophy...anything designed to enable people to understand the world, are completely ignored in favour of brainwashing kids into thinking we are the best nation on earth, drumming in past 'glories' of the empire and teaching about kings and Queens, and telling people we won the war by ourselves.
It's an epidemic of undereducated stupidity, that leaves people voting against their own interests time and time again, and nothing will change unless we revolutionise the school system. It will never happen.
I work for myself so I don't care. Leave the plebs to bow and scrape to their masters if they're so desperate to work five days a week. Maybe get rid of weekends too, to INCREASE their happiness since they seem to enjoy it so much.
How does drinking come into this? If someone can't control their drinking surely it doesn't matter how many days they work?

Companies have already started this already and it is working just like remote works.
If the business can make it work then i dont see why not. You spend your ehole life at work and i dont see why an extra day to spend with your friends and family is a bad thing.
Condensed working hours will decrease sickness (I.e long terms stress) and give families a better work life balance - similar to other European countries. Perfectly practical if rotas are done correctly.
I work in a large supermarket chain and currently work Monday to Friday with weekends off, I have perviously done a four day work week from Monday to Thursday

Still need 40 hours a week just to stand Still. So I would need to work 10 hours a day to earn enough to live
So if they could have done this job in 4 days why were they making it last 5 . Maybe this says it all
Because people have to pace themselves. I could likely push myself to do most of my work in 4 days. I wouldn't push myself to do it in 4 days though if I then had to do a 5th day as I would burn myself out.

Working from home isn't a proper job how can you run a department from home and not be there it's ridiculous
Oh yeh we have a massive productivity problem in the uk so let's reduce the working week to 4 days. That should do the trick 💪 while this may work for some people in an office environment just imagine people who do physically demanding jobs. While this may work for some people in office jobs imagine what this will be like for people who work physical jobs
