can you use it without the dongle?

Yes you can with a cable, sadly there is no Bluetooth mode.
The dongle is only if you want to use 2.4ghz mode

The 9110 controller supports dongle connection and wired connection. If you lose the dongle, you can connect with the charging cable or order a single dongle. If you prefer Bluetooth and dongle at the same time, choose the EasySMX 9013 Pro or X10 model.
