The newer models (I.E. 2016 model i just did) is all electronic, everything is in the strut piece itself, however you do have to loosen thos side panels to trace the connnection to the module that runs it. Much easier, no messy hydrolic lines to deal with and slightly less panels to remove to get your hands where you need them but overall same concept

Wow so if this feature goes out. Can you just manually override and use like a standard lift gate?
I bet u could. Just pull the pumped strut off and put a regular strut in its place. Might be a good idea to unplug the electric plug at the pump unit.
Did you top off with hydraulic fluid?
No fluid was lost, not 1 drop. New unit is precharged.
