I think it's more about appreciating how the content is presented (the music, Sagan's passion etc) not the content itself. It's a great video, you can't deny it.

Beautiful. I miss Carl Sagan - he was a massive influence when I was young. As was Vangelis. I more or less have all his albums. Today I am a very happy Pantheist. Peace.

Thanks for posting this FFreeThinker! Do you think that people who chatter with no substance, even if they truly have a cause worth hearing .. will usually get respected attention? OK, now that I've got that off my shoulders - I think Mr. Carl spoke of things that many can't even comprehend yet. Honestly, does it really matter so much what "CREATION" is called - or that it is respected and honored and explored? Much love & endless light! ~deZengo

Listening to this I suddenly realized that Sagan himself just barely lived to see the first extrasolar planets confirmed, and he wouldn't have known of any when Cosmos was being made. That just makes one wonder how it will be to listen to these words when the first extraterrestrial life forms have finally been discovered.
By the way, I just love the phrase "matter has grown to consciousness". It's poetic, eye-opening and factual, all at the same time.

Perhaps in the future people will be able to answer the quest...Thank you for the lovely educational presentations in all your videos...Best wishes from Zuzanna

I will try to be clear:
When gravity and electromagnetism are referred to as "forces", the technical term is "fundamental force" or "fundamental interaction".
There are 4 fundamental interactions. Mechanical forces are not fundamental interactions between elementary particles.
Gauge bosons are responsible for mediating these forces between particles.
We have found bosons for EM, strong and weak. We have not discovered the particle responsible for Gravity.
    Better?

i am strong in academic, i still complete all work by knowing the main idea, how they connect and being able to see the system run in mind. this is successful for me. i dont need to know the vocabulary of the heart anatomy, alll i need to know is how it works well enough for comprehensive problem solving, in which i can do by visualization. no technology,no words, no spelling needed

the thing i find most fascinating about life is the desire to survive the desire to produce off spring combined with the desire to protect that offspring to the death. this is seen at all different levels of intelligence.in plant life if something is dying quite often the remaining energy is forced into seed production in an effort to sustain the species

It's a wonderful feeling to know that as small and insignificant as I was born, I am and shall remain a part of history of something so big, so magnificent and thriving in a cosmos of centuries upon centuries multiplied by billions and trillions of past and present, and dare I say, future. Perhaps forever. How cool is that??? I think it's awesome!

I have a sincere wish that Sagan were alive today. Towards the end of his life one could tell that even he was in awe of our advances in exploration.
I would love to hear his words now on what we are able to see today.
Even before I knew of him so well I had the question of why it is we believe "life" can only exist in the circumstances that we believe we understand.
We don't even know all the life as it exists on our planet Earth yet we believe life can only exist on other Earthlike planets

2 - Imagine two spinning tops colliding with each other. If one were to transfer all of its rotation into the other top, one would be stationary and the other would be spinning at twice the speed. The total rotation of the system is still equal to the beginning (disregarding friction), it's just been transferred.
But, fyi, this is a basic description of how rotation can be altered while the total rotation is still exactly the same. It works a bit differently with planets, I believe.

    1. Suppose 6 people are in 6 rooms, all isolated from sound etc. All these rooms end in one corridor. They are all given a dice which they can role one time. Only the people who roll 6 are allowed to go out of the room, into the corridor and announce there they have rolled 6. The other ones need to stay in their isolated rooms.
One person will , by the laws of chance, throw a six. He is joyful and walks into the corridor, announcing to thin air he threw a six.

@suanpan Technically it would have to be animal that lays eggs that came before the egg, for what I assume are obvious reasons. However your question is kind of like asking "Who did the first English speaker talk to?".
(Why? The question implies that some Latin speakers suddenly started speaking English out of the blue, when in fact the change was gradual and it would be impossible to pinpoint the "first" English speaker, or the "first" person with a Boston accent. Ditto for the "first" egg.)

  • @NeuroScientician
