The counselor's instructions were very clear for the client to understand. I like how the counselor was positive throughout the intake and thanked the client after she completed each part of the assessment. This was a good demonstration.
Instruments be administered consistently and uniformly. There’s a method to administering each session of an instrument. It was helpful to watch this be done and to see the use of precision and rigidity to ensure the consistent scoring. It was evident of the clear and precise in enunciating. This video was helpful to see how to administer this test. I liked how the counselor advised the client on what she was taking prior to her taking it and advised her of what it was measuring. I also thought it was polite that he thanked her after she answered the questions and remained kind throughout the assessment.
I think this video was very helpful in demonstrating how to administer the MoCA. Although hearing step by step instructions was also helpful, seeing it carried out made it much more clear.
Being an observer of this role play, I conclude that it is not as easy as I thought it would be to answer some of the questions of this assessment. This has made me more mindful of the difficulty the client may have.
After learning about the MoCA, it was nice to see it actually being administered. I wasn't quite sure how some parts were administered, so I appreciate seeing this demonstration.
+Michelle Robinson I enjoyed seeing the MoCA being administered. When we use this assessment in class, I will feel more comfortable having seen this video.
+Rachel Foster I agree. Seeing Dr. Grande administer the test makes me want to attempt to administer it again in class because now I feel more comfortable with it
This was a great role-play! It made me realize how important it is to be comfortable with the assessment you're administering. Dr. Grande administered it with ease and didn't fumble through the instructions. He also didn't show any reaction to her responses.
I like being able to see an assessment being administered. It allows me to become more familiar with the assessment before administering it to clients.
It was nice to see a role play of the MOCA. Even though we have done this in class it was great to be able to see this as a role play because it provided me new information about some of the instructions to the administration of this instrument.
It was really helpful to see the MoCA administered. We tried using it during class and it seemed difficult to administer, which is likely because we did not have the instruction portion of the instrument.
I enjoyed being able to watch this instrument be administered in a role play to get a better feel of how it would look, versus just following verbal instructions.
Although the client seemed to feel weird/uncomfortable at first administering the MoCA, Dr. Grande made a point to make the client feel comfortable and explaining the significance of the test.
I liked watching this role play. I feel more comfortable administering the Moca now. However, I do wonder what you would do as the counselor if the client began to struggle and asked for help.
+Rachel Foster That's a really good point. Of course, you can't give further instruction but I wonder how you answer that. If the client is distress by not getting help, would you continue the assessment? You really got me thinking!
I think it's one of those things that you repeat the instructions and just tell them to answer it the best they can. Their inability to follow the instructions may tell a lot about what you're testing them on!
Sometimes using instruments in a session feels like it is taking focus off of the client, even though it is for the client and still focused on the client. It was very helpful in walking that line.
For me, I learn administration (and scoring) the best by observation. We had done this in class so it wasn't new but it will be good to be able to go back and refer to this later.
This was a great video! It was very helpful to me to see this administered. The one thing I don't like with assessments in general it is not very friendly and doesn't allow for much alliance to be built between client and therapist. It would take me a while to adjust to that.
+Mandy Moore Agreed. I was unsure of how it would look to administer an assessment during a counseling session, also thinking it could be too formal and off-putting. However, Dr. Grande provided a great demonstration.
+Mandy Moore I agree that the instruments make the sessions too formal. But clients will get used to this and it's up to us to make the clients feel comfortable with taking tests.
Good stuff. This would be difficult for me to do well on, I think. But I guess it can give the administrator a picture of what the person struggles with. This seemed rushed, so I think I might be more sensitive to rushing with an actual client.
This assessment seemed fairly easy to administer, however, I am wondering if it would be more difficult to administer with a client who does have cognitive deficits and may become frustrated when struggling.
Keeping emotion out of assessment...this is definitely a growing edge for me! When the client has to tap during the A's, I would need to remind myself to not become affected if the client doesn't get it right., and just stay focused on the data.
This looks so easy in the video but it was difficult--even after reading the instructions--to do it straight from the instructions with no other exposure. It was most helpful to see the hand tapping part. I could not, in my mind, conceptualize how fast to go and how the client would follow the instructions. It's an odd measure to imagine.
+Alicia Zahn I agree, the hand tapping/attention segment was nice to see in action. You have to be able to focus on keeping a good, steady pace while recognizing whether or not they're tapping. Looking forward to practicing this!

Dr. Grande was very clear in administering this assessment. It was very interesting to see how this would work with a client.
This was a good video to watch on how to administer an assessment. It's always helpful to watch the administrator as guide and take helpful tips!
Yes, Dr. Grande always provides good resources for our projects.
Being an observer of this role play, I conclude that it is not as easy as I thought it would be to answer some of the questions of this assessment. This has made me more mindful of the difficulty the client may have.
I have never used or seen this assessment used before. This will be a very helpful tool as he administered the test clearly and effectively.
After learning about the MoCA, it was nice to see it actually being administered. I wasn't quite sure how some parts were administered, so I appreciate seeing this demonstration.
This was a great example of how to administer the MoCA assessment. Dr Grande maintained a consistent pace.

+Kimberly Kelly This videos help me become more comfortable with the assessments but I will definitely need more practice.
I liked this video because it gave a presentation of how this type of assessment should be administered to clients in session, very useful.
This video clearly showed how to administer this test. It is a great resource.
This was a great way to show how this assessment is administered to clients.
I like being able to see an assessment being administered. It allows me to become more familiar with the assessment before administering it to clients.
It was really cool to see the test and have it explained in the previous video, and then seeing it in action in this video.

Great example of the MoCA. It was helpful to observe the administration of this multi-assessment.
+Bethany Elstrom Agreed!
I was glad this instrument was on the playlist. It seemed like a good tool to use, but complicated with all of the directions.
Although the client seemed to feel weird/uncomfortable at first administering the MoCA, Dr. Grande made a point to make the client feel comfortable and explaining the significance of the test.
Enjoyed seeing the demonstration after learning about the instrument.
agreed
This was an excellent video it showed how to administer the screening instrument to assess memory and cognition.

Helpful assessment interview! good idea to watch before our role play assessment assignment!
I agree Eva. I wish I would've watched this prior to our role play assessment!
I agree with both of you. I wish I had watched before administering.
This was great to actually see it administered to a client.

This was a great resource for the intake interview. Watching it before the Project was helpful.
This video was very helpful, as it helped me how to use this instrument.

But.....why doesn't the test start with the basic info like the MSME, instead of finishing with it?

It was most helpful to see the hand tapping part. I could not, in my mind, conceptualize how fast to go and how the client would follow the instructions. It's an odd measure to imagine.
I agree with you concerning reading from the instructions still was difficult. However, I'm hopeful that practice will make perfect

I wonder if this assessment would be appropriate for all clients or just a certain kind of clients because it might be offensive to some clients.
Good demonstration of administering the MoCA assessment. Great video.
I did some of the test along with her, it was interesting to see the test administered.
+Regina Ames haha so funny I did too! Made it much more interesting. It was great to see it actually administered.
Who's here because Trump aced this?
