Hi there, Honda owners. Today on your 2020 Honda CRV, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install. CURT's Class 3 two inch trailer hitch receiver. The cross tube is going to be hidden behind the facia. So you're only going to see the receiver here at the back. There is some minor trimming that you have to do on the facia with this one, but it's really just here at the bottom.
It's a class 3 two inch by two inch receiver, so it's going to be great for all of your telling needs. Whether you want to put a bike rack or cargo carrier in here, or if you've got some towing you need to do, maybe bring a little boat with you.It uses a five-eighths inch hitch pin and clip. Now, one doesn't come included with the hitch, but we've got plenty of available here at etrailer.com. On bottom, we have hoop style safety chain loops with a nice size opening that should accommodate just about every shape, size, and style of safety chain. Even our big guy here doesn't have any problems.
This hitch offers a 525 pound tongue weight, which is the force going down on top of the receiver. And that's going to be plenty for a four bike platform rack, fully loaded up with four bikes. It's not quite enough to have the largest cargo carrier here at each trailer loaded up to the max, but it does come very close. It also features a 3,500 pound gross towing capacity, which is how much that it can pull behind it. So if you wanted to do pull a trailer with this, you should have no problem pulling a nice small utility trailer, maybe a jet ski trailer, or if you've got a small boat, you could bring that as well. Now, I've got some measurements for you to help you when deciding on accessories.
From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, it measures about three and a half inches. This is important when determining if your folding accessories can be placed in the upright storage position without contacting the bumper. And from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube, it measures about 14 and a half inches. This is important when determining if you need to drop, rise, or raise shank on any of your accessories. Now that we've gone over some of the features of our hitch, why don't you follow along in the shop and we'll show you how to get it installed It may look intimidating since you can't see the crosstube here, but it's actually quite easy. We'll begin our installation underneath the vehicle by lowering down our exhaust. Before you lower it down, we want to put a strap in place to ensure it doesn't lower down too far and cause any damage.
We can just hook the strap on here underneath. We're just going to snug it up. Now, we are on a lift, but you could easily do this in your driveway. We're going to come back here towards the rear of the vehicle now, and then we're going to pop the hangers off the exhaust. A little bit of spray silicone makes it easier to remove them. Then you can just pry it off with your pry bar. We'll do the same thing over on the other side. Once both of the rear ones on each side are taken off, we're going to go forward towards the front. And there's another one here in the middle that will also need to pop off.We can now use our strap to gently lower the exhaust. We just need enough clearance to work with. So that's going to be plenty right there. We can now start feeding our hardware into place. You'll have spacers and carriage bolts that come in your kit. We're going to be using these. This is the smaller carriage bolt. We'll take the coiled wires that come in our kit, and we're going to start with the furthest hole here away from our access hole. So this is the one closest to the front, the small hole. Put our coil then in there, and then we're going to bring it out, the large hole, towards the rear of the vehicle here.We can then take our spacer, slide it over our coiled end and then thread the carriage bolt onto the coiled end. These can be pushed into the frame. And then you just pull on your fish wire to bring it back down through the hole. We are then going to remove the fish wire because we have to reuse it. You'll only get two in your kit so we can do the same thing with this one right here. Once we've got both of these fed in on this side, we're going to repeat this same process over on the other side. We'll need to trim out a small section of the facia here at the back of the vehicle on the bottom for our hitch to be able to fit up into. You can also trim out the under shield if you want, but this will just push up out of the way. So you don't have to, but it can make it a little easier to install. We went ahead and marked it out per
