I play on pc with an controller and i can see controller buttons. Its not even an original xbox controller yet it still works. However change the grab button to accelerate and the break stun to boost and this game mode is easier. You will maybe notice that at the beginning attack is the most favorable. Mid game its grab. End game its attack and block because of the insta kill zone. Try to use air rolls and jumps before you use all your boost because without boost you die easier above the canyon. Try using rolls instead of boost while accelerating from far away because your rolls reset instantly when you touch the ground.
one of my favorite things to do is you jump, flip towards someone, keep flipping, they stay still for some reason, and you get a heavy attack ko. they just dont know what to do
Yo the amount car control learning is amazing I've watched my friends get so much better after playing knock out for awhile than right back to comp or casual and they are so much better on the field
Thank you sunless for making a video describing how to actually play the game using the counters. Until this vid, I had no idea that attack countered the grab. Psyonix didn’t put any list of moves in the game so I had no idea which moves I should use in the game
This game mode is all about outthinking the opponent if you throw a bunch people will attack, if you attack a bunch people will block. If you block a bunch say hello to the ground. So this game mode is all about conditioning the other players into thinking you will do something and then doing something else all while reading what the other players are doing. It's so much fun.
I often play with friends but don't give a shit and focus on each other early in the game. When I get queued with guys who team up, I often go early for them next match just so they don't get to play.
Me and my friends have terrible car control but because of all the boost and flips, it's still very possible to win games if your smart. I love this mode. Only thing that's annoying is the way lock on never works like it should.
This is the only gamemode i play rn, My favorite thing is if someone gets yeeted far away to follow them out and end them for good mid air, you can actually fly like a huge way out and still recover back after ending their careers lol
I'm actually superrrrr shocked and very fortunate! I cannot believe that was actually you we played with that's crazy. That's me Neowulf and my buddy thaltin88 in the beginning!! Absolutely amazing I would've never guessed.
That gamemode is the best thing that probably happened in rocket league, i mean it's something absolutely new but yet feels like good old rocket league. Kind of gives me a vibe of the game Mad Tracks were you could pick up packages with weapons to get rid of opponents on the map. Let's hope that Knockout Bash will get developed even more!
Fun little tricks to keep on mind for being actually meta. Stationary (or slow) attacks combo into grabs or a faster attack You can't grab after a throw release BUT you CAN attack after a "weak" throw. Throwing slowly into a heavy is an actual 50-50 . If you wish to edge guard, do NOT forget that jump does let you grab and spinning into a side flip has some decent power for quick "oh shit" mix. Reminder but again, being behind someone means they CAN'T attack you nor grab you, they'd have to turn but they can block you. Grab the saiyen's tail or slap his face is good rule of thumb. Extra tip: want to kill someone hiding on a wall? Fly by and grab them with an angled double jump into a side flick, bam, fuck you camper.
people used to counter my throws straight down until i just boosted straight down with them and threw so there’s literally nothing u can do it’s basically an instant KO then just turn around and fly back up before dying with them
this mode has some real potential to become an extra playlist permanent ranked mode with some tweaks, finally something new and fresh in rocket league, seems like forever since we got something new, hopefully they decide to make this permanent, really enjoyed my time with this mode so far.
I agree with this video 100%. It felt like rocket league and smash bros got combined. If you think about it, they both have a stage, they both have a dodge thing with a bubble, then you can grab the person using dodge for example, you can also spike people out of the map, there's instant death mode at 6 minutes in as if smash bros was at 300% health on overtime. Even the way you get back on the stage is like smash bros and using the special abilities to fly back to the edge of the stage
The game turned into smash bros. First wave dash, now this. With different smash attacks, grabs, throws, shield, the knock out boundaries, ...everything.
Here's some useful information. Grabs and Attacks have a frame activation timer like moves in fighting games do. It takes exactly 12 physics frames before an Attack or Grab becomes active. This is exactly 100 milliseconds (12 out of 120 is 10%, and 10% of a second is 100 milliseconds) / 0.1s. If you ever feel like your "Attack" doesn't counter the Grab, you did one of two things wrong. You either flipped too late and your Attack never became active before they grabbed you. Or your Attack was not aimed properly as the middle of the sprite seemingly has to contact the opponent's hitbox.
Thats assuming everyone has perfect internet. In fps game if 2 people shoot at the same time the person with a faster connection to the server will always win. You can flip before him and if he has a better connection you lose.
@@spaceygnat19908 That's not how RL netcode works. Rocket League is 100% server authoritative and clients do not send any gamestate to the server. Server has its own simulation of the game that is always true and clients cannot alter the gamestate. Unlike shooters, where the server trusts the client that he shot "X" player, a form of gamestate information. Rocket League only tracks what buttons the client is pressing (jump, drive, boost, etc etc). Their location and actions are simulated on the server as the input is received, not rewound and accepting who was "first" with lower ping. This information comes from Psyonix's network engineer "Jared Cone", as he had a GDC talk on this, and posted several Reddit comments. So no, it does not assume everyone has perfect internet. It only assume that you, and *ONLY* you, have a decent internet connection that is not unstable (to miss inputs) and is not super delayed (150+ ping), as clients rely on prediction and receiving information from the server. The only information that matters is on the server simulation. What other clients see or do on their own simulation has absolutely no effect on the server. And really, the advice is catered to what you see. If you see a grab is already out (information the server sent you), then you MUST calculate your flip to be 100ms prior to you making contact on your screen (as client-side prediction's pretty accurate most of the time). If you both flip at the same time on the server instance, it won't matter who has a lower ping, as both clients are predicting the future by their ping and generally the client simulations are sync'd up for the delay properly. Meaning if you both flip inches before contact (let's say 200uu from the target), then even with different pings both of you generally would still dodge at the same time, with some variance depending on who's input buffer is more filled.
@@badateverything2931 The frame activation timer? I hosted a Knockout match locally by loading the gamemode with BakkesMod. I also had turned the replay FPS to 120hz rather than 30hz (to make the replay file near 100% accurate). I then counted the physics frame in the replay file. But I wasn't 100% sure, so I also recorded a 120fps video using OBS while playing that local game. I also had a physics frame/tick counter visible. So when replaying the video back at 30fps scaled (25% speed), I looked at the physics frame counter to see when it would activate. Though that wasn't enough to make me 100% certain, so I did the same exact thing as above, but set the gamespeed to 10% using BakkesMod console with 120fps, and scaled that down to 25% speed. So with the total speed being 2.5% speed, I was able to be 100% certain which physics frame it activated, which is the 12th physics frame.

Use lshift to grab someone or scroll down completely in controls tab
skill issue
It's like rocket league smash bros. Might have to hop on and give this a try.
one of my favorite things to do is you jump, flip towards someone, keep flipping, they stay still for some reason, and you get a heavy attack ko. they just dont know what to do
Yo the amount car control learning is amazing I've watched my friends get so much better after playing knock out for awhile than right back to comp or casual and they are so much better on the field
Imagine competitive. I need it in my life.
3v3, 2v2, 1v1s.
Please
a better version of rocket league with no balls
Thank you sunless for making a video describing how to actually play the game using the counters. Until this vid, I had no idea that attack countered the grab. Psyonix didn’t put any list of moves in the game so I had no idea which moves I should use in the game
Classic Sunless 1 liner to end the video, and then I lost my next 8 ranked games.
This game mode is all about outthinking the opponent if you throw a bunch people will attack, if you attack a bunch people will block. If you block a bunch say hello to the ground. So this game mode is all about conditioning the other players into thinking you will do something and then doing something else all while reading what the other players are doing. It's so much fun.
sunless "You guys know what we do to throwers."
Me: You put the shopping cart back
this should be permanently in the extra modes or casual playlists. Thiswas so fun
The holy rule of extra modes is:
Dropshot>rumble>knockout>snowfree>rocketlabs>hoops>yeetseeker
I often play with friends but don't give a shit and focus on each other early in the game.
When I get queued with guys who team up, I often go early for them next match just so they don't get to play.
hope we get a tournament of this
Honestly, if rocket league wasn’t a car soccer game and was just this, I would play it and not rage everytime I lose
My mates: "I was starting to see the appeal of throwing!"
Absolutely love it
sunless: strategy is good! sound familiar?
everyone: no
And the great thing is, you don't have to rely on random teammates!
Stationary (or slow) attacks combo into grabs or a faster attack
You can't grab after a throw release BUT you CAN attack after a "weak" throw.
I played this mode for all of 30 seconds. Had a guy just throw me directly into the grid twice and that was enough for me.
Thx for the tips lol im grinding this for my rocket pass
4:00 "but he died" - my condolences on your passing away
I keep imagining a fading Link scream as the cars fade into the background. This gives me Smash Bros vibes and I like it! xD
When this first came out, it only took hours until my buddy and I were spiking people down into the Oblivion. Fun as fuck game.
people used to counter my throws straight down until i just boosted straight down with them and threw so there’s literally nothing u can do it’s basically an instant KO then just turn around and fly back up before dying with them
I have won a few rounds, but definitely learned that attacks block the grabs!
This was like a hilarious tutorial. Love it!
Now that demo guy in every match would be proud to be good at something
You should do a video where you play with woody and do the demo thing but you report the toxic kids for verbal abuse!🤣
I'm supposed to be Plat 2 in 3's but because it was the first competitive playlist, I did it as soon as I got Rocket League
Ngl knockout bash really makes me have a good time and not frustrated because I don’t have to deal with the ball anymore😂
Sunless is like a God at this mode
this mode has some real potential to become an extra playlist permanent ranked mode with some tweaks, finally something new and fresh in rocket league, seems like forever since we got something new, hopefully they decide to make this permanent, really enjoyed my time with this mode so far.
I'm seriously addicted to this game mode. I wish they make it ranked and add some other goal besides "stay alive" to incentive more active playing.
now we just need a ranked mode for this, imagine SX Knockout Grand Champion
I agree with this video 100%. It felt like rocket league and smash bros got combined.
If you think about it, they both have a stage, they both have a dodge thing with a bubble, then you can grab the person using dodge for example, you can also spike people out of the map, there's instant death mode at 6 minutes in as if smash bros was at 300% health on overtime. Even the way you get back on the stage is like smash bros and using the special abilities to fly back to the edge of the stage
Song in the background from 6:50 - 8:05 ?
I think the best thing about this game mode is you learn a lot of car control that can be mostly put into regular games
Edge guarding, multiple jumps, attack-dodge-throw. This is the Smash mode of Rocket League!
The game turned into smash bros. First wave dash, now this. With different smash attacks, grabs, throws, shield, the knock out boundaries, ...everything.
I always grab people and throw them into the void, and I also made sure to put the shopping cart back
You made me even more hiped about knock-out! And that makes me even wanna go from vacation and play.
This new game mode is amazing. It's really fun when you know what your doing.
him: throws someone the wrong way
the throw: die
him: wOaH
The grab is so op when you have low ping, they always said it wasn’t pay 2 win but look at it now.
It really is a fun game mode, one of the funniest things is when everyone spams quick chat before the start of the game.
This mode is so fun. Whoever decided to make it an LTM deserves to be in jail.
Especially with how gaming is now, new content is everything when it comes to multiplayer games, limited time modes just doesn't make sense to me.
@@HoraryHellfire YOOOO ITS UUUUUUUUUUUUUUU THE GUY FROM LITEARLLY EVERY POST ON R/ROCKETLEAGUE HIIIIIIIIIIIII
how did u even figure this out btw?
I've always wondered "what would smash bros in rocket league be like?" This is exactly what I'd expect
