Ryron & Rener Gracie actually test for belts now. The black belt test is 2 days long, 5 hours each day.
I legit had a discussion with my head instructor last night to make sure I never get a promotion based on showing up. When I get my brown belt I want it to be because I feel, roll and act like a brown belt.
