Very cool to watch professionals doing it. I'm just building my own shop/home. Learning as I go. A buddy of mine did bring over a Chain Mortiser. Probably felt sorry for me. I'm a Professional Blacksmith so I did make all my Slicks and Chisels. They'll hang over the fireplace when the house is finished along with John Ruskin's quote: “When we build, let us think that we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for; and let us think, as we lay stone on stone, that a time is to come when those stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them, and that men will say, as they look upon the labor and wrought substance of them, 'See! This our father did for us.”
I'm afraid that standard speaks to probably 5% of all construction if that. Construction now operates on the paradigm of planned obsolescence. "Of course you'll have to rebuild this in 50 years, certainly 100!"
That truss is as thing of great beauty and precision. Having built a few myself - but never to this standard, I enjoyed this very much. Amazing big dimension timber, big chisels and perfect mortises.

They are wonderful woodworking
hello there, you still know how long these trusses were? how long was the span? you know what trusses are used for large spans?
That is a beautiful truss! I’m curious about the moisture content and how the joinery behaves over time. Are your timbers pretty dry when you build?
We use kiln dried, free of heart douglas fir in our interiors, this will greatly help with any movement.
what is the name of the tool used to make a mortise?
This is a Mafell mortise machine, Makita makes a decent one as well.
@@picklestimberframes4808 thanks~
Nice
Do you use douglas fir?
Yes, this project was done with Douglas fir
This is KAYF !
where are you located at?
We are located on Vancouver Island B.C
Please someone tell me the opening song! Thank you😂
