Beautiful! Today Notre-Dame de Paris reopens and I’m celebrating listening to this lovely performance of Magister Perotinus Magnus, the first polyphonic composer of which we have a written body of compositions, the first whose style is unmistakably recognisable. The beginning of a lineage that will follow with names such as Machaut, Dufay, Josquin, Palestrina, Monteverdi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Schoenberg, Stockhausen...
This was a courageous undertaking for a college choir, and they performed beautifully! Great to see Perotin making it into the program. My only wish is that people wouldn't be so rushed, to take a more gentle and contemplative tempo. Of course, then it will take 15 minutes, but hey, when Perotin lived, people had time to pray...
Being in communion with the Pope is a pretty fundamental part of being Catholic. Sedevacantism is anything but traditional unless we’re talking about Protestant tradition

I need to learn me a thing as I would have assumed this is a contemporary piece referencing medieval music.
Medieval music is a lovely journey. One of my faves is the vocal notes from St.Cecilia convent. St.Cecilia, the patron saint of singers/music. 👍

And (no kidding) this was the starting point of my conversion to medieval musicology (the Alfred Deller version).
