Best Couch I've ever Driven! Really enjoyable, would recommend.
Tedward I agree :v
Haha

The two reverse gears are for the S/W switch.
S=Sommer and W=Winter, which is german for summer and winter.
The car normally starts driving in first gear. If you put it in wintermode it starts in second gear. This is so that you don't get wheelspin on slippery roads accalerating from a stop for example. The automatic transmission is always "pushing", wich might lead to slipping at the rear wheels if you are not pushing the brakes hard enough. This does not happen in second gear.
In wintermode the transmission starts in second gear forward and it also has a taller gear ratio for reverse. This is actually done in the 722.6 and 722.9 5- and 7-speed transmissions as well. Dont know about the newer 9-speed torque converter transmissions.
As to why you need to break against the transmission: Mercedes used torque converter style transmissions like a lot of american cars. The torque converter is a turbine submerged in ATF. This allows slippage when accalerating, because the turbine can spin faster than the transmission fixed behind it. If you are standing still, the engine is turning the turbine at idle speeds still, so it is applying torque on the transmission.
I have a CLS with the 722.9 and the C/S is for Comfort and Sport. Sport starts in 1st and Comfort starts in 2nd. IIRC sport setting has more "aggressive" shifting than comfort.
That was a spot on POV camera angle. Very nice
Thanks! Honestly it can be tricky with some cars due to seating position. This one worked out perfectly.
Yeah I felt like mentioning it because not even RCR who does this a lot can get the angle quite right.
All car reviewers should use the same method. I hate seeing the guy's face all the time in other channels; the video must focus on the car.
Indeed! That view with the stabilized picture gave it an awesome game-like effect.
Love the solid door closing sound at 1:01. Good old school MB build quality. Modern Benzes have good sounding door closings but they don't have the same heft. I know the safety is there but it would be nice to have that heavy thunk.
new G class has that !
It acutally sounds like closing MB Sprinter xD
...or a LeBaron lol
These days they have to have them light to meet emissions standards and performance expectations. Yes the safety is there. They now try to simulate the heavy feeling through the hinges which are "stiff" to make it feel heavy. You'll feel this especially on the S Class. But then it also serves a purpose where the door can stay open in literally any position and even when parked on an incline.
I enjoyed watching this WAY more than I thought I would.
Kevin Wright I enjoyed filming it way more than I thought I would!
Lovely! Great video! Thanks guys. I‘ve just bought a 560 SL here in Germany ( coming from Glencoe US) for myself. Cheers from Germany
I remember growing up and my friends father had one. I would love to drive one tho looks pretty quick.
Suchhhh a dad car!
Really enjoyable ride man, love your videos especially old and class cars, it's a must watch video for me
Thanks!
For nothing my friend
It was really fun watching you drive that car. I have a white 1989 560 SL with the same color (palomino) interior. I just love to take it out on hot days with the top down. I will never sell this car.
Wow! The classic car looks amazing!
Love your videos so much! Keep it up man....Liked and Subscribed 😊👍🏻
It’s really enjoyable to see all these POV drivings....I appreciate you so much for your efforts that you’re putting in making your videos....
Wish you a wonderful time! Edit: The cars you drive! Are lovely 😄👌🏻
Thank You!
Tedward, You’re most Welcome...!
These are becoming quite valuable Especially an 89 with that low of miles. Wow
All of these type of cars tho. I've recently seen a 750i with 85km for 33'000 bucks. But I highly doubt that anyone would really, really spend that amounth of cash for a 750.
1999
There's a black with grey interior and optional hard top with 53k miles for sale local for 21k
Video is worth a second view muted with the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack in a separate stream. Good job Tedward!
haha I'm gonna do this tonight.
Instantly made me think about the movie “ American Gigolo “ , I wanted this car because of the movie, so cool and classy !
I have an E350 (2012) and would give it up for a 560SL in a second. I grew up in the 80's and have always loved the SL design. Symbol of class!
I just love videos like these where I almost get the feeling that I am driving the car myself :-) And PS: for those who don´t know so much about the historic details of the R107 - and who think this car actually looks kinda "old fashioned" for a 1989-model - You have to consider that this car was built - more or less - over the same platform as the original car that was introduced already back in 1971. The new R129 model actually was launched on the market the same year as this one was built - in 1989
I would never sell it.
Tahvyy I agree
I miss mine
The turn signal tick sounds similar, the engine sounds relatively similar (5.5L V8 in the 2007 S550), they brought back the air vents in the new C-Class. But that door thunk isn’t there! Maybe the G-Wagen does.
amazing car! thanks for the video
I love such chilling Cars. Most other young people this days want to go fast and sporty. But I love cruising in my chrysler, specially at the autobahn or at country roads.
Good Video 👍
So smooth and you only heard the engine (a little bit only) when you put your foot down. This is car to do long journeys in.
mercedes benz had an amazing interior back in 1980's. wow
GROZA JATT The interior was actually designed in the late Sixties ready for launch in 1971!
@@AlexEssex8 cool!
One day I’ll get one miss my 190e turbo
Love the SL, but it's a goal of mine to own a super clean 560SEL, the big boii
I’m in love with it
Its really smooth.
It's a beauty!
That is the sound of pleasure !
That was a nice drive.
Wow i love this 😍😍😍😍
The doors sound so satisfying when you close them.
This is making me buy one.
Beautiful
That car is a dream!
i love so much your vieos, keeep it uup!!
My dream car. The 86 is sweet as well
Awesome movie and car!
We had a 280SEL 1984 and the ABS was great
My dad gave me his 560SL when I was a teenager. I’d cram my muddy mountain bike and the wheels in the back; REGERTS. It’s getting restored and hopefully this year, we’ll get to really enjoy this car; sans muddy bicycles. Haha.
Should do a video on the interior
And detail the build quality of this things
Very nostalgic.
560SL, BMW635(Alpina B7 coupe) and Porsche 3.2 turbo cabriolet. They were the best coupe and cabriolet.
Honda Prelude, Volkswagen Golf cabrio and Mazda RX7 cabriolet were a substitute for the student who doesn't have money.
There are only a few things that make me happier, besides seeing a classic top-segment Merc or Beamer in such an awesome state. Take good care of them and they will take good care of you. No need to worry about the write-off, as they will become more rare with the day. Keep them in perfect shape and you laugh your balls out of your pants when you resell them. I once had a nice classic '89 735i. After 3 years sold it for a bit more than I bought it, best deal and my cheapest car ever. If I sold it today I could have doubled it...
I own one a 1988. Carbenet Red over light beige. I did a European swap headlights and bumpers. New suspension on H&R sport springs and Bilstein’s.
I daily drive a 1986 560SL it is the most comfortable car I have ever driven
What a beautiful car! This is what rich bachelors bought 30-45 years ago.
Mooi ding, Arjen! ;)
Nice video
Awesome !.
First thing you do in the Old Benz is to fasten your seatbelt, so the buzz never goes off.
Makes the starting procedure much more pleasant
Big emblem Benzzzz!
So beautiful a machine
what a beauty
An absolute beauty. Even the road suits the ride. Where is this exactly?
Would you use it as a daily driver ?? Thank's ,nice review drive as always ..
Please more classics like 02 and older bmws and Mercedes and other older cars please :)
Wow. I wouldn't mind having that car.
Those thud sounds.....feels like a vault
Nice and super video please do a review of Nissan Armada platinum reserve.
I wonder where you're from, I love the scenery
so beautiful
Nice ca-
*Notices Gear shift*
We can all be glad for what we have.
Bruh the leemu emu is a legend
never say sorry for the wind, its the cherry in the cake.
Work at a mechanic shop thinking about restoring one of these!! Really want to!! Wish me luck!
Good luck!
Reminds me of Heart to Heart
Operaspia reminds me of Dallas
And about me the 1980 "American Gigolo", in black as like this video. Just the opening sequence with Blondie's "Call Me" is magic ! But in the end, Julian Kay (aka Richard Gere) took to pieces this fabulous car. Horrendous spectacle !
Coincidence. I daily drive my 1989 560sl same color combo 28k miles in Boston. I have the same issue with passenger floor mat. Hope you all enjoy! Was my grandparents
2:06
LOL it sounds like a fuel pump on a cessna when you prime the engine before ignition
Hahah. My friends use to ask me what that noise was.
Funny you mention the Grand Marquis, my aunt had the MB and her husband always bought American -- and that's what he had on *his* side of the garage. Funny thing was that the hardtop took up her space, and she never got around to ordering the hoist/garage kit --because her husband could do the man's job. (Q. How does your friend manage?)
Nice video! And I just drove my convertible through roads like that when I went on vacation
10:25 uhhh the wonderful roads through the orange groves in california
Benz at its best.
3:09 viscous fan sound
damn....what a beauty!
the way you closed the hood, I just died a bit on the inside.
Relic
Wind noise wasn’t too bad. Def get the wind visor. Night and day difference. Plus than you can actually hear the music.
The reason why it cost that much is the materials, the fact that it was very well made was what gave it a high price.
Nowadays you categorize a "luxury" car by the amount of technology it has included, but you forget about the materials, the quality and the joy of driving something simple and well made.
With miles that low, I wouldn’t be using that as a daily. It’s going to be tremendously valuable
whats the point in owning such a great car, but then never driving it just because you want to preserve the value
When you're a trust fund son, coasting on the family wealth, who cares about value? What are these kids? 20? Going on "My Porsche, My M3, My C63."
Because if everybody thought that way, there would never be any nice ones left.
coolest car evet
Benz had a real thing about fitting ridiculously small steering wheels in that era :D
What a fantastic year!
Where are you driving? It is beautiful!
What's that initial sound when the ignition is turned on?
For the first time I see you, you are very stylish
A true classic. When filling her up which gas is the best choice:regular or premium?.Ethanol gasolines is tolerated by this old engines?.
Premium for sure... In the US it is very hard to find Ethanol free fuel. Most state that it may contain up to 10%. So far I haven't heard many folks directly associate major issues with it, but it will certainly wear out rubber and seals faster... Just how fast? I don't know.
You should've of bought the car, it looks well taken care of.
You got nice roads to play with, where is it?
Where is this place..? It looks like wonderful..
Horizon 4 looks great
The pinnacle of Smotoring luxury..(?)
You missed the boat... These cars are classic, has nothing to do with today's boring all looking the same cars... That is why it was 65k new and it is still a pleasure to drive 33 years later....
nice good
