Whoever drew these would be great for designing the female love interest in literary every kids movie.
💀💀💀
like seriously 🤣🤣😂🤣 the amount of time they making them humanoid is disturbing
Not to insult the artist but I feel like half of these are just adding eyelashes or hair to the design.
Its applying these weird anthropomorpheous traits we as people associate with gender that do'nt exist in nature.
Like what kind of animal grows a natural skirt ?
They're treating the Pokémon more like characters and less like monsters or animals.
@@justsomewritingfan2202 not like pokemon helps it either with stuff like Gardevoir and whatever is going on with lucarios pants fur.
@@brazilianknuckles1725 at least Guardevoir makes sense since its based on a human concept.
It and Gallade (mostly Gallade, Gardeviore is based on something else but kinda slipped into the archetype after Gallade was created) resemble the fairy tale archetype of the damsel in distress and the shining knight in armor.
Thats why they got the fairy type in the first place.
I feel like some of these designs are better suited as regional variants, but not as different gendered variants
I wholeheartedly agree.
Like the Blaziken one.
Agreed
No
I don't like normal female incinoar
Ikr? I'm not a fan of the forced eyelashes.
Most of the time a pokemons gender isn't too obvious.
"How can I make this Pokemon look feminine? I'll just draw it with eyelashes or a flower on its hair"
"How can I make this Pokemon look masculine? I'll just draw it with a mean look"
Some of the designs do look cool, though. I especially like Blaziken, Greninja and Chesnaut.
It's really giving the brown squirrel and pink squirrel with breasts and curves lol
I feel like the artist has a stereotypical sense as to what makes a female or male. It's not that flattering imo.
Yeah same, I would rather have the design being based on _actual_ sexual dimorphism (male being more colorful, female being etc...) rather than just "Teehee, boys are knights and blue, girls are princesses and pink uwu !" crap. Then, there are also "interesting" biases. Like... why do we assume base Greninja to be male ?

I'm not sure how I feel about these. A lot of them felt overly complex. The only one that had me the whole evolution chain was chikorita and that was basically just a season change.
Same
I do like the concepts for some of these but usually gender differences in Pokemon are very subtle like Pikachu's tail. If you change the color too much it can make it seem like a shiny pokemon, for example there's shiny Flareon. Flareon colors are tweaked a little yet it is still a shiny because you can see the difference without close inspection. This is honestly just my opinion so don't take it too personally.
Yeah, I wouldn’t change the colors at all
And then there’s hippopotas
And then there’s the shiny Pokémon that don’t change anything
But wait, hippotas and it's evo are here so that excuse is thrown out the window
i agree about the color change, but theres a decent amount of pokémon w/ gender difference that are pretty drastic, such as Unfezant and even the Nidoran evolutionary line technically. youre right a vast majority have slight changes, but there are still some that are very obvious differences between male and female similar to what this artist did.
EDIT: thinking back, quite a few have color differences as well, but they make sure to advertise that they arent shinies
as some of these are cute, there already is a gender difference before raichu and pikachu. the female raichu has the tip of its tail removed while the male doesnt. and for pikachu, im sure we all know, the female has a heart shaped tail

Interesting that the drawer thinks that almost any Pokemon here looks Male in their normal design.
They kinda look male-ish ngl
Well in Pokemon your starter has a 80% probability of being male so this makes sense
You cant look into a Dogs or Cats Face and tell for sure if they are Male or Female. This goes for most animals. So this is not an argument.
@-:- HayHay -:- There are Animals that have a rather male appearance to us like Turtles or Pigs or most Dinosaurs. On the other side there are Animals that have a rather female appearence like cats or fancy birds. You dont neccessarily assume their Gender when you see them, but it just has the slight appeal of the gender. But of course all these animals have two genders, that look pretty much the same.
Its the same thing with pokemon. The only difference is that some pokemon have a higher chance of having a certain gender like jigglypuff who is more likely female.
So I think it works the same with pokemon.
Casue it's true
this is honestly amazing and there's many great take, but i do sincerely belief it's better to not mess with the color palate too much
Shouldn't gender differences be very little in most cases??
I mean, Zubat and Crobat have longer or shorter teeth depending on which gender they are
you gave some of the females brighter and more festive looks but in nature it's usually the male who is more brightly colored and festive to attract the females. That being said, some of these would make cool regional variants.

High key, most of these designs feel like they’re trying a little too hard for gender variants. (Like the females, having skirts, Eyelashes and cute hair and such). Not to say the art is bad, because it’s not but like most of these work better as regional variants as opposed to gender. For example, Delphox being a samurai instead of a witch. It’s an awesome regional variant idea, but not so much for gender. There are a few good ones, like Swampert! It’s relatively low key and I generally like it. (Not sure about the eggs underneath it, but I vibe with it mostly.) it’s cool.

some of these, i can handle. others just...don't make sense. prime examples: chesnaught, delphox, and the entire primarina line.
no, seriously, what the HELL did you do to female chesnaught?? the fennekin line is based around sorcerers and witches, so the male counterparts should resemble wizards, and the primarina line is based around singers and circus performers! the male counterparts have no reason to be edgy when popplio is meant to partially resemble a circus clown.
Good point. I mean isn't chesnaught supposed to be a knight. So why does female chesnaught lose *a lot* of armor. And the poplio line was painful to look at.

@@rrex It works, but could be better, like changing just some colors, size of se parts of de body, patterns in the fur/skin and stature, then with the Pokemon those are originally too human-like I would understand the designs used here, like, I love that Blazeiken and Infernape are beautiful, and some of the Eevee evolutions are really great, but when it comes to animals... I don't like most of them.
The changes are too big, the female ones were changed the most and they look too different from the originals. I think they're ugly.
@@rrex I mean, it doesn't make sense at all. The gender differences in Pokemon are normally pretty subtle, with only a few ones that are really different, but those normally make sense like a queen bee or a bird which has colors to attract mates. This just seems like taking a Pokemon and saying "but what if we made it overly stereotypically feminine" instead of actually thinking about the logic behind it.
An Existing Person there is logic behind it. The stereotype is the logic. Why would they make both genders the same. How would they differ???

I don’t get it though it shouldn’t matter how they look it should matter how they ACT, And they’re probably going to still act the same no matter the gender.
Besides some of these look better than the originals not a lot of them do but SOME of them do.
I’m not trying to dash your opinion or anything I’m just saying got a look at this on a different level not in a level saying all girls should look like this you should look at this like they’re just trying to come up with different designs for the females and some of the males I’m just tired of people shouting out that everything is sexist guys and girls do you look different. All I’m trying to say is don’t think that all this is sexiest it’s just simply a take on how they could look like being the opposite gender. Feminine looking starter: Adds bad-ass looking upgrades and battle improvements
Really, why did male Delphox's stick get replaced with a flaming katana?
because it looks cool
@@Coola-wx8ei I have to agree...I mean...delphox is suppose to present a mage (witch) right....I don’t get it
I feel like a wizard staff would work better, sense wizards are often male and whiches are a title mostly held by women, plus it would still be a wood stick
@@Coola-wx8ei Late, but the point mostly lies in the first bit. Upgrading them is always cool, but why did musculinizing them = just making them more awesome-looking, but feminizing them just makes them look frilly? These aren't people, they're animals.
Yes, most sexual dimorphism puts females at a physical disadvantage, but I've never seen biology put a dress, hearts, hair curls, or a flower on a female. Females are often simply smaller, have missing or less pronounced/colorful "mate attracting" features (crests, plumage, manes, dulaps, fans, "beards" (in the sense of reptiles), etc.), or are less colorful. Unfezant is a good canon example. The male is flashy with green lower feathers and a large, bright wattle. The female is duller in color and has no wattle, taking aspects from dimorphism in real life birds. The female does have a heart-shaped marking on her face, but it's not hard to assume that the male does too under his "mask", making it appear as a species feature, not a specifically feminine one.
@@Legacy-sw7bv let me explain using your own example; if you look at Black and White statistics on the average use of the two Unfezants, people use the male nearly 5 times as more as the female (which is insane considering how little people even use Unfezant lmao). So if we go by realistic standards and add females with reduced colour, smaller size and less pronounced features, not only will it trigger the sExiSm mob, but also nearly fully ensure that no one would want to use them. I mean, why use them if there's literally a more colourful/better designed counterpart? Logically, by ensuring that they are wildly different like these, there would be players who would legitimately want to play one or the other because both look awesome in very different ways.
Alternatively, you could just have the exact same sprite for both genders lmao , it doesn't really matter all that much when it comes to performance

The thing I like about some of these is that they have a clear difference between the artist's male and female depictions, while still maintaining a great understanding of good pokemon design that stays true to the each's original inspirations without being sexist. Some good examples of these are Dewott and Servine.
