Definitely go back in the summer to get the full experience. I've been playing there since it opened in the mid-90s. Still looks great though you've got those houses now on some holes. Those weren't there back in the day.
Yeah for sure will come back during peak season. Def want to see how this plays from 6700yds compared to the 6200 I played. Think some of the tee boxes will change this course completelyyyyyt hah!

RNK is somehow the hardest golf course I have ever played, and the most fun. It might be my favorite, beating out places like Harbor Town and Copperhead.

Live in Northern VA and work occasionally in Richmond. Love this course and its sister course Viniterra, in the same general area. I joined their Associate Member Club because I know I'll be playing both courses a lot over the next year. Glad you got to get out there but suggest you get out there during the warmer months!
Royal New Kent is an awesome course. Hopefully you will get out to Stonehouse in 2025 for the other Mike Strantz course in VA

@@MarkEresGolfYou mentioned that Viniterra is RNK’s sister course, well that’s a relatively new thing. RNK, Stonehouse, Brickshire and The Crossings used to all be “sister” courses under the same ownership…Tradition Club Golf Properties I believe, but that group of courses later separated. (Viniterra didn’t even exist at that time). You MUST play both Brickshire(which you likely passed on your way to RNK) and Stonehouse.

Mark 😀 you made it down. Glad you got it in this year. I highly suggest going back between May - September to get the real look and feel of the course. My next suggestion for you is right out in Winchester. Rock Harbor (Boulder Course), excellent scenery and challenging course. Not too far from BlueRidge Shadows.
Yeah there’s a few in Winchester area I def need to check out. Sly fox has been a popular mention too. Winchester a little bit of a hike but I’ll figure it out. Cheers to ya!

Horse was even cooler with the government fairways looks like the growing out there. I cannot wait to get down to the Richmond Williamsburg area to play Royal New Kent independence, Kiskiak and others.
Living in Central Md I’ve learned to bring my electric drill with a 3” drill bit for frozen tees.
Spring Creek is a must play provided it has not changed from semi-private to private.
@MarkEresGolf You should have played Brickshire while you were there, the courses are right beside each other. Brick is equally as interesting, one of its par 3’s was once called the most difficult par 3 in VA (from the tips) and hole 18 was ranked as the prettiest hole in VA.
By the way, you had some lucky pin placement on that day, believe me it could have been much worse.

It's so stunning in spring/summer. I'd love to see you do a bit less negative self talk - you call your missed shots garbage etc. - I'd love to see a talk track more like Not A Scratch Golfer.

What is under all of the black tarps near the greens?
@@50guitar pretty sure it’s the tarp/cover for the greens to keep em protected at night. Not 100% positive but that’s my guess…
@@MarkEresGolf The greens are Bermuda grass so they cover them up on cold nights to protect them. We are just on the borderline for Bermuda to thrive. Stonehouse another Strantz course down 64 from RNK, switched to Bermuda and they have not taken very well.
Another course to recommend is Mattaponi Springs in Ruther Glen.
