For my tournament in December this year I planned having the French Defense as my weapon against 1.e4 but this will easily be my 2nd choice! When ever I learn a new opening I'm glad to see you have a video on it. You're now one of my main channels for learning opening theory.
Hey William! I'm glad these videos are helping you man. And ya, the Elephant Gambit is shockingly good. People think it's a low-tier gambit (like the Latvian Gambit) but not close!
I just recently defeated a player rated 300 higher with the Elephant Gambit. The move 2)…d5 really troubled him resulting in over five minutes of contemplation. This was in round 2 of the Forester Open 4 taking place in Coppell, Texas.
Hello darkness, my old friend. I'll play the Elephant again... Yes, I've beaten players better than me with this ancient wonder. Thanks for this, Solomon.
Hey Ravi! Ya the Elephant Gambit is legit one of the most difficult openings to play against. It's just looks so weird and throws all normal chess out of the window. Glad you ended up being okay haha
This opening is extremely interesting. Almost like a sister to the Latvian. I studied the latvian pretty in depth, and it’s fun, but the elephant offers more practical chances i think
Great video! I also knew that gambit has bad reputation Good to see an alternative view! I suppose it may work in blitz, as opponents usually expect immediate gains with players playing odd openings. I only expected some news about actual elephants :D but no problems, I like chess better ;))
Thanks Gabriel! And I know! I totally forgot to do National Geographic and didn’t realize until we posted it. We do have a whale video coming out with some actual whales!
Hey John! Ya so against Bc4 if black plays d5 this is actually called the Khan Gambit! It's interesting but I don't recommend it. I think better is 2. ...f5 with the Calabrese Countergambit, which black actually has a winning record with at the master and grandmaster level!
I would say that the Elephant Gambit is more sound. Borris Spassky lost to an International Master who played it against him, with a lot of solid lines/variations for black. That being said, the Latvian Gambit can get white into trouble quickly as well. It simply depends on who you are playing. The Latvian Gambit is less strong though with an opponent that knows what they are doing. Hope this helps!
@@TheChessGiant thank you so much Solomon for your insights. I love your Channel! I've discarded the Latvian Gambit as being too risky. I like central gambits such ss Danish gambit, Elephant Gambit, and the Scandinavian Icelandic Gambit. As black, if you were to compare the Elephant Gambit with the Icelandic Gambit, which one would suit me more as an aggressive fun tactical player? And why?

I always wanted to check out the Elephant Gambit and this video helped me understand the concepts. Thanks so much!
Thank you Breon! I'm glad you liked it!

Haha thanks Alan! Ya it's a fun one, appreciate you!
Saw you play Carlini on the Coffee Chess channel, great game man! Subbed!
Ayy thanks man!
@@TheChessGiant do you have a link to that video?
i just faced it for the first time in my life - and didn't know what to play... I took the e5 pawn and thankfully my opponent didn't know the deets

Sound and interesting kind of opening
Right!? It is crazy to me how different chess opening names can be haha.
Hi man, nice video. At 6:15 what about if white plays Qh5 instead of recapturing the bishop ?
yes. exactly. That is the killer. so is 3.d4
Did you ever do the Boris Spassky vs Elephant gambit video? Can't seem to even find the game, would love to have a look at it. Thanks in advance
I have not got around to it yet, thanks for the reminder it's a great game!
Hey Solomon can you do a video on the panov botvinnik attack for white thanks man
Hey Abhay! Will do! I’ll try to get it in the next week or two and I’ll shout you out!
@@TheChessGiant thanks Solomon
instead of 2. Nf3, if white plays 2. Bc4, can black still play the elephant gambit?

Elephant gambit or Latvian gambit, which is objectively better?
Amazing, this gambit is legit! Way better than the Latvian.
Hey Bradley, I'm 100% with you! It's surprisingly strong and much more sound than the Latvian!

Wait dont you have to single push your pawn for eunpasant(sorry if i didnt spell it right)
double push!
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 d5
3. exd5 e4
4. Qe2 Nf6
5. d3 Qxd5
6. Nbd2
is a better try than 5. Nc3
