Watch Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloons Being Inflated | NBC New York

This year’s parade - the 96th annual - will feature 16 giant character balloons, 28 floats, 40 novelty and heritage inflatables, 12 marching bands, 700 clowns and 10 performance groups. NBC New York's Kay Angrum was live from Central Park West.

When I moved to New York in 1978 the balloon inflation was a neighborhood event with maybe be a few dozen local residents congregating. I don't remember when the media turned it into a "thing" but I don't leave the house until everyone's gone.
