  • A loose and leisurely treatment of this famous Irish jig.
Just four instruments: guitar, mandolin, bass, and a tiny bit of reed organ.
The amazing photographs of old Ireland in the accompanying slideshow are from the Library of Congress Archives and in the public domain. They can be viewed here: irisharchaeolog...
Down to the Roots: new instrumental arrangements of traditional folk tunes from the British Isles and occasionally further afield, played on various acoustic instruments. There are many other examples on this channel and new pieces are added from time to time.

    A classic!
Have you ever considered the Tam Lin Reel?

Thanks, Dawn... a gorgeous piece ... which I fear may be beyond my modest abilities... but definitely worth looking into!

Is it just me or does this have roughly the same meter as "Humpty-Dumpty sat on a wall?"

Maybe at the speed I play it! I have heard fiddlers rattle through it at twice the speed - probably far too fast for poor old Humpty! Regards from Gary ("Down to the Roots").
