Thank you to everyone who reached out via text and email to check on my parents who live in Florida. They made it through the storm ok and we are all very grateful. Thank you for all of your thoughts and concerns. For all of you in SW Florida who are dealing with the devastation caused by hurricane Ian we send our love.
In an effort to spread some joy during this difficult time, today we announce the winner of our shell hunt. Thank you all for participating in the giveaway. We will be giving away more shell hunts soon! Stay tuned!
Today we hit the beach in search of Hurricane Ian storm finds! We just had our very first storm of the season and the ocean is wild and the wrack line did not disappoint! It was for sure a shell storm! These October storms churn up the ocean and are known to wash up some amazing and unusual beach finds. In this video we find some awesome beach scores - huge moon snails, scallops, waved whelks and more! Today we pop over to the beach (during the tail end of the storm) to checkout the ocean and the surf is crazy! Beach combing this storm was a bit difficult due to the high winds, but well worth our efforts.

Thank you for mentioning the devastation in SW Florida! I am heartbroken at what has happened to FMB and Sanibel!! We were just there in June and so sad to see that the places we visited are no longer there! I love the scallops that you find at Plum Island! They are so big!! Beautiful moon! Love the drift wood pieces!
I visited Sanibel for the first time back in April. I was so sad to see video of all the destruction left behind by Hurricane Ian. Ugh. I think every sheller across the globe is in mourning.
That looks so cold! The shells are beautiful! Our prayers are with Florida. Keep them in our hearts.
It was a bit cold, but wait 'til winter. You don't know cold until you're shelling in 15 degree weather! That's when I go home and jump in my hot tub. Haha! Thanks for watching.

Wow that Deep Sea Scallop was gorgeous 😍! Please be safe out on the beach. The damage from Hurricane Ian in Florida was horrific. My heart breaks for Florida 😓😨😰

We were fortunate here in Massachusetts Toni. It was super windy. I can't imagine what it was like on Sanibel. My heart goes out to everyone down in Florida. ❤❤

Fabulous finds one after another! What fun! I loved the wild weather, too ... although looking at your bare toes was making me freeze! 😂 My favorite find was the vertebra- so cool! And I was cracking up over your little Frankenstein lobster!
I'm not gonna lie - the water froze my little toes! Haha. It was worth it though! What a day!
Quite the haul, in spite of the wind. No doubt Julia will be thrilled. On the moon shells, the small shells in Florida are called "shark eyes" or sometimes, if the eye is blue, they are known as "Paul Newman shark eyes." I've also noticed that some of the moon shells have the look of a "false shark eye." All part of the family of moon shells.
Yes! I found my very 1st shark eye on the Cape this past spring! I was over the moon! Pun intended! Lol. I also found some on my Florida trip! I love examining the differences between the shark eyes and the northern moons! 😍 Thank you so much for watching!!
Congrats to Julia, you got some beautiful shells coming. Jamie when you picked up that tiny perfect sand dollar I almost cried! I love them so much. That was some strong wind and angry waves but the shelling was awesome. Sorry about your mic!!

It has been 4 years since Hurricane Michael destroyed my Panama City home. It has been tough, really tough. I am offering hope for those affected by Ian. I thought it would never get better. It did, but it will never be the same. God Bless
Oh my goodness - this sounds so devastatingly heartbreaking to me. I can't even imagine. Every now and again, we lose a home on Plum Island from a massive storm, but nothing along the lines of the hurricane you must have experienced. I am so glad you are ok and made it through. I also love that you are giving hope to those who are enduring a similar experience from Ian. Thank you for your positive comments and energy. ❤️🌊✌️

What huge shark eyes! And they are beautiful! ❤
These are Northern Moons - they have a couple of features that are different than shark eyes! I found my 1st shark eye on the cape this past spring! I was so excited!!!

I’m so jealous of the winner!! What a perfect time to get shells!!! In Corpus Christi, Padre Island it was crazy here too! We had wind and big waves. Sometimes the water surge went all the way to the dunes!! Lucky for us we had great weather but windy. I spent two days collecting beach toys ( probably about 30-50) shovels, rakes and sand molds galore! I also found a lot of shells and sea beans!! Today I went under the causeway bridge and hit the jackpot!!! I probably found at least 20 or more moon snails (shark eyes) and lightening whelks, a sundial and many others!!! It was a totally awesome day!!!! I would like to propose a trade with you!?! Let me know if you are interested and we can work something out! Great video!!!

Hi Kim! I know they are found in MA and on the Cape, also in Maine and Canada. Canada has even larger ones than I find! I hope to shell there someday soon! Thanks for always tuning in my friend!

Oh man I missed this chance to get shells from Ian storm. I use to look for mermaid jewels here In Narragansett RI! But after a divorce I had my own personal hurricanes, my health issues have stopped me from getting to the beach again for years now. But I keep my head up and do my best to enjoy what I can. Watching is alot of fun too! I just found you so I’m excited to get to see another. I must say I’m sorry so many people got hit so so bad, it’s not fair. I sent money to red cross I hope they come and help people soon. ❤ I will hope I don’t miss another chance to win. I have a small collection from different trips I have taken in the past so I love shells because my mom loved shells. She lives in Calif. I miss her so. Well, nice to meet you. I was supposed to go shelling on Sanibel in 2;weeks. So sad to have had to cancel but tourism isn’t needed there right now.
Hi Nancy! A friend of mine had a trip booked too :( there are places you can switch to like Marco Island and 10K Island. Anither friend of mine just got back from there. He said there are shell tours up and running and everything. Are you able to switch?

Hello, this is one of the reasons my family and I chose to move to Arizona instead of Florida last year.
I love the beach and I'm a saltlife kinda girl , but coastal living is so unpredictable and mother nature now a days is not helping anyone situation .

Hi! I'm so glad you found me! We're on Plum Island in Massachusetts. Patti is correct - much like Sanibel, Plum Island is a barrier island. We're cold weather shellers up here in Massachusetts. You can find super big blue Moons, neptunes, huge scallop shells - all kinds of beautiful shells really. I'm looking forward to this year's late fall, early winter shelling. What happens with all the traps and rope that washes up on the beach. Are there people that clean up the beach?
The Plum Island community is awesome. We have a lot of volunteers for beach clean ups after big storms. Also, for lobstering, there are volunteers that collect the buoys and traps and bring them the a centralized location for the lobstermen to collect. Each trap and buoy is marked with their ID number. They are also illegal to remove from beaches from anyone except the volunteers. There are fines and you cam even do jail time 😬😲 thank you so.much for watching!

Yes when we were at the blue dolphin on Santible a couple of weeks ago, we saw nest that were roped off because they still had eggs 🥚

@@PlumIslandSeaCabin my husband happened to be on the beach several years ago when they were checking the nest. He was allowed to release several babies into the ocean. He was so happy and of course he got pictures.
@Brenda Barber that is awesome. I love this. I'm not sure about the ones on Sanibel, but here is New England we rarely have nests on Plum Island, but the Cape has a lot. ❤️
I never find good shells in Florida maybe not going to the right beach
South West Florida is the best! Marco Island and Ten Thousand Islands are awesome. They may still be accessible too. I have seen people posting tours on Marco on Instagram.
