- One of the most exciting musicians of his generation Sheku Kanneh-Mason gives his insights into the sound worlds of his 'new' cello, the outstanding 'Ex-Goritzki' by Matteo Goffriller, made in Venice c1700.
Uniting Sheku with this cello through the Florian Leonhard Fellowship thanks to a syndicate of generous sponsors was certainly one of our happiest moments of 2021 - a wonderful uplifting story in a difficult year.
Many thanks to @dw_euromaxx for this documentary.
What a cello - and cellist! Thanks to those Super Six for purchasing this fine instrument!
Those Goffriller cellos.. fantastic. To say nothing of Mason's playing! Thank you for this. Mr. Leonhardt's shop is beyond epic. When will he be knighted? Haha, I don't know what all goes into that. But his shop is beyond impressive what it has accomplished. I am not informed enough to know if there are other shops even close to that collection of history and craft in UK
Enjoyed. Thanks.
I just have a few questions:
1. Who set the price for this instrument and how?
2. How many people will hear the difference in sound between this cello and another cello that's, let's say 20k or 30k (which is still a lot of money)?
3. Is there really no cello maker in this world that can match or get close to the sound of this cello?
4. Is that him wheeling 3m cello down the street??
5. Is this world crazy or what?
wow
The cello sounds amazing. Just curious, what kind of strings do you use on the Goffriller?
Not a very good cellist. Highly overrated.
kinda agree, still better than me but there are cellists who are just as or more deserving of a quality instrument
I don't see you playing the instrument, so put a sock in it fool.
