Syd, I almost screamed at the screen when you said in the beginning that you didn't want to read The Tainted Cup because you didn't want to start another series. Thank goodness you changed your mind! I read it last week and I can't stop thinking about it and its world. I gave it 4.75. Not a perfect 5 but pretty close. It was a happy read. I'm glad it also made you happy.
The Tainted Cup is my FAVORITE book I read this year, and I'm so glad you started with that book for RJB. Because now you've got two other trilogies to check out that are super interesting!! And yeah the Goodreads Sci-Fi category was also not it this year. Super literary-heavy, practically no space opera or anything. Don't know how they made their choices.
So glad you like the Tainted Cup. I figured you would like it but one can never be sure :) I voted for that book to win. The only others I read were Emily Wilde (which I liked) and the Familiar (which I didn´t like)
I’m so glad you loved The Tainted Cup! It was such a fun one and I can’t wait for book two 😍 I voted for Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands but The Tainted Cup was a contender (along with The Familiar which I did like, haha).
Ohhhh Syd, my dude. I completely had the SAME experience with The Book of Doors. What even was that? Big bummer. (Btw, I also think you'd love House in the Cerulean Sea.)🌳🌳🌳
🌲 I will go with a Pine tree because... Christmas 😂 I haven't read ANY of the books you read, but Tainted Cup might be the first one I get to in January. I want to try and read books that I have a digital ARC for, and that is one of them. Need to write my reviews! But, I am happy you found a 4.5! It may not have been the one you wanted to be 4.5, but that's the best part of books- they surprise you in the best of ways.
Tainted Cup is DEFINITELY _not_ a duology. I just read the arc for book 2 and you're for sure not gonna get closure (though I did love it and thought it was another great mystery) in his Feb AMA he said he envisions this series with a dozen or more installments, like a Miss Marple or something.
@@SydBookWorrom Sometimes that means all of the planned books of a series, usually it just means all of the created entries up til that point in time. :)
I was personally surprised The Silverblood Promise wasn’t on the list. I know it wasn’t like best fantasy ever but I think it was better than a couple of the nominees personally
we are SPOILED! also I feel the same about critiquing someone's writing, when I'm just a hobby writer myself. but also when you know bad writing, you KNOW ugh
I couldn’t get into The book of doors either and it was a dnf for me. I voted for The Empire of the Damned. Love that series though never been into vampire books! Also loved the tainted cup.
Just finished the Book of Doors. I think you might have given up too early on it. :-) Maybe you will give it another chance. I am actually hoping for me books from this author. But... everyone is different. I use your recommendations a lot. Happy reading. I love your channel.
Furyborn was mid for me. I remember the premise being cool but the execution was sloppy. Not a fan of The Faithful and the Fallen series but did enjoy the first Bloodsworn Saga book. Malice was very bro fantasy, imo. I loved The Daughter of No Worlds but thought the sequels were kind of long. Didn’t love murderbot. Just didn't do much for me.
I totally agree that the fantasy category was not quite it this year. It's crazy that the literary fiction category was so much more exciting to me!

You have so quickly become one of my favourite booktubers ❤️
I voted for the book of doors haha! I love it when people rant about books I've loved because we all have different taste and that is OK
Same. I loved it.
Definitely read Foundryside by RJB! It’s one of my favorite series of all time. Such an interesting magic system and the best characters.
🌳🌳 I voted for The Tainted Cup- I loved it!
I voted for the tainted cup. Loved it and looking forward to the sequel
I loved The Tainted Cup! So glad you did, too! I'm so excited that the second is about to release!!

Your fantasy reading vlogs are my favoriteeeee (other than your travel vlogs !)
I know this isn’t book related but I would love to see your coffee set up! Machine, grinder, portafilter type, any favorite accessories, etc.

That's the genre I've been most looking forward to from you!
Can't wait!

“The book of snores” 💀
lol
That’s such a bummer about The Book of Doors 😭 it sounds so promising haha

I voted for the lost story, I loved it. 😊❤
Have you not read RJB's Foundryside trilogy??? Ma'am. Immediately.
OKAY BUT what do you MEAN you haven't read House in the Cerulean?? I literally promise you will love it.
i miss youuuuuu 🌳🌳
i miss youuuu!💓
🌳🌲I think John Gwynne's final book, The Fury of the Gods, should have been nominated. It wasn't my favorite of the trilogy but not even a mention!?
I want to read tainted cup so badly 🥹
