Change is tough, I rarely recommend it and I don't consider myself 'older.' I had a highly customized Edge and could blow through and get ALL info in a few click of custom tabs I created, now I gotta squint, poke around and hope. I'm in the middle, but I see the ultimate benefits. My suggestion would be to start small, and maybe hide or remove extra noise and slowly build up - like learning to trade all over. I've gone through Telebroker! Phone, web, Edge, smart phones so now ToS. It seems like a Swiss Army Knife with too much for everyone, but the true pocket knife guy could just remove the corkscrew and other superfluous tools and use what's best for his style/focus. But I do sympathize with support having to deal with a ton of Edge fans being told to change. We're talking about people's money and how to manage/generate. I do like the extra help and support that Schwab is offering! Ironically, I (like many) had Schwab and Ameritrade at same time, and I've tried adopting ToS for years and just never saw it. So, I left that account with ETFs and funds and did very little with it except maybe some web based trades, and just used Edge at Schwab. THE ONLY RECOMMENDATION I'D HAVE for Schwab is to allow both simultaneously - like an 'IT Staging.' The you could try ToS but when you're stuck, jump into Edge to do it, instead they are forcing a hard switch, which is going to put the brakes on a LOT of trades for a bit.
CNBC is now gone. You can't even see at the top how the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 is doing for the day. It was always so nice to see the dividends on the main chart. The layout of the Option chain is less friendly. This creates a lot more work each day. It seems awful.
It's almost as if the people at Charles Schwab who made this decision to replease Street Smart Edge with this crap have no artistry or appreciation for simple layouts that SSE presented. It's almost as if they want to make it harder for the average person to make money by complicating things with a horrendous platform like thinkorswim
After 40 or so years as a very satisfied Schwab client, i am seriously thinking about taking my business elsewhere. By forcing a tool on us that is not any superior and not as easy to use than SSE, it seems like they don't care for their clients anymore.
One of the chart items I liked in SSE was that it showed the cost per share as a green line so it was easy to see where the break even point was. Is that available in TOS, and how do you set it?
Platform for options and future traders, nothing for stock traders. Terrible, shall go back to Merrill Schwab had the best trading platform SSE and now they have nothing, wish they keep SSE
Its funny how those of us who are in crypto think this chart is awesome because its what you actually get to trade with on any crypto exchange, you don't get to do baby steps in crypto , you either sink or swim. I love these charts, its all I've ever known to trade with, I was in crypto before I ever got into stocks, so this is a very welcome tool for an experienced chart trader like myself. These complaints just show me how much most folks don't do their own work and jus reply on brokers to do the work for them. Little advice, you'll make a lot more money if you stop being lazy and learn this stuff and handle your own money!

The ending of Street Smart Edge and subsequent roll out of this horrendous Thinkorswim is being force fed down customer's throats via Charles Schwab. Was anyone made aware of how user friendly SSE is in comparison to this unnecessarily tedious platform Thinkorswim? This wasn't a problem until I was transfered from TD to Schwab: I am surprised that TOS allows broken features to be available especially since this deals with money of their customers. I am referring to the double sell orders trap and now with the "MARK" function. I've read that they've known about the MARK issue for some time and they haven't taken that feature out of production. This gives customers the perception that TOS is prone to be "buggy"🙄
I've had the same problem with the "mark" triggering a rogue TRSTP for a few of my orders. Also double sales because the OCO going off the "mark" price triggers both simultaneously. When I called in, the broker I spoke to said he has been aware of the bug since he started working there YEARS ago. I hope Schwab will take the need to rectify this issue seriously. IBKR is looking better each day because of these unaddressed bugs.
Hello Mr. Cameron May: Thank you for this video introducing me to the thinkorswim desktop application. I followed along as you were demonstrating. I was doing *paper trading* not *live trading* as you were doing. I noted in the Monitor section that all my orders were in the *working orders* section and *none* were in the *filled orders* section. At 15:50 to the end, under the *position statement* section, I saw that the *quantity* for both the stock and call option was zero. When I right clicked the stock, I did not see *create closing order* or the analyze closing trade option. I saw the other items like reset all positions , adjust position..., etc. What do I do to *see the quantity ordered* and on right clicking, I see *create closing order* or the *analyze closing trade* in addition to the other items in the right click list? Thanks Suresh
Based on what you have said I would guess that you had an order that had not yet been filled and it would have been sitting in working orders, but not filled. thinkorswim will create a space for the order even though it's not yet filled. The quantity will show as zero as well as the P/L columns. Because the order isn't filled, you won't see an option to close in the list of the right click items. I hope this helps. ^CH

I'd wager to say the bells and whistles are intentional. SSE was not broken yet some folks at your instituion who perhaps lacked imagination to see the beauty of that platform decided more bells and whistles would fix things, ushering in thinkorswim. @@CharlesSchwab

Great platform especially for options. 8:54 into video you was kind of hairy. I figured it out though. All in all he explains everything very clear and straight forward.
Let's say I'm entering an order to buy a thinly traded stock, BEFORE I hit confirm, and the bid-ask has not changed for the past 20 minutes. Suddenly in the midst of my entering the order (again, BEFORE I confirm) the bid price increases. This has happened to me on SSE over and over and over again. The obvious implication is that someone is front-running my trade before I even place it. It's happened far too many times to be a coincidence. Question: can I expect this same action to happen on Think Or Swim?
Thank you for your question. Thinly traded stocks can frequently experience erratic movement so there is no telling when one will move or what is causing the change. To discuss your concern with a broker, please call 800-435-4000 or initiate a secure chat session on Schwab.com, available 24/7! ^BC

I LEFT TD Ameriturd years ago to get away from TOS. Its a massive pile of code that has been setup to do everything but be user friendly. This does this here but not there. To many modules setup by to many code writers with no common rules for operation. SSE worked for years for me. First day I tried the new TOS it went down and Tech support didn't have clue..
This dose not look user friendly compared to how straight forward SSE works.
It does have a lot of bells and whistles but really it isn't too bad once you have a bit more exposure. Check into it a bit more. ^BC
I'd wager to say the bells and whistles are intentional. SSE was not broken yet some folks at your instituion who perhaps lacked imagination to see the beauty of that platform decided more bells and whistles would fix things, ushering in thinkorswim. @@CharlesSchwab
Give the web app or mobile app a try. They’re a bit more streamlined than the desktop app. The desktop app is designed to be extremely deep for a free trading platform
End of the road boys. Fun whilst it lasted...

Can I use this platform as a South African and use the same broker
Yes, it is possible to fund an international account and gain access to the platform. The Global Services Group can help you, here is their number: 415-667-8400. ^MF
Thank you
Hello I am new to this platform and I do like what i see ,, but my question is where do I find how much I made or loss on a option on this platform , I like to be able to look in my history and find out Thanks
On the Account Statement on the Monitor tab you can look up any transaction either by date, ticker symbol or both. Change the default days to more than one to go back in time. ^CH
Thank god for street smart edge. I don't like this.
ummmm...that's the concern
great tutorial video!
Very good video, detailed. appreciated
Tutorial en español o hay una herramienta para traducir.

I hope that we will be able to open a trading account and be able to use this wonderful platform.. We do not know why some countries in the world are prevented from registering with Ameritrade, such as countries in the Middle East.

No Schwab clients opinion taken in account, SSE is hundred times better.
Great vid, but WOW, I guess you guys had to wait 6 months to release this golden nugget.
Is this platform available in Canada?
You can download the platform anywhere in the world, but if you are specifically a Canadian citizen, the account will have to be an IRA, otherwise you would not be able to do so. ^MF
I have problem in my thinkorswim account my tutor Frez USD I can't wedrah the money. Can someone help me 3:44 😢

how do I actually access the thinkorswim website? what is the url?
Here is the url for thinkorswim download.
www.schwab.com/trading/thinkorswim
If you are looking for the web verision you can find it here. ^BC

The platform is an upgrade from SSE, too bad that Schwab are way too lazy or they just don't care about the thousands of customers asking to improve the Hot Keys
why cant they make this like tradingview, so much headach. like so old school
Great to see how to use TOS in 2012
Me too, I am planning to move to TradingStation or Webull, bye Charles.
A suggestion please! Could the light background be used when doing these tutorials? It is so dark and for some of us, perhaps, unable to follow without starting and stopping and trying to find the way in the dark! Thank you!
P.S. What I keep calling the LADDER is actually called ACTIVE TRADER on TOS.
Any chance for paper account? Without real account?
Thank you for reaching out! I am happy to direct you to our service teams for assistance. You can reach a specialist directly by phone using 800-435-4000.
Yes, at the login screen.
Great platform especially for options. 8:54 into video you was kind of hairy. I figured it out though. All in all he explains everything very clear and straight forward.
i have no tabs ????
SSE is way better than TOS.
Ooof looks horrendous
Exactly. Almost by design. I hope another instituion adopts SSE so I can move there
Such a massive disappointment. I hate that Schwab has forced this on us ffs.
I'm depressed they bought my TD ameritrade :( It's a loss on both sides
I’m disappointed they’re getting rid of streetsmart edge
@@Icy1256why ?
Forced what on you? You don’t have to use this if you don’t want to?
^BC
If you can learn this you qualify for flying a jumbo jet if the pilot is incapacitated. Instead of TOS they should rename it DFB ---- Doomsday For Boomers.
Hey opentrunk. We understand there is a lot to learning the thinkorswim platform. The desktop version is the most robust and some might opt for thinkorswim web which has an easier interface. You can find it at: trade.thinkorswim.com/. Also we have weekly classes for the desktop version called Getting Started With thinkorswim. It is taught on Mondays at 3 pm ET. Here is a playlist of the previous classes: tinyurl.com/3eax2ftf ^CH
probably the most important how to buy ans sale stock, now its complete different that screen is not in my tos downloaded on august 2024, he also didn't mention how he got to that page, the trade button didn't take me there, this is where i stop and look somewhere else how to learn tos
Try the Getting Started with thinkorswim playlist from Schwab Coaching. ua-cam.com/play/PL8a6s5nq1lPTMHmq7rNVIQE9mqyhsxD5I.html&si=7nVqjoGuwpSzP3QL ^BW
Big news! SSE is too old and diffcult to use for me.
Sse has way better level 2 and time and sales.. not on the same level at all
Yes
ThinkorSwim is garbage. Bring back StreetSmart Edge, simple trade tickets and charts.
Schwab, why do allow your excellent SSE platform to get replaced by this absolute unintuitive garbage lacking many basic features. IB looks like a far easier platform to use. Shame on you for now listening to your customers.
We understand there can be challenges with new platforms, but we encourage you to give thinkorswim a chance. ^MF
Garbage. If SSE is gone, I'm gone
Thank you. ^CH
Day 1: It's already broken !!! My friend can log into their account, but....she has to reconfigure everything, every time. That takes a long time. What a f'n joke.
