First, thanks for the video. I have a new to me 450 xcw. Doing a valve check @ 1500 miles, and found the intakes are zero clearance and just like in your video. This is with the marks aligned. If I rotate the cam just a bit they are loose and in spec. Do I ignore this and just use the timing marks (I will have to tap the shaft out). Or assume all is good. Thanks for any insite.. Smitty
It's hard to see on video but I think you've used wrong mark on the cam wheel and that's why your intake valves were super tight. You need to use mark which is on the outside of the cam wheel just below the chain.
I just had my dealer educate me on that issue. I was worried when I had to go down 0.0185”. The dealer put back the original shims and it was in spec. Only damage was my pride.
You need to rotate much slower, also remove the spark plug for easier rotation, put a screwdriver in the top so you can more easily see the piston height.
I rotated it as slow as it would let me. I ended up putting a dowel in the spark plug hole and found out that TDC is when that dot is at 6 o'clock. Not sure if it was marked wrong from the factory or what.
@@lock6686 That's super odd, I've never seen that on any cam on any bike. Stock cam? Does it have a straight line across from the dot? Send me a photo on FB or IG if youd like!
@@mxgryan Yeah I'd love for you to take a look. I'll send a picture on ig. Stock cam and no mark across from it. The only mark I see that could be for alignment is around 3 o'clock.
I'm new to ktm, but I absolutely love this design not having to take the cam n all that off just to adjust the valves. That's awesome.
dang that makes this look very slick and easy......
Love this video .. thanx for making this!
Glad you appreciate it Jimmy, thanks for visiting my channel!
i know it's kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to stream new tv shows online?
@Kieran Thomas try flixzone. You can find it on google =)
what is the diameter of the shims? is it 8.85mm or 8.90mm

The manual makes it sound much harder, gonna do this on my SMR450
Where did the bolt that was used to pull up the rocker arm shaft come from?
I had it laying on a shelf! Haha
I believe its the same threads as a triple clamp bolt.
Awesome, thanks boss.
I am adjusting my valves right now, and I don't see any dot on the exhaust shaft. Is there a way ton install the exhaust shaft or both ways are fine?
There's only one correct position.
@@mxgryan Incorrect. The intake only has the dot, the exhaust rocker arm shaft can go in either way.
What happens if the shims fall into the motor how would u get them out just wondering magnet flip the bike drain oil what do u do
Pull the stator off and find your prize, simple.
When I tried to get mine to TDC, the dot is either at 2 o'clock, 6 o'clock, or 10 o'clock. Any suggestions?
